Every time I thought about it, that one thing I guarded for so long, given away to a stranger, my heart ached. But there was nothing I could do. Regret didn't change anything. My hopes were worthless! My thoughts meant nothing! My dreams? Completely useless.
Suddenly, a splash of cold water hit my face, yanking me out of my thoughts.
I gasped, jerking upright as I choked on my breath.
"What the hell is your problem?" I snapped, as soon as I saw the person in front of me.
Alison stood in front of me, burning with rage.
"I've been calling your name for ages," she said. "You were just sitting there like a statue."
I rubbed my face, still soaked and confused. "What are you even doing here?"
She raised a brow. "Shouldn't I be asking you that? Aren't you supposed to be at work or something?"
I clenched my fists. "What gives you the right to talk to me like that?"
She gave me a look like I'd lost my mind. "Are you... Okay?"
My clothes were in a mess. What on earth had I done to deserve all these? The little brat had the guts to pour water on me.
"Don't ever try this again," I yelled.
"What gave you the right to talk to me that way? I have told you that you don't deserve to be in this family, murderer. " she snapped.
My face darkened. Without thinking, I raised my hands to slap her. But before I could, someone caught my wrist midair.
I froze when I saw my dad. His face twisted in fury.
"How dare you raise your hands on her?" he thundered.
His grip tightened. I froze. He now wanted her, not me.
"D-Dad, she called me a murderer." I stammered.
He looked at me in disgust. And then, after a long pause, he said, "Are you not a murderer?"
I froze. His words echoed in my head. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out.
My father had finally agreed that I was a murderer. He had chosen her. They all believed that I was the cause of my mother's death. Tears streamed down my face as I remembered her face. I didn't want her to die. She went out to get medicine for me and then she never came back. Was it my fault? She had an accident and died.
I fell to the ground, wondering why I ended up falling sick.
"Ava, don't fake those tears and get ready to work." My dad said coldly, before walking away.
Alison stared at me, smirking. But I didn't care, all I wished was to leave the house for good. It was another day of tears.
It was evening already.
I got ready and left for the Silver Royale Hotel for my janitor job. My father's words still echoed in my head. It wasn't up to an hour when Henry, my ex-boyfriend, appeared. I frowned immediately. What was he looking for this time? The only person I hoped to see was the man from that night. But he hadn't since.
"Ava, I have been searching for you everywhere, " Henry said, as he walked towards me.
"What do you want this time? Haven't you done enough?" I asked calmly. Today was a bad day for me, from my dad to this. I wondered when I would ever be happy.
"Ava, I am sorry for what happened," he said, reaching out to touch my face.
"Don't touch me," I said angrily, moving backward.
"Don't act like you don't love me. The deed is done. It was just a simple mistake and we can still move on with our lives." He said those words as if it were so easy to forget.
I let out a bitter laugh. "I should forgive you after I caught you with my sister. It was a mistake. Is that all you could say?"
"What else do you want me to say? I only love you. She forced me into sleeping with her. I regret it so much. Please forgive me." he pleaded.
"Well, I really can't get back to you," I said, without hesitation.
"Why? Don't you love me anymore?" He asked, his voice rising.
"I don't Henry," I said, without a second thought.
His face changed.
"I knew it," he snapped. You have been cheating on me and making me look like I was wrong. After all the care I gave you, you still want to leave me. You will regret this Ava."
His voice was loud enough to draw the attention of the nearby guests.
And then, just like that, he stormed off. That was when Alison walked in.
What does she want this time? Why was everyone after me? Was she here to mock me?
I dropped the tray I was holding and faced her fully.
"How is work going?" she said, her voice thick with sarcasm.
"What do you want?" My face darkened as I asked.
"Follow me," she snapped. "My mum and dad want you home immediately."
I knew that arguing with her was a waste of time. So I followed her.
A silver car was parked outside the hotel, which was hers.
We got home without me saying a single word to her as she chatted and laughed with her friends while in the car.
It had never happened that I was called for a meeting. They made decisions for me without my consent.
I took my seat far away from the rest of the family.
"Mom and Dad have some exciting news for you..." Alison's voice chilled like she had been waiting for this news all her life.
With her expression, I already knew the news was certainly going to be bad.
"Get ready! You are getting married," the bomb was finally dropped.
What?!
