James quietly dismissed the maids, and Tracy rushed to Amelia's side, catching her just as she began to collapse.
"Amelia..."
"Eva was such a sweet girl. She was my everything. Why would anyone poison her?" Amelia's voice broke as tears streamed freely down her face.
Tracy's heart ached as she looked at her. Tears welled up in her eyes too. The pain of a mother losing her child was unbearable-she wouldn't wish it on her worst enemy.
They helped Amelia to her room and stayed with her while she cried herself to sleep.
When she finally dozed off, Tracy turned to James with pleading eyes.
"Is there any way you can talk to Alpha Aiden? Maybe he'll listen to you?"
She wiped the corners of her eyes, then looked back at Amelia. Her face was damp with tears, even in sleep.
"Aiden is stubborn. He already believes she poisoned their daughter..."
"James, please..." She almost told him Amelia was pregnant but stopped. It wasn't her place to spread the news.
"She can't lose both her child and her mate in one day," she whispered. "Please, just see if you can talk to him... change his mind."
James sighed. "I can't promise anything. But I'll try."
With that, he left the room.
---
James arrived at the pack company and headed straight to Aiden's office. He found Aiden inside but he was with Sofia.
He hadn't known Sofia was back in town. She had left after Aiden found out Amelia was his mate. What was she doing here now?
"James," Sofia called sweetly, flashing an innocent smile.
He returned a tight nod, then turned to Aiden.
"I need to speak with you."
Aiden glanced at Sofia. "I'll drop by your condo later," he said. She nodded, grabbed her purse, and left.
Once the door shut, James's face hardened.
"Is she the reason you're divorcing Amelia?"
Aiden raised his head. "She has nothing to do with this. Amelia killed my child. She poisoned her."
"You really believe that?" James asked, disbelief clear in his tone. "You think Amelia...Amelia would poison her own daughter? Come on, Aiden. You know her better than that."
Aiden didn't reply. His eyes were distant, jaw clenched. James could see he was hurting but trying to hide it.
"The damage is done," Aiden finally said. "I need you to arrange the rejection ceremony for this evening. I'll be rejecting her as my mate and Luna."
"What? Are you serious?" James took a step forward. "How can you be this heartless? She just lost her child, and now you want to break the mating bond too? Do you even realize how much pain that'll cause her?"
Aiden's eyes darkened. His fists clenched. He growled lowly.
"How dare you question your Alpha?" he snapped, slamming his fist on the desk.
James flinched but stood his ground. "I just hope you don't regret this decision, Aiden. When it's too late."
He turned and walked out.
__________
Evening came.
Amelia woke up, her eyes so swollen she could barely see. Her face was pale, lips dry and trembling.
"You need to eat something," Tracy said softly, worry in her voice. "You're pregnant, Amelia. You don't want to lose the baby too."
"I don't want to eat. I want my daughter," she sobbed.
"Amelia..." Tracy called gently, taking her hands in hers.
"Let me go, Tracy! Let me go!" she cried, pulling away, her body shaking with grief.
Then suddenly, the door flung open and silence fell like a storm.
Alpha Aiden stepped into the room.
Amelia slowly raised her head, his scent hitting her senses. He looked at her blankly, face unreadable.
Why was he here? Wasn't he supposed to be with his mistress?
"Alpha Aiden," Tracy said, standing up quickly and bowing her head. Then, she slipped out of the room, leaving them alone.
For a moment, they just stared at each other.
Then Amelia broke the silence.
"Aren't you supposed to be with your mistress?" she asked, her voice hollow.
Aiden looked away, avoiding her eyes.
"Get ready for the rejection ceremony. It'll be held at 10 p.m.," he said coldly.
Amelia laughed, a cracked, broken sound. She stood up, unsteady, her eyes wild.
She had lost her child. Now she was losing her mate. Her sanity teetered on the edge.
Maybe she'd wake up in an asylum by morning.
She moved closer to him, staring into his eyes. The warmth that once lived there... was gone. Everything about him was ice.
Tears streamed down her face as the realization sank in: her Aiden was gone.her mate was gone.
There was no point in telling him about the baby.
"There's no need for the ceremony," she said, wiping her tears. "Let's do the rejection here and now."
Aiden hesitated, then nodded.
"If that's what you want."
He stared at her, his voice flat, eyes emotionless.
"I, Aiden Miller, Alpha of Red Moon Pack, reject you, Amelia Lopez, as my mate and Luna."
