Chapter 4 Disappointment

Jason's POV

I woke up with a huge hangover. My friends and I partied till early this morning. I would have still been sleeping if not for the incessant ringing of my phone. "Hello", I answered the call without looking at the caller ID. "Hi dear, how are you doing", my mum said in a chirpy tone. "I am fine mum, sorry I didn't call you back yesterday, I was very busy". "Yah, you were busy partying", she replied in a semi-pissed off tone. She was correct partially, after I promised to call her, I went out with the boys to get a drink. I didn't know we would end up at a party or that i would come back home wasted. "Son please come back home, I know you are still hurting but you need to move on and get back on track with your life". Everytime my mum calls me, she always plead with me to come back home. Though lately I have been thinking of returning home. That bitch isn't worth my suffering. I promised mum that I would return home in a week or two and she was happy. I miss her just as she misses me. She and my younger sister Emma are all I have in this world. Our dad abandoned us shortly after Emma was born and we haven't heard from him since then. After mum ended the call, I went to take some painkillers to quench the headache. This has almost been a routine since I got here. Party hard, wake up with a hangover the next day, hang out with the guys during the day and just stay at home to check up on my business in London. I left london after my failed marriage to that bitch. Don't think I am too harsh for calling her a bitch, because she deserves worse names than that.

We met at one of the numerous business events. She was charming and sweet. We exchanged contacts and kept communicating regularly. After fews weeks, I officially asked her to be my girlfriend. It was a blissful experience. I was very happy with our relationship. She was so sweet and committed or so I thought. We were so in love, went on so many dates, did little romantic tours. I saw forever with her so it was not so surprising when I asked her to marry after 6 months of dating.

Flashback

"Bro, are you really sure you wanna marry this girl", Emma asked me when I told her that I proposed and Laura said yes. "Of course, I love her with all my heart and I don't see myself being with anyone else but her", I replied confidently. "I don't know bro, something just feels off about her". "Little Emma, you are just jealous that there is someone else who has my attention", I replied cheekily. "Come on Jason, you know that's not true. I really don't trust that girl but if being with her is what makes you happy, then you have my support", she said before exiting the room. Emma isn't the only one having doubts about my decision, even my mum was not fully in support of it. But as time went on everyone was helping me prepare for my wedding. I gave Laura more than enough to get whatever she wants for the wedding. She had a huge list of things she wanted to get but I didn't mind the cost, I just wanted her to be very happy. My mum kept complaining that she was spending money lavishly but I convinced them that it's her big day and she deserves all the luxurious things that she wants. On the day of my wedding, I was a bit nervous because this was a new journey for me, my best friend Lance who is also my best man helped calm my nerves by encouraging. He got married a month ago and he believes he could give me fatherly advice since he took the marital steps before me. My other best friend Sammy also ditched out his own. My mum came into the room to see me. She had tears in her eyes. "Mum, what's wrong". "Nothing is wrong my dear, I just feel so happy that my baby boy is taking the bold step of settling down", she said with a tiny smile. I hugged her and told her that I will still be her baby no matter what happens. She wished me luck and left to put some finishing touch in her dressing.

I and my friends went to the church. And I was ushered in while awaiting the arrival of my beautiful bride. My mum and my sister were sitting pretty up front. I smiled at them which they returned too. I could see Laura's friends who happens to be her bridesmaids but Laura had still not arrived. An hour later, Laura was still not here and I was getting worried that something might have happened to her. Lance told me to calm down that maybe she was stuck in traffic. Another hour passed with no sign of her. Now my worry was in full force. Our guest had started whispering but they were the least of my worries. I went to Emma and ask her to give me my phone while I stepped out to call Laura. I noticed I had a message from a strange number, I didn't bother to read it and tried calling Laura, her number wasn't connecting. I decided to check the message maybe she tried contacting me with another number. "Oh my God, no no no, this can't be happening to me", I screamed at the top of my voice. Lance, Sammy, my mum and Emma all rushed to my side. I told them the content of the message. Laura was a lying bitch. She had been using me all this while. She never loved me. It was all fake. She told me she was in love with someone else and she used my own money to plan her wedding with her lover. I couldn't believe that the lovely girl I knew could do such a thing. I guess love really makes you blind. I was so frustrated and couldn't concentrate on anything including work. I decided to leave London for a while just to clear my head.
