Chapter 2 Mistakes Are Truly Deadly

Chantelle strolled all throughout the cityscape on alert. Her team composed of agents was losing trust in her. They were having a suspicion that she was a Powerful too. But, then again, having so much fighting experience for just a twenty-one-year-old and white hair didn't help, did it? She had to pull off one mission without any mystifying deaths from her fellow agents, or it could very well be her time to be chased. Chantelle moved about the town effortlessly and on intuition. For her, she didn't like their plan, but someone in such a insubstantial position as hers couldn't protest.

Whatever she had to do went in opposition to every fiber of her being, and was truly going to ruin her day. She was stripped of her fatigues, gun, sword, and only had on a once appealing but now ragged back dress and no shoes at all with only a dagger to somehow protect her. Truly, this was the part that she seriously hated the most. Her sword was the sole thing that kept her of the agents' radars that could track the Power. The dress though come from a captive that was nearby Chantelle's since, though a bit taller. The white-haired lady stood at even six food and normally had to have her clothes tailored to fit.

Chantelle saw a likely target and instantly moved in to show her loyalty to the government. She was ordered to play the damsel in distress to tempt the Powerful in. Then, her team would immediately attack. Chantelle stumbled through the street yelling for help and ran up to the couple that was stalled in the mid of the street. She was out of breath. She holds on tightly to the male, interrupting their conversation. "Agents...they...they..." She continued to huff and gust and tried to get her breath.

Kyron raised an eyebrow. "Agents? What do you mean? Why should we trust you?"

Beatriz gave Chantelle an unusual look. "Really now? What are agents? What do you mean by that?" she asked innocently. The girl had lived in the town her entire life, but she did not even know what the ones that chased her were called.

Chantelle for the first time in her professional life, had hit an obstruction. 'Too much for stirring mass panic...' she thought to herself. "Well...they...they are agents," she rather lamely said. She bit her lip and made sure that her associates in the shadows couldn't see her movements. A little ball of flame appeared in the palm of her hand and instantly went out. She looked at the man who was obviously less naïve. "Does that answer your question now?"

Kyron made a face at Chantelle, "What about them?"

"I've never heard of them." Beatriz smiled pleasantly. For some strange reason she could not name, she didn't like how this was going.

Chantelle didn't know how the 'impressive' plan was going south. There were no plan B or back-up plans at her briefing. "They are chasing after me... I think I out distanced them..."

Beatriz looked at Chantelle and begun to slowly move back, going over all the get away plans she knew. 'Why did I even stop at the first place? For all I know they are both chasing after me!' She thought. Beatriz kept moving back, reprimanding herself and wishing she had Felton or even that weird girl with her.

Kyron narrowed his eyes staring fiercely at Chantelle. He even begun to back up as well. "And how could we make sure that you are not one of them?" he asked. He was quite tempted to use his powers right then and there against her.

Chantelle held back a mocking snort. "I am completely unarmed, wearing a ragged dress as you can see, Powerful, and I am way too young for my age to have a military training of an agent." She knew that she was being so much precise and informative, but she was formulating her plan on the spot. Screw the others. Maybe her team could end up dead by the end of the night without her being hold responsible after all.

Beatriz's thoughts were triggering more rapid than ever. 'What is the best possible way to fly out of here?' She began to search for a building that was within reach. Perhaps if she could reach one without dying, she can take off. 'What about this guy? Am I going to leave him?' Beatriz knew she couldn't do that, but she was not so sure how much weight she could carry.

"You are being extremely bold about this." Kyron narrowed his look; he clenched his left fist, glancing over at Beatriz. 'I'm pretty much sure I can get the both of us out of here, if I do blow her away.' He thought to himself. Beatriz gazed back at him. Her wings came out and flexed, but not enough to be noticed. She only wished and hoped that Kyron noticed.

Chantelle gave Kyron her bold smile and glimpsed over her shoulder apprehensively. This plan could go terribly wrong if she didn't pull it off just right. She lifted up her hands in the air. "All right, you captured me. There are five others behind me. Two behind the building on the left, two behind the one on the right, sniper of the roof. I concede to your valiant deductive reasoning." Her voice carried a slight ridicule quality, but she didn't sound overly rude. She only brought her hands down long enough for her knife to be thrown at his feet.

Beatriz's mouth fell open. Her mind went into a hyper drive stage. Kyron immediately noticed Beatriz's nervous flick of the wings, but he found Chantelle's confession much pressing. 'Shit.' He thought and glanced over to Chantelle a moment and then to Beatriz. Tenderly pushing Beatriz out of harm's way, he raised his left hand, extended his palm, and a gush of wind forced the sniper out of his perch, glanced over to Chantelle.

"I am not so sure as to why I'm helping you, but you'd better quickly move out of the way while you still get the chance!" He stepped beside her; his pale icy-blue eyes became even paler, his left hand begun to ice over as he ready to use one of his powers. Chantelle flashed him a grin and hit the deck. She would just have to wish that she still had enough time to plan her homecoming this time.

Beatriz took time to wait and thought to herself, 'Okay, once he's done, grab them both and run fast. Find an absolutely high building and jump. No more explanations. No time for that.' It was not a set in a concrete plan, and it was not a good one, but it was the best she had thought for.

Kyron sighed, spotting Chantelle's grin, he pointed upon the other hidden agents and let loose a wave of ice upon the various hidden agents. Taking them out one by one, he at last took down the last of them. "There they are!" he heard a shout. Looks like more agents were on their way.

Grasping Chantelle's arm, he pulled her to her feet. "Come on now!" he shouted, looking to Beatriz, wishing and hoping that she'd get the gist to help them escape. Chantelle ran obligingly stopping only just to pick up her sack of forsaken clothes and weapons. She quickly strapped on her katana before anything else. Technically she was not intended to get them back until after the mission, but no one would know about it. 'Serve the others right for not having any back-up plan. Mistakes are truly deadly...'
