Chapter 4 DEATH ROLL

The moment Dave disappeared, so did Vivian too. Kayla's scream couldn't be heard, Vivian had used her powers to block it and also to shut the door. Kayla got a bit scared but at the same time she knew if anything was going to happen, she could protect herself at the very least. "If I do not see her in the next two hours, It means something terrible had probably happened to her" She whispered to herself. She felt restless, roaming around the room.

Dave woke up to find himself in a chair, he tried to move but he was chained on his legs, hands and body. He coughed and tried to speak but was hushed.

"Exhale first, you are really going to need it" Voice echoed.

Dave breath in and out multiple times and finally he said something "I can explain, please" He pleaded.

"Your sister pleaded with you to spare her life too, didn't she?" Voice asked.

Dave began to cry, he tried to talk but was overwhelmed with tears rolling down his cheek. A metal clang dropped to the floor, he heard the metal being dragged slowly with the sound of heels moving as quiet as possible. 'It is definitely a female' he thought. The drag continued and seemed to be closer to him, it was thrown right next to him and he shouted.

"Don't worry, ain't gonna hurt you just yet" Voice said, continued..."but I will hurt you soon if you do not confess of your sins, Dave".

He swallowed and then finally he opened up and confessed.

"Alright...I had always wanted to be the heir to my father's company and his wealth all round but he seemed not to see the efforts I was putting in, yet he acknowledged my sister for every little thing and..." he got interrupted "And why was that, what did you do to your father that made him detest his own son, depriving him of his right?" He was questioned.

He answered "I got into trouble while I was in high school, I did drugs and almost got expelled, as a billionaire's son it all got covered and expulsion was impossible. I think that was the moment I fucked it all up so I kept trying my best to prove to him I was a changed person" he exhaled sharply.

"Were you really changed! I think your dad knew you were really not worth it. If I was your dad, i'd choose your sister over again, she was humble and respectful I guess but you had to end her life brutally" The voice expressed.

"It wasn't brutal okay. Yeah, I got jealous but I really didn't mean to kill her. I just wanted to end my own life so she could have it all since I was invaluable to him. I litted my drink with an overdose, I dropped it off on my desk...then went quickly to the bathroom to have a quiet moment first. I heard a knock on my room's door but i ignored, she opened but didn't pay much attention to it. She walked in and she saw the drink" He took a pause and gulped.

He sniffled and continued "I didn't know she would come in at that moment nor drink the wine I dropped on my desk. I came out of the bathroom and saw that she had even exhausted the drink. I took the cup from her and scolded her for taking what was mine. She thought I was not serious about it and she ran playfully to her room..."

He paused again, felt sobber and continued... "Few minutes later, l went to her room and met her struggling, she couldn't breath properly and was bleeding from her nose, didn't know what to do so I tried calling an ambulance but a thought ran through my mind that it was an opportunity for me to inherit it all. So, she held on to me begging to save her life but I didn't, I watched her die....I know I was so selfish and I regretted it but I loved my sister" He explained. He couldn't control his emotions or hold on to that tears any longer, he cried bitterly.

After his confession, he felt something crawling on his skin like the root of a tree, his breath was shaky as fear overwhelmed him, the voice echoed louder and scarier than before "Here is my judgement" laughed hysterically.

There was a sudden spark of light in the room and Dave began to burn from the inside as the roots crawled slowly into his body, he screamed in so much pain, no matter how loud he screamed, his voice was never heard by anyone...He grunted in pain, asked for help but no one could save him. This was the first evil committed and the first judgement made by the true heir.

Kayla stood there, waiting patiently for Vivian's to appear, it had been over an hour already. As she was about to have her seat, a heavy breeze blew, she thought it was Vivian but she got disappointed, it wasn't her, it was no one!

Dave wasn't dead yet, he was at the verge of dying and gradually losing his breath but before the last air was drawn out of him, the voice whispered into his ears "I am whom you'll never know nor live to see, I'm not a murderer, but I do whatever pleases me with whomever i want, you should have never awakened me".

There was more fire from his inside and it gushed out of his mouth till he lost his breath and died, her laughter filled the dark room, with wickedness and horror in her eyes, glowing bright red even in the dark.

"This is just the beginning" she said.

Tommy and the others went to back down to search for him, maybe they heard wrong. Tommy went to get security and they came to the hostel but didn't find him, but he was assured that maybe he had gone out or he was never there. When they tried to explain what had happened, none of the security believed them. "If he was truly in the room as claimed, he couldn't just disappear like that" Security murmured. Though they made sure to put a call through to his parents, and they were aware of the situation: "Don't worry, he will be fine, he acts stupid sometimes" Dave's dad response to the call.

Back to Kayla, the room's door opened by itself, she got scared at first and she stepped out and walked slowly. She went to the hospital to talk to the doctor or nurse if they had seen Vivian but when she got there, what she met was different and heartbreaking. "Something seems off, I can feel it" She whispered to herself as she walked in.

When she got to the reception, she asked "Please, have you seen my friend, Vivian...uhm..she is a bit tall, looks older than I am, long brown hair and..." She got interrupted "I haven't seen anyone with such description" The receptionist answered briefly.

She walked out of the hospital through the back just to look around when she saw Vivian on the floor, unconscious. She gasped and rushed towards her, lifted her up partially and said her name while shaking her off multiple times but she didn't answer. She carried her with all her strength and took her into the hospital, she was taken from her and laid her on her bed in an empty ward.

The Nurse that helped her back in, attended to her and gave her drips that could help her out of her unconsciousness.

