Chapter 6 Locked In A Warehouse

Viola froze as soon as the notebook flew towards Maynard and hit him in the head with a loud thud.

The room went silent. She could clearly hear the sound of the wind blowing over the leaves of the trees outside the window.

After recovering from her initial shock, Viola quickly grabbed the notebook and held it close to her chest. An awkward smile formed on her lips as she tried to tiptoe and reach Maynard's head. "Are you alright? Does it hurt? I can call the ambulance right away."

Cold sweat seemed to break out on her forehead. The person she just hit was a prince. She couldn't afford to offend him.

Maynard pulled her hand down and smiled.

Viola couldn't help but release a soft sigh seeing that the man in front of her didn't show signs of getting mad.

However, the moment she thought that she was able to escape a possible crisis, Maynard pressed a button on his desk. The door opened after a few seconds and several men in uniforms came in.

"Arrest her!" Maynard's ruthless order echoed throughout the room.

"What the hell are you doing? Let go of me!" Viola yelled as she tried to get away from the men's grasp.

Her struggle was useless, however. One of the bodyguards grabbed her hands and secured them harshly at her back.

Viola winced in pain. Color drained from her face as her notebook fell to the floor.

She felt the cold metal touch her skin as another bodyguard handcuffed her from behind.

Viola shot Maynard a dark look. She tried to break free, but the handcuffs had only hurt her wrists more. "You son of a bitch! I just hit you with a notebook. Are you treating me as a criminal?"

The arrogant smirk on Maynard's face made her feel that something bad was going to happen.

After being shoved into a large warehouse, Viola immediately got up and ran towards the gate. She wasn't able to reach it in time and it was shut right in her face with a loud bang.

"Let me out! You are breaking the law! I will sue you for this!" She continued to scream and kick the gate with all her strength.

However, no one responded despite how much noise she made.

Trying to control her anger, she took in deep breaths and stopped kicking. She was getting tired already anyway and it made no progress at all, so she decided to sit on the floor. Viola's eyes wandered at her surroundings.

The warehouse was huge, yet it had only one dim yellow light bulb hanging on the ceiling.

Viola couldn't help but picture small and scary creatures that might be hiding in the dark where the light could not cover.

She continued to helplessly look around as goose bumps started to form on her. Although she wanted to cry, no tears came out from her eyes. "Am I going to die here today?"

Viola didn't want to die. She might be poor and always had her salary deducted, but she still had a cute son.

The thought of her son who was still waiting for her to come back home gave her the resolve to remain brave. She forcefully took in deep breaths until her heart finally calmed down.

She had no idea how long she had been in there. It felt like an awfully long time had passed by. Although Viola knew that it must have probably been only hours, it still felt like it had been already years.

A lot of crazy thoughts went through her head while she waited. Would she be shot, euthanized, or soaked in formalin?

The more she thought of what could happen to her, the more frightened she became.

Suddenly, the gate finally opened. Viola squinted at the bright light as she tried to see the person by the entrance.

Before she was able to clearly see who it was, a deep and attractive voice came from above her head. "Do you know what you did wrong?"

Maynard was clad in a suit as he stood against the golden light like a god. His appearance looked absolutely regal despite standing in front of a rusty iron gate.

Viola shook those attractive thoughts out of her head and clung onto his leg desperately. "I'm sorry, please forgive me."

Maynard took a glance at his watch and looked at her with a cold and indifferent manner. "I don't have much time. Tell me what you did wrong."

"I shouldn't have drawn a turtle on your face, hit you with a notebook and refused to admit my mistakes," Viola admitted.

"Let go of me." Maynard furrowed his brows and looked at his leg.

"I've already admitted to my mistakes. Can you forgive me and let me out?" Viola put on a flattering smile.

She didn't want to spend any more time inside the large and creepy warehouse.

Maynard's cold eyes bore into hers. "Did you see me five years ago?"

Although Viola was surprised with his question, she tried her best not to show it. She almost bit her tongue and managed to give him an innocent smile. "Five years ago, I was very poor and didn't even have a decent job. How could I have met someone like you back then?"

Maynard remained silent. His cold and calculating eyes didn't leave her for a while. Then, he turned around and left.

Viola breathed a soft sigh of relief as Maynard was out of sight. "God, please don't let him remember what happened five years ago. Please don't."

Based on what Maynard had just done to her, she knew that she wouldn't be able to see her precious son again if he remembered.

Since the gate was left open, Viola thought that he was already letting her go. As expected, a bodyguard came over and unlocked her handcuffs.

She didn't dare to remain lingering inside the warehouse since she was afraid that Maynard might change his mind. No matter how much she wanted to make a run for it, she could only limp forward slowly because of her injured foot.

Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks and groaned. The ugly turtle was still on her face, and she certainly didn't want to strut around the city with it.

Having no choice, Viola went to the nearest tap and scrubbed the hideous thing off her face.
