Chapter 5 The wrong turn

Bola Ladipoe had been crushing on the School's senior prefect who was her brothers classmate and captain of the basketball team Emmanuel ever since... Well ever since he was given the position, before then he used to be a bully and was so annoying, but when he became the senior prefect he became a bit more mature and had a bit of self respect, or so she thought, the only other person who knew about her crush on Emmanuel was Lizy her best friend, who also happened to be her classmate and next door neighbor.

Apart from his new character Bola had always liked his muscles and cute face and the way he smiled, the same way he was smiling now as she watched him celebrate her brother's goal, she just sat admist the celebration staring at Emmanuel, she wished she could just go to him as if nothing else mattered and just hug him tightly until everyone left the pitch, but of cos that would be weird, becaus they haven't even had any real conversation since she came into the school, all their discussions where just in her imagination, but she had her plans she was going to make him notice her at least before he leaves the school.

The final penalty goal at the basketball game made Buju more famous, not just in Dominos international school but also in the whole of the region, his team mates lifted him up his feet with joy as they celebrated their hard earned victory, off the pitch they where planning a secret after party which of cos the teachers where not aware of not even the basketball coach. "Where's the after party gonna be captain?", Emeka one of the team mates asked."at Veronica's bar beside Ikoyi main hall, we have to make it hot", Emmanuel replied. "Yo guys you have to make me a special treat", Buju chipped in. The whole team burst into laughter, "don't worry I will arrange one fine barny for you ". Another team mate told him. "Abeg getout, do you want his girlfriend to kill him?, You always talk off point", emeka breathed in. "Nene will just hang my neck on one of those trees at the School's back yard", Buju concluded, "but don't worry guys, when we get there I will tell you boys what I want", he said with a note of finality. The boys shook hands and went to their friends to celebrate and tell them about the party.

After the match all the students went back to their various houses, Buju usually went together with his sister and her best friend Lizzy. Lizzy's parents Mr and Mrs Jonah where from warri in Delta State , they had met and got married in Lagos, and had also been friends with The Ladipoe's, Hence Lizzy has been Buju and Bola's childhood friend. Chima on the other hand usually went home together with Daniel- The principal's (Mr kanayor's) son, since they lived a stone throw away from each other. Even though Mr Kanayor's had a nice Car, Daniel still prefered to walk home with Chima... "It's just a little exercise dad!". he always said.. " you shouldn't always be as stubborn as your mother you know?" Mr kanayor always replied, but Daniel still trekked home anyway. Today they saw something very interesting as they walked homewards, They decided to take a short cut and entered into a wrong place ... Or so they thought, the road was filled with fierce looking guys, popularly known as agberos... And they all seemed to be staring at them, Daniel secretly brought out his phone to put it on silent, but missed his pocket when he tried to put it back and the phone fell on the floor unknown to them, and they continued in going.

As they walked through the lonely street with eyes boring into their very souls through their body Chima wanted to turn back but Daniel told him to keep his head straight so that the agberos would not suspect their fear, "someone is following us". Chima gasped in fear. "Are you sure about this?" . Daniel asked, "pretty much, I'm sure he's the one who saw us first when we too the lonely road". Chima answered. They tried to keep their head straight and continue working but the man coming behind them seemed to walk faster as if trying to meet up with them. "Run!!", Daniel shouted and the two boys ran like they where going to be killed, "Heiss wait there!!" The man shouted angrily behind them while chasing them. As the boys ran they came to a fenced wall which seemed like a dead end, "can you jump a fence?". Daniel asked. "No I haven't tried it before and I'm not ready to die now" chima replied. The principal had forced Daniel to attend some karate training classes in the past which he found boring, but now he thought it might come in handy. "Hmmph, I can take him", Daniel sighed. "What? Are you crazy this guy is an Agbero he might even kill you!!". Chima said genuinely scared. "Don't worry he is alone and I don't see any one around I can take him", Daniel repeated with a sense of finality. As the man caught up with them Daniel rushed towards him and gave him two sharp punches on the face and with one sliding effort threw the guy on the floor, then he rushed to land more punched on the man's face when he shouted "wait wait,, I Wan give you your phone, E fall for ground for first turn". Daniel looked confused and so did Chima, until the guy brought out Daniel's phone and gave it to him, they had to apologise to the man before he left...