A day after the incident, she woke up with a slight headache "What happened?" She asked. "I should be asking you that girl or you don't remember?" Kayla asked.

"I don't know shit Kayla" Vivian responded, her body was still weak but she was okay. Kayla went to get the nurse and necessary tests were taken until proven okay.

Vivian got discharged in the morning of the second day. They both left for their hostel. Kayla needed some answers, she questioned Vivian "Do you remember what happened when we got here yesterday?".

"Nope, what happened?" She asked, clueless about what had happened.

"Nothing...never mind, let's just have some rest and afterwards we can go home to see your mom, just to go check up on her" She responded.

Kayla again lost in her own thoughts 'Could she have hurt Dave?, Naaahhh, that doesn't make any sense, she's no wicked human, just got the wrong powers, she can't even hurt a roach'.

Vivian fell asleep and Kayla left the room quietly and went out as she heard noises from outside the hostel gate. She got closer and saw a large crowd. The press, students and the school managements were there, people taking pictures and out of curiosity she asked one of the students standing next to her "What is going on here?"

The student answered"Dave Hurst's body was found outside the boy's hostel gate this morning... it's really not looking good at all"

"Suicide?" Kayla asked, was curious.

"Heard he was acting all weird yesterday after lectures, his friend Tommy told the director" Student responded.

Kayla asked "Where was his body found exactly?"

"Outside the gate, thought I already told you that...gosh" she responded out of frustration. She student walked away with a hiss of pity.

Kayla was surprised, left the scene and rushed back to the room out of anger to question Vivian but on getting inside, she couldn't find her. She went to the hospital to look for her but she wasn't there, she went to the doctor's office to ask if he had seen her friend but as she opened the door, she saw something else, with a slight fall to the ground still holding on to the door, she screamed out loud "Haahhh".

Some of the Nurses rushed down to her as they heard the scream and saw the doctor dead on his chair, one of them opened the door a little wider and she got shocked when she saw a dead Nurse too, with blood still flowing out from their ears and nose. The nurse broke down in tears. "There are two of them" The nurse alerted.

Both the Doctor and the Nurse (the doctor who froze when Kayla had called for help with the nurse that helped her in when she was found) who took care of Vivian. Kayla sat on the floor in despair, sobbed while the Nurses rushed the Doctor and the Nurse declared to be dead to the mortuary. They put a call through to each of them families, autopsy was conducted and it was found out that they were poisoned but who could have done such!

At this point, Kayla became sure of one thing that Vivian killed Dave, the Doctor and the Nurse but the question is 'why?'. She asked herself 'By chance, is she killing her witnesses, those that were there when the incident with Dave happened?'. She wasn't scared initially but at this point she became scared if she was the next person to be killed as she doesn't know nor trust what Vivian's powers could do anymore.

She couldn't go back to the hostel, she became restless and needed someone to talk to someone, so she brought out her phone from her pocket and put a call through to her mom, her mom picked up the call "Hey mom, I'm coming home and I really need to talk to you". She hung up the call and went straight to the bus terminal to get a ride home.

On getting home, she met her now biggest nightmare Vivian with her mom in the house, her heart trembled in fear, she got nervous and said "Oh hi Vivian, I didn't know you were here". She gave a fake smile and walked off to the kitchen to check on her mom. Vivian could sense the fear in her and followed her to call her outside before she could get to tell her mom anything; not because she was guilty but she could read through her that she was afraid.

"You look scared...wait...do you think I killed the three of them! You should know me better that I wouldn't, the Doctor and Nurse did nothing wrong to me neither did Dave" She said and exhaled sharply. She continued... "Kayla, I really don't understand what's going on and I came here to check on your mom if anything was wrong since she's the one closer to our school. I just came here to protect her and to cool my head off".

She was unhappy that Kayla couldn't trust her and came all the way home to see if she had hurt her mom, she assured her "No matter what, believe me I would never hurt your mom nor you, I promise".

Kayla replied with her voice a bit crackled "You didn't think something could happen to me too? I mean those that took care of you are all gone, Dave is gone too: not even sure what he did wrong but he is fucking dead. I could be next not my mom".

Vivian responded "But you can protect yourself and I believe nothing or no one can hurt you as long as i am here".

They both held each other's hands and went back in, went for the kitchen to meet Kayla's mom (Stephanie) who was washing the dishes.

Few minutes after, a voice whispered to Vivian "Kill her" but she feigned ignorance; the voices were on repetition in her head "Kill her" but she resisted and told Kayla she had to leave.

"Why are you leaving so soon, why don't you wait for dinner?" Stephanie asked.

"No mom, see you next time, I gotta go" She answered and left without looking back.

"Are you girls cool?" Stephanie asked Kayla, she thought maybe they had a few misunderstanding.

"Yes mom, she's not just feeling herself recently" she replied.

Kayla wondered why she had to leave suddenly but she couldn't hold her back either. Few minutes later, she got a call from Vivian, she answered "Hello Vivian, have you left for school or went home?" She asked.

"Can you come and meet me at that abandoned temple close to the Old forest way?" She hung up the call without giving Kayla the chance to respond.

Kayla hesitated at first but she remembered the promise they both made to each other 'No matter what might happen, if any of them calls the other for anything or needed help, they must respond'

Well, such promise is difficult to keep but not with the two friends.

Kayla took her jacket and bid her mom good bye, she headed straight to the temple at the Old forest way, which was thirty minutes away from her home.

She entered into the temple and saw Vivian holding a knife.

Her heart skipped a bit "What the fuck is she holding a knife for?" She said quietly.
