Chapter 5 Have We Met

The next morning on her way to work she stopped by the coffee shoppe again to get a coffee to go and a few extras for her team in the office. She was waited on by a newbie who did not know the story behind her or Carson that comes in. She was warned about how much of a player he is but that is all that was said about him.

Rebekka placed her orders and gave her name to the barista not paying any attention who was standing behind her at the time. When she stepped aside to wait for her drinks to be made she heard a familiar sounding voice. She took a glance to her right and saw the man who was ordering a few coffees as well.

It was none other than Carson, the one person who would always come in every day and patronize her a few years ago and she completely ignored. It seems that he has grown up a little more now that she has been away.

Carson looks around at the baristas' seeing if he can spot his favorite girl whom he'd come to love and wanted to take out. He had missed her but had given up on her. It does not mean that he had not stopped thinking about her those few days she was there working.

Rebekka looked at him once again then looked away quickly before she got caught looking at his features. Her name was called and she walked up to the bar to retrieve her drinks, turned and started to walk out of the shoppe.

"Excuse me miss, but do I know you?"

"Who? Are you taking to me?"

"Yes, you just look like someone I once knew that worked here. Her name was Rebekka too."

"Oh, well I hope you find your missing person."

With that she walked out with the biggest smirk on her face she could not help but giggle when she got into her car to head to her office. When she got to the office some of her team members had information about the case they were working on.

"Here's some caffeine for all of you, pick your poison and let's get the meeting started."

"Our victims name is Valerie Quinn and she was out with her friends at a night club called Hot Cube. She met a man there but did not get his name. Her friends said he kept following her around and buying her drinks all night but she would refuse to drink any of them."



"So am I hearing you correctly? She was not into drinking?"

"Correct, she drank mostly water all night although she did have a couple Cosmos with her girlfriend earlier in the evening."

"Good for her, at least she had sense not to take a drink from him. What else do you have for me?"



"She called an Uber for her and her friend but the man hitched a ride with them and told the driver that they were uncomfortable with him sharing their ride. The driver agreed and told the man to get out and that he was not allowed to take his ride and needed to call for another one. He also reported it to Uber so that they know and the perp is in their data base."

"Great, where did he take the girls?"


"To their apartment, he said he dropped them off and stuck around to make sure they got in ok then took off. He also stated that he would want someone to do the same for his daughter to make sure she was safe inside."

"Huh, something is not adding up here. If he dropped the girls off, then how did she get raped and end up in the hospital?"

"Apparently her and her friend got into a fight, according to the friend, and she ended up leaving. She said that Valerie wanted to take a walk to cool off and clear her mind and ended up getting more than she bargained for."

"Figure out what route she took and look for cameras and obtain those so that we can have something more solid. Good job guys, keep at it, try talking with her get her to tell you what route she took and go from there."

She was pleased with her team and how they were working hard on solving their first case together. One of her team members asked for the victim to come into the office to give them a statement but she was reluctant since she had given the police a statement already.

"Gail come to my office please."

"What is it boss?"

"Can you get the picture from the Uber driver? I want to see who this guy is. If he does not have it get a hold of Uber they will have a copy of it. We need to find him and question him."

"Chris is actually on that and I am going over to talk to the victim again to see if there is anything she can actually remember from that night."

She just sat there admiring how awesome her team is and how they are always one step ahead of her. She did not have to do much but wait for their reports to come in on meeting days.

It came to the day where they were to be sixty percent done with the case. She was sure they were at least eighty percent done at how fast they were going with this case. Rebekka also knew that not all cases would go as smoothly as this one has so far.

"All right Chris, do you have a video of the perp from Uber or the driver even both would be fantastic."



"No, I do not have neither, I am actually having trouble getting Ubers IT to help me out so I need to get a warrant if possible? The driver is on vacation and not answering his phone of course."

"Okay that is not a problem I will call the judge to get a warrant signed, but keep trying and warn them you are coming with a warrant for those photos from that night. I want inside and outside views from the cameral."

When Rebekka arrived to work she walked into her office and seen the manila envelope sitting on her seat. She picked it up and opened it looking at the paper it was the warrant that she had requested so Chris could the copies of the videos he needed.

She walked out of her office and went to his desk as he was on the phone with someone but just stood there and eavesdropped.

"I told you to erase that video, boss is going to get the warrant and I want it erased now."

"I said to erase it and if you don't you will pay for this and I mean it."

She heard all she needed and slowly walked away quietly back to her office. She closed the door and sat down and called Uber herself and explained the situation to them. They were not willing to comply but she faxed over the warrant and told them to look in their inbox and get the videos to her ASAP.

Within minutes she had the entire video that she wanted and looked at them from beginning to end and seen that none other then one of her own members was the rapist.

"Hey it's me can you come in my office please I need to go over something with you."

Her supervisor came in; "What ya got Rebekka?"



"You know that case we have about the girl that was raped?"



"Yeah, you guys are doing a great job at getting it solved."



"It's done, case closed."

"Just like that?"



"I want Chris arrested now, this is the reason why, watch the video."

Her super watched the video and could not believe it that it had been one of their very own who had done the rape. Rebekka also told her super what she heard from Chris being on the phone with someone making him erase the videos.

"Gail can you come in my office please?"


"Gail were you able to find any surveillance around the victims home and where she was raped?"

"Yes, I just emailed it to you and you are not going to like it."

"I already know who it is and he will be arrested shortly."

"I will leave you two at it then and if you need anything else let me know."

"Good job Gail, but please keep this between us for now."



"Thank you and I will do that until further notice."

They review the other video and it shows Chris rapping Valerie Quinn. She called for a police officer to come and pick up the person they caught as they were going to read him his rights. She also let the chief of police know what was going down and he came by as well.

Rebekka and her boss walked over to Chris's desk and listen in on one of his phone conversations. They were discussed by what they had heard and then...

"Chris stand up and turn around with your hands behind your back. You have the right to remain quiet, you have the right to an attorney..."

Chris knew what he was being arrested for he just thought he would not get caught specially by his own boss. He had a stone face and did not look at any of his co-workers nor did he apologize to any of them when he was taken away by the police.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your hard work on this case and giving me your one hundred percent. The case is now closed, take a couple hours and go have breakfast or lunch on me then return and we should catch a new case."

With that she walked away and filed the paper work she needed to do and sent it to the appropriate parties and stamped case closed to have filed away.
