Chapter 6 The CEO's Grandma

While Kate was confused, Brian had taken her near the hospital bed. "Grandma," he gently called the old woman lying on it.

Something seemed to explode in Kate's mind. She wasn't ready for meeting the family yet, but he brought her there! For her, the makeup and clothes she was currently wearing weren't appropriate for this interaction. Other than that, she had twisted an ankle, and she had to limp when walking, which was really not good-looking. How could he bring her to meet his grandma without saying anything prior!

"Yes, Brian?" a soft voice from the bed answered back. The old woman's pale face appeared a little bit scarlet when she saw Brian. She struggled to sit up.

Seeing this, Brian loosened his hand supporting Kate and reached out to support his grandma. From being cold, Brian transformed into a gentle, sensitive grandchild. Kate was stunned as she had never seen such a gentle boss.

"Who is this?" The old woman's face was pale and she was weak, but she still had good eyesight. When she sat up, she instantly saw Kate standing beside her grandson. She couldn't help asking.

Kate wanted to introduce herself, but was interrupted by Brian. He said nonchalantly, "Her name's Kate Luo, and she is my wife. We're newlyweds."

Kate immediately shut up. This was the second time he had introduced her like this today. Compared to the shock she had the first time, she felt that she seemed to adapt to it now.

She grinned at the old woman, and said, "Nice to meet you, Grandma."

Kate thought that the old woman would just nod her head kindly, and then she would begin to ask her a lot of questions. Didn't rich people always put an emphasis on the family status of a family member's match? She even figured out how to answer the old woman's possible questions.

But beyond her expectations, the old woman looked at Kate excitedly, and even her spirit improved a bit too. "Nice to meet you too. I am Brian's grandma. When did you get married? Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" she asked with a smile.

In a daze, Kate looked at the old woman's reproachful expression and suddenly thought she was very adorable.

"Yesterday, Grandma." The coldness on Brian's face was also replaced by tenderness.

"Have you chosen a date to hold the wedding ceremony? Have you already gotten an elegant dress to wear? Oh, did you already hold your wedding ceremony?" Speaking of Brian's marriage, the old woman was evidently more enthusiastic than Brian himself that she kept asking questions.

Kate was speechless. She suddenly understood that she went to a blind date because her mother had been pressuring her. On the other hand, the reason why Brian promised to feign marriage with her was mostly because of this old woman.

It seemed that the CEO was quite filial towards his grandmother. Kate grew fond of Brian even more.

"We've planned not to hold a wedding ceremony. She thinks it's only troublesome." Brian shifted all the responsibility onto Kate.

"Kate, how can you think it's just troublesome? Marriage is a lifetime thing, right? Some women can only wear wedding dresses once in a lifetime. Is that only an inconvenience for you?" When the old woman heard that it was Kate's dilemma, she turned her head to the girl. She tried to persuade Kate earnestly.

This energetic old woman was totally different from that pale one earlier. Kate was quite embarrassed. And it turned out that a person's mental strength could really be so great.

Kate's eyes rolled quickly, and then she explained embarrassingly, "It's not that I don't want to have a wedding ceremony. But we went to see what our fate says. The fortune teller said that we aren't suitable for holding a wedding this year. That's why we decided to get a marriage certificate first before holding a marriage ceremony."

Hearing that it was decided according to the fortune teller's suggestion, the old woman stopped persuading. Sometimes people from a wealthy family were more superstitious than those from an ordinary family.

"I understand." The old woman's tone slowly faded down.

Kate held the old woman's hand and smiled, "We've already gotten the marriage certificate. It doesn't matter whether we hold the wedding ceremony or not."

"Yes." The old woman nodded and suddenly stared at Kate's stomach, asking, "Kate, are you pregnant?"

An awkward silence filled the room for seconds.

Kate covered her mouth and coughed. She thought to herself, 'Madam, your thoughts are changing so fast. We just got married yesterday, and you're asking for a baby now?'

"Not yet," Kate answered in a low voice.

"Then you should hurry up. As soon as possible! Brian's already twenty-six years old. He had never been in a relationship before. I even thought he was abnormal. After seeing you, now I'm relieved." The old woman put Kate's hand on top of Brian's and sighed.

At the moment when Kate touched Brian, she wanted to draw back subconsciously. But Brian clasped her hand tightly. Brian's palm was a little cold, while Kate's was warm. It was said that a person with a warm body paired with a cold one would be a perfect couple because they complemented each other.

It was undeniable that Kate's body was sort of electrified.

She didn't hate him at all, and she found that touching him was not as unacceptable as she had expected.

