Chapter 5 THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENED

She got scared at first but moved closer to her,then she realized it was just a small sharp table knife. She asked "What is the knife for, Vivian?".

Vivian giggled "Do not fret, I'm not going to hurt you, don't you worry".

"So, what are we here for?" Kayla asked.

"Do you remember what we promised each other the first time we came here together?" She asked.

"Yes, I remember" Kayla answered though still a bit nervous.

"Can we say those things again but this time in form of an oath with our bloods?" Vivian asked.

She answered without hesitation and scoffed "Yes, why not! Well, it's just an oath, right?"

"Yes it is, are you ready?" She asked.

Vivian used the knife in her hand to sl*t her palm open slightly and Kayla's palm as well, they both joined hands together, and in unison they said "We promise to remain as friends, to love and protect one another, to stand by each other, never to hurt each other, not even death will tear us apart, and even if death does, we'll continue to live and be together as friends forever".

They both exchanged blood and laid it on the altar of the temple and there the oath was sealed, not knowing what they've gotten themselves into. At this point, Kayla was reassured that Vivian could never hurt her nor her mom but well who knows what tomorrow holds!

"I think we need to go back to school, we have lectures by four o'clock today...I don't think we should miss it" Vivian suggested.

Kayla nodded in agreement, brought out her phone from her trouser's pocket and put a call through to her mom, letting her know they had gone back to school.

"Hey mom, we are headed back to school. Don't cook dinner" Kayla exhaled sharply as she hung up the call, not giving her mom the chance to say anything.

The two happy friends left the temple and went straight to the nearby bus terminal. A bus arrived and they boarded it back to school.

When they got back to school, they met everywhere quiet like a graveyard. "Where did everyone go?" Vivian asked Kayla.

"I believe we both just got here" She responded with a bit sacarsm.

"Yeah" Vivian murmured quietly.

They both went to their hostel but on their way, they met a student and asked why everywhere seemed empty.

"Oh sorry but any idea what is going on?" Kayla asked.

"Yeah, every student was instructed to come for a meeting at Jackal Hall at exactly four pm and everyone is there" The student answered.

She was about to leave when Vivian pulled her cloth back gently "But what for?" She asked.

"The director is going to have a meeting with us" She resonded. She dropped Vivian's hand off her cloth gently and bidded them goodbye but she paused and said "Don't be late, you know the director is a time conscious person" her voice was a bit loud. They both rushed out of the hostel and headed straight to Jackal Hall. When they got there, they saw everyone gathered: some were standing while some were sitting. The hall was so noisy but once the director was sighted, they began to run helter-skelter to find a seat. Vivian and Kayla found themselves a seat as well.

Director cleared his throught as he stood behind the pulpit "Let us all rise and observe a minute silence for our lost doctor and nurse, and also that of our beloved student who had always been a great influence in this college" He turned his mic away and everyone stood to observe it, afterwards they all sat and he addressed his concerns on the death issues. He assured the students that such things would never happen again.

"Security had been doubled and this hall is the safest place to have any party right now but if otherwise, then the security level will be tripled" He assured.

Dave's parents walked in and the moment the director saw them, he knew there was trouble but it ain't their fault that their son is dead. He dismissed the students and told them to always be very careful and watchful. He went to meet Dave's parents and ushered them into his office.

"What exactly happened to our son?" Dave's mom was teary already, she sobbed a little and wiped her face with her handkerchief, she continued "He was all that was left for us after his sister died...how could this happen to us again?" She questioned the director like she expected an answer from him.

"I am so sorry for your loss Mr and Mrs Hurst but we are trying our very best to get to the root of this matter.

"You better get to it except you want this damn college to be shut down forever" Dave's dad ordered, stood up in anger and told his wife to follow him, which she did immediately and they left.

