Chapter 4 The basketball game

It was Friday and time for the basket ball friendly match between "the big boys" of Dominos international School and That of Tornado High school, tho they where not playing for money or any medal, they where fighting for prestige and honor, the two schools had been at loggerheads with each other for years now, they had been claiming to be the school with the best basketball players in the state and Nation at large.

They had both won each other 5 times in all the competitions where they had met and this friendly match was going to separate the draw, so both teams took in seriously, The Tornadoes wan the last match which was an inter school final, but the Dominos had held a grudge saying that they won due to home advantage, as the match was played in their school , so they requested a friendly match to square the tiles, hence this big match.

The match was scheduled for 2pm but by 12noon the basket ball court was already filled to the brim with students from both schools cheering and singing their schools' anthem. Buju's best friends Chima and Rachael where already there, chima was sitter in the crowd with Nene and others while Rachael was head of the cheer leading team. Also among the students was Buju's "School Rival" Adeoye. Adeoye was the captain of the Dominos football team and had always been at loggerheads with buju since he got into the school 3 yrs ago. It was more like he came to watch buju loose rather see the Dominos basketball team win their Game, so that he would laugh at him after the match and remind him how pathetic he was and how he could not compete with him in any way, talk more of sports.

It was now time for the game and the Tornadoes basketball team finally arrived in Dominos high school with their school's colour of blue on blue with white stripes at the side. The Tornadoes tho 10 mins late was welcomed into the pitch with loud cheers and happy screams yfrom their fans, it was such a sight to behold as the team walked gingerly into the basketball court, their fans cheering while the cheer leaders danced vigorously immediately the away team settled in the pitch taking their wings the host team "the big boys of Dominos international School" came in with their school's colour of white on white with black socks admist cheers from their fans too, they took their own position and "peeeep" sounded the referee's whistle and the match began.

The match started without Buju in the game but he was on the bench, much to the disappointment of his friends because they knew he was a good player. The first 15munites went on with The Tornadoes taking the lead, "yessssss!!" Adeoye shouted as he saw the desperation in Buju's face asking the coach if he could go in, the other fans turned to him in dismay.. "ahh why are you happy when we are loosing nau?", One of the dance asked Adeoye, "who told you I'm happy, I just wanted to ginger the crowd", he replied trying not to piss them off further. Buju later came into the game when the score line was leveled and they played on until something happened at the last minute of the game..

Towards the end of the game with about a few seconds to spare Buju was fowled at the penalty spot and the score was 100:101 with the away team leading with one point. "Cheei it wasn't a fowl na", Adeoye shouted from the fan sit, his statement only attracted laughter from the other fans who where around him, so he stood up and angrily left the pitch "Nothing more to watch here he said as he made his way out of the basketball court. Buju was to play the penalty and if he scored it meant his team had won and if not, it meant they lost.

Tension was high as Buju took the spot to play the penalty, he sighed on easily as all eyes where on him, once he played the penalty the refree would end the game, "you can do this Buju" the coach shouted from his sit. Buju took some step backwards and threw the ball.....
