After a long while, Liam went back to the hospital room and saw Lillian staring blankly out the window in the bed wearily.
Her swollen face and her delicate beauty made her appear unusually fragile.
Liam's heart seemed to be pieced, as he felt more guilty for having let Lindsay slap her.
He paused and then walked over to sit by the bed. He said while holding her hand, "Lillian, are you still upset that I didn't save you in time? I swear that I'll always be there to protect. I won't let it happen again in the future."
Lillian looked at his hand, but she remembered he had used his hand to eagerly caress Lindsay.
He pulled her hand away coldly and closed her eyes. She had no response to his words.
There was no future for her and him anymore.
The next day, Lillian returned home. Liam set aside his work to accompany her and eagerly trailed after her.
He anxiously watched her discard many items that held memories of their past. She even packed her belongings in a large suitcase.
She seemed to be leaving him decisively.
Liam grew restless.
He pointed to those items Lillian had thrown into the trash and said with a pale face, "These are all gifts we exchanged before. Why are you throwing them away?"
Before Lillian could respond, he pointed at her suitcase and asked anxiously, "And there is the suitcase. Lillian, where are you going?"
Lillian replied offhandedly, "Things haven't been going well with me lately. I'm traveling for a couple of days."
Liam looked carefully at her expression, but Lillian met his gaze without flinching.
He couldn't see anything on her face and was relieved. He said with a smile, "It sounds good. It's been ages since we last traveled together."
Lillian hadn't yet had the chance to refuse when his phone suddenly rang.
Liam glanced at it, and his face subtly changed. He instinctively hid it before stepping aside to answer the call.
Unfortunately for him, Lillian had already seen Lindsay's name on the screen.
Just then, a servant handed Lillian a document. "Ms. Walsh, someone just delivered this for you."
Lillian opened it and saw the divorce certificates for her and Liam, respectively.
At the same time, her phone vibrated with a flight ticket purchase notification and a message from Jerold. "Lillian, congratulations. You are single now. Welcome home."
Lillian's eyes reddened as she put the divorce certificates into her purse.
Liam finished his call and turned to Lillian. He caught only a glimpse of the corner of the divorce certificate before it was put away.
He was uneasy for no reason and leaned in to ask, "What was that?"
Lillian didn't answer. Instead, she changed the subject. "Who called you?"
Liam's eyes flickered for a moment as he felt a bit guilty. "Sorry, honey. There's something I need to handle in the company. I can't leave, so we'll have to travel together some other time."
Lillian had anticipated that and replied calmly, "That's fine."
Since Liam didn't travel with her, he personally drove her to the airport.
Along the way, he frequently picked up his phone to reply to messages with a faint smile lingering on his lips.
He was likely already imagining how he would enjoy his time with Lindsay when Lillian was away.
Lillian's eyes grew cold. While he was distracted, she placed his divorce certificate in the glove box.
At the airport, Liam reached out to embrace her. He said gently, "Honey, don't stay away too long. I'll be waiting for you to come back."
Lillian felt the familiar embrace, and her eyes reddened slightly.
"Liam, I've got a gift for you. It's in the glove box. Make sure you check it." With that, she gave him a deep look and turned away without hesitation.
Liam stood there and watched her until she disappeared from sight. Then he returned to his car.
He was joyful and was about to reach for the glove box when he suddenly noticed a thin piece of paper that had fallen onto the passenger seat.
He raised his eyebrows and picked it up. When he read the words "Six weeks pregnant," his eyes widened in shock and delight.
"Lillian is pregnant? I'm going to be a dad!"
His heart was overflowing with joy. But before he could fully process it, his phone rang urgently.
As soon as he picked it up, he heard the anxious voice of his assistant, Richard Norris. "Mr. Anderson, there's a problem. You need to come to the office right now. The video of you and Lindsay has been leaked when you were intimate. It is the number one trending topic. Now the company account is being bombarded with negative comments, and many business partners are rushing to terminate their contracts with us. We're doomed."