The director showed a sign of relieve, adjusted his tie and scoffed "Where exactly do i even start from! Dave is dead, only God know who would be next" He exclaimed. After a few days, the director who had been having sleepless nights due to nightmares and threat he received from those mares, warned both Dave's parents to let it all go.

Yet, they refused to let go as they thought they deserved an explanation on what happened to their son and were both ready to spend as much as they could on investigation but little did they know that what they're looking for can actually be their end if they refuse to stop. Not long after, word came in that both parents had died in a car crash. It was a thing of shock that one of the most powerful billionaire in the city was dead. "I did warn them but they didn't listen" Director whispered to himself when he heard the news.

On a certain night, two months after all the death issues had gone down, the students decided to hold another party after a long stay at school but not at Jackal Hall, so security was tripled; every corner was surrounded by security just to prevent further death issues. And of course, Kayla and Vivian both made it to the party.

When they got to the party, a guy came to meet Kayla and asked her for a dance and she looked at Vivian if she would be fine alone; Vivian nodded in agreement and Kayla left with the guy.

She watched as Kayla and the guy danced and she was genuinely happy that her friend had probably found someone. She later joined them on the dance floor but after some time, she got tired of it all and decided to take a walk outside alone. When she stepped out, not far from her she saw her sister Megan with a guy leaning on a car, kissing and smushing each other.

She approached and questioned her "What are you doing here, Sis?".

"I just came by to have some fun with my boyfriend, that's all" She answered.

"Did mom or dad send you here to watch me?" She asked.

Megan scoffed "duh...She doesn't even know you'd be here neither is she aware of my presence here" She responded. After taking a sip from here drink, she continued... "Anyways, meet Jordan my boyfriend, and Jordan meet my sister Vivian".

Jordan and Vivian exchanged greetings, she left both of them to enjoy themselves though she instructed her to go home as soon as she was done or call her to get her a place to sleep in her hostel. She went to the beach close to the party area to sit and have her own fun when her eyes suddenly turned red and black again, she felt strange and was like something crawling over her skin, her emotions became darkened, she left there immediately.

She ran to the balcony instead and tried looking at the view of things, but she heard a strange noise from the forest close by, she moved a bit closer and saw a big cat standing out of the forest and immediately it saw her it ran back in and Vivian didn't hesitate to follow: thought it was a rescue mission. When she got deeper into the forest, she called out the cat.

"Hey catty, where are you, come out now". She said stylishly as she kept looking for the cat not knowing how far she had gone into the forest.

Someone pushed her slightly forward from behind and tapped on her shoulder, she looked back and saw people without their faces holding a wood with fire each, she got scared and screamed but no one could hear her as the music was too loud and she was quite distanced from the party.

She started running; she wanted to go closer to the party to warn everybody about what is in the forest.

Almost out of the forest, she fell to the ground with her chest. Her feet got stucked in between branches of leaves, while she struggled to set herself free and to stand up, one of the faceless people held on to her feet and dragged her back into the forest, her scream got louder but still no one could hear her, but someone felt it.

"I think I heard Vivian's scream" Kayla said, she stopped dancing.

"It's just noise from the woods, it is nothing" Justin persuaded her. They both started kissing and went upstairs to have some fun while everyone kept partying hard downstairs.

Vivian survived whatever happened in the forest and walked out looking tattered and weak, she looked around but didn't see Megan anymore, thought she had gone home but she was in the car with her boyfriend having fun. She pushed herself to the party and walked in quietly and she made a loud shout with the little strength she had left so that people could get out of the place, but no one could hear her yet she kept on shouting "get out of here everyone, there's something in the woods" but still no one could hear her due to the loud music and those that were closer to her who heard called her crazy, laughed her to scorn.

Not up to five minutes, all the lights went off in the whole building, there was sounds of gunshot from the security but all they could see was shadows. "I told you all" Vivian says as she giggled in excitement and satisfaction. Everyone started running helter-skelter for their dear lives and right there Vivian's eyes turned red and black again but this time a lot of people lost their lives. After some minutes, the light came back on.

