Chapter 8 That Old Man Is My Grandfather

"It's so yummy! Would you like some too?" After eating alone for a while, Kara suddenly remembered that Ryker had been watching her all this time without having a taste himself. So she kindly offered him a bite.

As Ryker had never been a big fan of desserts and hated this kind of sweet and sticky food, he refused immediately, "It's fine. As long as you enjoy it..."

However, before he could even finish his sentence, Kara surprised him by stuffing a piece of cake into his mouth. The boy was utterly stunned. The soft pastry melted on his tongue, making him wonder whether he should swallow it or spit it out.

Oblivious to his discomfort, Kara looked at him expectantly and asked with a smile, "Why don't you swallow it? It's really yummy!"

Seeing that she was looking forward to his reaction, Ryker didn't want to disappoint her. After hesitating for a moment, he made an effort to chew that thing he hated and finally swallowed it. As the flavor of cream and strawberry spread in his mouth, he felt strange. Surprisingly, it didn't taste as awful as he remembered.

"So, how do you like it?" With her big black eyes staring straight at him, Kara asked curiously.

Meeting her gaze, he nodded and smiled fondly. "You're right. It's delicious."

Kara was delighted to know he liked her favorite food too. As a strong sense of pride rose in her chest, she decided she should give him another bite.

Quickly, she took the fork and scooped up some more cake from the plate. The next moment, she raised her little hand towards Ryker's mouth and said in a sweet and soft voice, "Have another piece then."

With a smile, he nodded and lowered his head to take a bite of it. Then he picked the fork from her hand and dug out another small piece of cake before bringing it to her mouth. His eyes sparkled with joy as he told her, "Here's one bite for you. In fact, the cake is yours. Don't ask me to finish it for you."

Kara burst into laughter. Indeed, the whole plate was for her. She happily grabbed his wrist between her two little chubby hands and stretched out her head, taking a big bite from the cake. While chewing, she mumbled excitedly, "Delicious! This is the best cake I've ever had!"

"I am glad that you like it, Kara."

The corners of Ryker's mouth lifted into a beautiful smile. How could it not be delicious? All the pastry chefs who worked for his grandfather were highly paid professionals hired from abroad. While carefully feeding the little girl, Ryker didn't slow down his movements. As soon as she swallowed a piece of cake, he would serve another piece to her right away. He was quite attentive as he served her.

At this moment, the old master approached the two of them and was quite shocked by the scene. Was this really Ryker? It never occurred to him that one day he would see his usually indifferent grandson feeding a child with a smile on his face. The old man rubbed his eyes. It must be a miracle!

"Ahem, ahem..." The old master pretended to cough a few times in order to attract the children's attention. As they were so entertained with themselves, they had completely disregarded the old man's presence. If he hadn't broken the silence somehow, he would have remained standing there, ignored.

As expected, the kids turned to look at the old master. Kara raised her eyebrows and asked, "Is this your grandpa?"

Ryker calmly looked away and replied with indifference, "Yes, that old man is my grandfather."

At the sound of the young boy's impolite words, the old master's face darkened. Enraged, he walked to Ryker with his crutch and pointed a trembling finger at him as he shouted, "Who are you calling an old man? I'm your grandfather!"

However, Ryker didn't take the man seriously at all. Putting the empty plate back on the tea table, he changed Kara's position on his lap so that she was facing him. Then he gently wiped the cake remnants from her face with a tissue as he calmly said, "Old man, don't shout. I know you're still strong and will probably live for several more years, but please, don't scare the little girl."