Was it because that incident had faded away? Or was it because the man in front of her was so great and it diluted the impact of that incident on her?

Since her stepfather left, she had rarely touched a man. Every time she was just a centimeter away from a man, she would reflexively distance herself. Even though she had to do physical contact sometimes, she would feel disgusted.

However, the disgusting feeling seemed to be not so strong this time. It was different when she touched this man.

Very soon, the old woman fell asleep. Seeing that, Kate immediately pulled her hand out from Brian's.

When he felt that Kate was trying to refuse him, Brian slightly raised his eyebrows. No one had dared to refuse him like this before.

"Are we leaving now?" Kate avoided Brian's scrutinizing eyes and looked around.

Other than them, Brian's grandmother was the only person in the ward. The decoration was very warm and elegant. It was more like an ordinary bedroom. It seemed that the old woman was a long-time resident in here.

"Yes," Brian replied.

As soon as they were in the car, Kate's stomach started to rumble. Brian looked at her face weirdly. Kate looked out of the window and smiled embarrassedly, "The moon looks astonishing."

Brian also looked out of the window and responded lightly, "There's no moon tonight."

"Uh." Kate let out a shallow sigh. She found it tiring to get along with someone who didn't have a sense of humor.

The car started slowly. Colorful neon lights flashed outside the car window. The wind gently lifted up the hair on Kate's forehead. Her fine hair fluttered in the wind, making her rather stunning.

Looking out of the window, she still couldn't believe what she had gone through these two days.

She got married with Lora's dream boss, and her own boss too.

What made her most dumbstruck was that she treated him rudely yesterday.

"Well, I want to go home," Kate uttered calmly. If a delicate woman hung around with an adult man in the middle of the night, the probability of having a one-night stand was more than 80%.

Though, as a modern female, she didn't care much about chastity. In her eyes, it wasn't a question of purity but dignity.

Brian didn't answer her. "I want to go home," Kate repeated it with much louder voice.

She was just like a timid little girl, forced by her family to greet an outsider.

"Okay," the man on the driver's seat finally responded.

The car stopped. Kate looked out of the window excitedly, thinking that she had already returned to the Faraway Community. But unexpectedly, outside the car window was a hotel building.

Seeing the lovers coming in and out of the hotel door, Kate panicked and was flustered. She was wondering what Brian wanted to do.

As she thought about this, Brian had gotten out of the car first, and Kate had to follow him.

She stopped there and was unwilling to move. But when she looked up, she found that Brian didn't enter the hotel at all, but walked toward a restaurant opposite the hotel.

She was wrong again. The CEO was taking her to dinner. Was it because he was very satisfied with her performance? Thinking of this, Kate was suddenly delighted, with her tender red lips slightly upturned and her dimples showing.

Brian paused for a while, and Kate cheerily followed him. Although it was already past ten o'clock in the evening, there were still many people in the restaurant. At the sight of Brian coming in with Kate, a waiter respectfully took them to a separate dining room.

Touching the leather sofa of the five-star restaurant, Kate greedily looked at all kinds of luxury goods. She swallowed and thought, 'How long will I have to work as an office worker to afford these things?'

Opposite her, Brian had already sat down and leaned back on the sofa. He quietly closed his eyes to rest. Honestly, he was a little annoyed today. This little woman had talked too much. However, his grandmother was very pleased today. This meal was just a reward.

Soon, the waiters served the dishes. Looking at the delicious, appetizing food, Kate swallowed hard but still didn't dare to move her chopsticks. She glanced at Brian's direction and couldn't help but ask gently, "Boss, are you asleep?"

Brian said nothing.

After a while, Kate called out again, "Mr. Li?"

She minimized her voice so as not to disturb or annoy Brian. But she already wanted to eat. This ambivalent feeling made Kate very upset.

Finally, Brian slowly opened his eyes. He looked at Kate and asked, "Do you get your job in the company by your tongue?"

Kate lowered her head. The novel she had read didn't tell her how to react to this situation. Did the boss dislike her for being a chatterbox? Kate was overthinking.

Luckily, there was a knock on the door that saved Kate from embarrassment. When the door opened slowly, a good-looking young man and a fine girl came in.

When the girl saw Brian, she immediately pounced on Brian with a wide smile on her face. Her lovely body quickly plunged into his arms, and her soft hands wrapped around his neck. She lifted her little face and looked at Brian. "Oh, my dear brother, I missed you so much!" she exclaimed.

The young man behind her also smiled slightly, "Lily has a pair of sharp eyes. I didn't see you came in, but she saw you and dragged me to come to find you."