The questions were, was it really something from the forest or someone in the party?.

Those that survived whatever happened began to scream when they saw everywhere filled with blood and dead bodies. Justin (the guy Kayla danced with and had fun with) and Kayla rushed out of the room.

Kayla hits Justin slightly and said "I told you I heard screams" she put her clothes and panties back on as she went to find out what was happening downstairs. Justin followed her immediately.

"What the f*ck happened?" he whispered. People running and screaming for help but no one could come to their rescue, some called for an ambulance while Justin asked Kayla "Where is your friend?". Kayla almost forgot Vivian was there too as she was carried away by what she saw.

"Oh my God, Vivian, where could she be!" Kayla exclaimed. She started looking for her "Vivian, Vivian" she kept on shouting her name but there was no response.

Justin also helped in the search, later a thought brushed through Justin's mind "Let us check the bodies on the floor", at first she was reluctant but she opted in for the search. They both searched for Vivian amongst the dead just maybe she fell unconscious or probably dead.

They found her lying unconscious on the floor covered with blood over her body. "We need to take her to the hospital, right now" Kayla told Justin, in a tone of command.

Vivian was rushed to the hospital which was thrity minutes drive away and Justin went to the cops to report the incident after dropping them off. Meanwhile it had been reported and some officers were on their way already, when the officers got to the scene they were shocked "What the hell could have happened here! " One of the officers exclaimed in shock.

"Even the damn securities are all dead" Another officer responded.

Two ambulance were available for those that were injured and also those that are dead.

Vivian was taken to the emergency room and was attended to. For more than two hours Kayla didn't hear anything from the Doctors or Nurses "I hope she's alive" she whispered quietly. She saw other students being rushed down to the hospital by ambulances and she became more worried.

Few minutes later, the doctor came out of the room, she asked "how is she, doctor?"

"I am sorry but we lost her" the Doctor replied. The doctor was about to walk out when she held on to his hand and asked again "She's dead....dead as in she died?"

The doctor answered "Yes, I am so sorry for the loss, she was seriously injured and she wasn't brought in earlier, there was nothing more we could have done. My condolences to you" the doctor left.

Kayla stood there in shock and disbelief, her heart pounding fast like it was going to come out of her chest, her legs felt shaky almost falling but she tried to hold on to the wall as she sat slowly on the floor. She couldn't believe that Vivian could actually die, it is impossible. She is not the person to die so easily on mere injuries with the kind of power she holds, i thought she told me Vivian could never die except orchestrated by her.

When she finally accepted it to be true when she saw her, she was more heartbroken and held her hands

"Why did this happen to you, I wouldn't have gone with Justin... I would've protected you as we promised each other. I am sorry I got carried away" Kayla continued laments and in regrets. Justin who just got back from the police, saw her from afar sitting on the floor. He walked close to her and asked "What happened?".

She answered "Vivian is dead and it is all my fault, I shouldn't have left her alone. I could have told her to come with us but I f*ck*d *p, I really didn't know such thing was going to happen".

Justin couldn't believe that Vivian was actually dead either, even though they just met tonight, he was shocked. "Don't you think we should call her parents or guardian?" He asked.

"Yeah, that's true" She sniffled.

She picked up her phone and dialed Megan's number but it wasn't going through, she then tried her mother's line and she picks up.

"Hi, mom, I am sorry but you need to come down to the hospital right now" she said in a sad and grieving tone.

"What are you talking about?" Vivian's mom asked.

"I mean Vivian is dead mom" she cried more.

"But she was the one who called me to come pick up Megan cause she got injured, she's currently at the hospital with me" she explained.

"What?" Kayla in disbelief, stood up quickly and hung up the call.

Kayla went straight to the ward Vivian was to check if she had disappeared or something but as she opened the door, she saw Vivian's body still lying on the bed covered with clothes.

"But she is right here!" She whispered.
