Mr Christopher Houston introduced me to the kids and the expressions on their faces wasn't encouraging at first, I understood I was new there and it would take a while for the student to accept me but I was willing to wait, I needed this job so badly and won't even try anything stupid to jeopardize this opportunity that has been given to me on a platter of gold.
After Mr Christopher left, I was left alone with the kids.
"Hello everyone." I wasn't sure if I was being right as a teacher, I got no response from them but smiled to conceal the disappointment that set in.
"I'm teacher Alyssa and I'm here to teach you all."
They all folded their arms against their chests and stared angrily at me.
"Are you trying to take our teacher's place?" A girl sitting opposite the twins asked me with a scowl on her face. "Miss Hazel is the only one we want." She said and they all agreed with her. "Who are you!" She yelled at me.
"I'm not trying to take your teacher's place dear, I'm just here to help her." I tried to explain but the disapproving look they gave me made my shoulders sagged.
I didn't know of a better way to tell them to accept me. "Can you all bring out your notes and let's continue from where your teacher stopped?" I asked nicely but none of them listened to me.
I got frustrated and rubbed my temples in worry, how was I going to teach a class of students who detested me? I wrote on the board and turned back to look at the class, their books were all on their respective desks and I almost smiled, I nodded my head and was thankful for their cooperation.
I studied the topic for a few second and started teaching them.
After I closed from school, I walked back to the house but changed my mind as I walked slowly. I was so tired and needed to study for the upcoming chemistry test I had the next day, I dropped at Deedee's house.
Luckily for me, she was alone when I barged into her apartment.
Deedee's parents were divorced, her dad got married to another woman years later and her mom remained single but she was never around. She was always all about her business.
Deedee was the only one who lived in that big house most of the time and she always begged for my visit.
"He yo!" I sat on the couch.
"When did you come in?" She wasn't surprised to see me though.
"Few minutes ago." I answered her.
"How was work today, hope the kids didn't stress you?" She asked and I sighed.
"Of course, they did stress me but I just have to keep pretending I don't see the nasty things they did." Deedee laughed and teased me by calling me a teacher but I ignored her. "I thought your boyfriend would be here, thank heavens he's not around." I said teasingly and she smiled.
"Yes!" She snapped her fingers like she just remembered something. "Why were you sad the last time you were here, I just remembered you haven't told me about it till now." I knew Deedee too well to ever think she'd forget something like that, I wondered why she hadn't brought up the discussion since that time. Maybe she was giving me time to get myself together because she knew I will always be back to her. "What happened?" She asked again.
"Damian is cheating on me." I said and she gasped.
"Are you joking?" She asked incredibly, I understood it was hard to believe because everyone believed he loved me so much and would do anything for me.
Same thing I thought till I caught him cheating, after that day I left his house. He had tried to call me but I didn't pick his calls, he came over to the house when I wasn't around and I refused to even see him the times I was at home.
"No, Dee." I said, I caught him cheating.
"Oh my God! Did you confront him?" Deedee asked.
"I didn't want to ruin the moment, they were enjoying themselves." My mind went back to the moaning and I shut my eyes in disgust.
"Why would he do such thing to you? You're too kind to be cheated on." Deedee felt bad on my behalf and that was why she was my best friend, she was the realest I've seen and known, she stood all through the times I mourned my parents, she even made her mom do things for Callie and I.
"I don't know too, I think he needs to get sex and I wasn't giving him that." I shrugged my shoulders. The day I caught Damian cheating on me, I got really mad at him and vowed never to call him again but as time went by, I didn't blame him so much. He was a man after all, and needed some things which I wasn't giving him. Things weren't really working out between Damian and I, the only reason I agreed to date him was because I wanted to feel among, I've never had a boyfriend in all my twenty two years on earth and trying one turned into a disaster.
I gave up on guys, I wasn't really interested in them until Damian showed up and fed me with lies. To hell with him.
I hissed out loudly and Deedee gawked at me, she understood I was over thinking things again.
She shook her head and threw the sofa pillow at me.
"You'll get a new one soon okay? You're a pretty girl." She said and I smiled.
"I don't want none." I shook my head.
"Soon, a rich one, cute even cuter than Damian!" She tickled my sides and I laughed, she did that again and tears flowed down my cheeks, I was happy and sad but right then, I wanted the happiness to last.
I love Deedee a lot and won't ever think of replacing her, she had a way of getting me into my best mood.
"Are you prepared for the test?" I asked Deedee, she scrunched up her nose and stared away from me.
"Up! Get up. I got some new undies I have to shoe you." She dragged me all the way to her room to show me her new collection of undies.
