Chapter 10 Are You Unhappy

Phil stared at the empty stairs in deep thought for a long time. Seeing that it was already late, the butler came to his side and kindly reminded him, "Master, it's time to leave."

At the sound of that, Phil nodded slightly and straightened up his clothes as he said, "Thank you. Prepare the car. I'll go out now."

"Yes, sir. I will see to it." The butler took a few steps forward before coming to a sudden stop. He then looked back at the old master and asked, "Would you like me to ask the young master to come as well? Mr. Ning just called and said that he hoped Young Master Ryker would also be there with you, sir."

Phil's face suddenly became darker as a touch of annoyance flashed through his eyes. Frightened, the butler immediately shut his mouth and stood aside in silence.

The old master snorted and snapped, "Remy should count himself very fortunate to have me at his wedding, but he still insists on pushing his luck. Does he take me for granted now?"

The old man's voice trembled, and a great sense of sadness filled in the air. It had only been a year since his daughter passed away, and his son-in-law was already about to marry a new woman. To make matters worse, his wedding day fell on Marina's death anniversary. The thought made Phil even more furious.

"Let's leave Ryker resting at home. I can go to the wedding alone. By the way, I have some tasks for you." Phil gestured to the butler to come closer. As the man leaned over, the old master whispered a few words to his ear. Instantly, the butler's face lit up, and he ran out of the house excitedly.

Phil looked thoughtfully at the staircase once more and ordered the maid next to him, "Keep an eye on my grandson." Then he turned around and left the house.

At the same time, Ryker ran back to his room with little Kara in his arms. Out of breath, he put her on the bed and promptly collapsed next to her.

Closing his eyes, he pursed his lips slightly and looked very regretful. His reputation was ruined by this little girl today. Now that his grandpa knew he had been crying, the old man would tease him for the rest of his life. He had no idea how to cope with that.

Kara kicked off her shoes and crawled on the soft bed until she reached Ryker's arm. Next to him, she asked in confusion, "Are you unhappy?"

Without opening his eyes, Ryker raised his hand and had no difficulty finding her little head precisely. As he stroked her silky hair, he replied in a muffled voice, "I'm not unhappy." However, his hands shook heavily, indicating how upset he was.

Although Kara was young, she was good at reading people's faces. Stretching out her little hand, she pulled the corner of his lips and said, "You're lying. Look at your mouth. Your pout is so huge that you should hang a bottle of milk on it!"

Her naive words touched his heart. Ryker opened his eyes and put his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. She lay quietly on his chest and stared at him with her big black eyes in confusion.

"How do you know that I am unhappy?" he asked softly.

Supporting her delicate chin on his chest, she thought carefully for a moment before she replied, "Whenever I get angry, just like you're now, daddy always tells me that I have a big pout and could hang a bottle of milk on it."

Ryker couldn't help but burst into laughter. He suspected the little girl didn't even understand the meaning of these words. Yet she used them on him anyway.

Thanks to her and her companionship, his bad mood was gone. In fact, he felt much lighter and happier around her. Then, holding her tightly, he turned over and sat up on the bed with her on his lap. A doting smile lifted the corners of his lips as he murmured, "Well, aren't you one smart little angel?"

"Of course I'm smart," she immediately replied with a bright smile that reached her eyes.

"You little narcissist! Alright, I know how smart you really are, but you really need to take a shower. Your face is still dirty from all that rolling on the ground." The next moment, he carried her out of the bed and walked towards the bathroom.
