Chapter 2 Rebirth and Revenge

Light poured into the hospital room as the girl lying on the bed slowly opened her eyes.

A searing pain struck her head, forcing her brows to knit.

Dizziness was so overwhelming she nearly blacked out again.

Donna endured the agony, struggling upright to glance around. Her body ached as though it no longer belonged to her, and a violent cough bent her forward.

The sterile scent of disinfectant filled the room, confusing her. Hadn't she already passed away?

Where was this place?

Her hand reached instinctively for the phone beside her, eyes flicking to the screen,

The year: 2022.

Three years ago.

Donna's eyes widened in shock, her breath hitching in her throat.

That meant she had been reborn?

Before all the horrors of her previous life had unfolded?

Back when the corporation she and Andrew founded was still obscure in the industry, when Andrew still flattered her instead of cheating with her stepsister?

When she had yet to endure any torment, when her mother still held power in the family, and her father's mistress had not yet moved into their home?

Good. Very good.

Donna clenched her fists, pressing her lips into a hard line.

If fate had granted her this chance, she would seize it.

Everyone who had hurt her in her past life would pay dearly.

None of them would escape unscathed.

A cold laugh escaped her as she slowly rose to her feet.

Even as elation surged through her at this rebirth, even as her mind brimmed with countless schemes for vengeance, the hospital room door opened.

A stranger stepped in, his eyes flashing with disdain as they fell on Donna.

"So, you're awake? What trick are you playing this time?"

"Harming yourself just to get into the hospital and see me, don't you find that boring?"

He glanced at his watch, speaking lazily.

"I can only spare you five minutes at most, so if you have something to say, hurry up."

Then, under Donna's bewildered gaze, he gave a cold snort.

"Still not talking? What's wrong?"

"Cat got your tongue?"

Donna tilted her head, staring at the man in confusion.

"..."

Who is he?

This rude, ugly man, who on earth was he?

His small eyes and thin lips screamed unfaithfulness,

a Playboy through and through.

And now he dared to raise his voice at her.

Where did he get that kind of confidence?

She hadn't even expressed her irritation at his barging in to disturb her.

Donna curled her lips in disdain. She was never the meek type, and his arrogance quickly drained what little patience she had left.

"Who are you? Barging in here, talking nonsense?"

"Do we even know each other?"

"Shut up! Do you not realize you can't make a scene in a hospital?"

Donna pursed her lips in disgust, glaring at the man with obvious impatience.

That expression clearly startled Randor, though he quickly regained composure.

"So now you're pretending to have amnesia?"

"Bonnie, I've told you countless times, stop playing your cheap tricks to waste my time."

"And another thing, Fallon has been unwell lately. I'll be staying at her place to take care of her for a few days."

Randor's voice was indifferent, but his words carried a threat.

"Don't you dare run crying to my parents and cause trouble."

"That'll only make me hate you even more."

His cold tone made Donna laugh out of sheer anger.

Mistaking her for someone else and then scolding her?

This man was insane.

"Hey, what nonsense are you spouting? And who the hell is Fallon?"

"And another thing, if you're sick, then go get checked, don't sit here babbling and bothering me."

"This is a hospital, take a number and get examined instead of wasting time here!"

"Ugly and yet so talkative, clucking like a chicken, don't you find yourself annoying?"

"Get out."

Donna curled her lips, pointing toward the door. Randor's words made her head throb and spin. She only wanted him gone as quickly as possible.

This cold, indifferent attitude of Donna's had clearly provoked Randor. He grew furious, letting out a cold laugh.

"Fine, very good, Bonnie. You dare chase me away?"

"Good, so good."

"Then from now on, even if you kneel and beg, don't dream of me coming back."

With that, Randor flung the door open and stormed out.

The door slammed hard against the wall with a loud bang, making Donna instinctively furrow her brows.

She slammed her hand on the table in anger.

Was that man insane?

Talking like a madman, what a waste of time.

Donna pursed her lips, scoffing at the thought of kneeling.

If she ever did kneel, it would only be to beg him to get lost faster and never let her see that ugly face again.

Donna shrugged, stepping down from the bed to look in the mirror, wanting to admire her beauty from three years ago.

Since founding a business with that bastard Andrew, Donna had hardly cared for her appearance, often staying up late with him to finish work, a workaholic to the point of exhausting her health.

She had long forgotten just how beautiful she once was.

Donna approached the mirror, but when she caught sight of the face reflected back at her, she was so shocked she collapsed onto the floor.

"This can't be..."

Her face turned deathly pale, her head shaking again and again as she muttered under her breath.

Whose face was this?

It's not her face.

Donna's eyes widened as she forced herself up again to face the mirror,

reassuring herself that she must have only seen it wrong.

But no miracle appeared.

In the reflection was a girl with lustrous golden hair, large, round eyes, sharp with intensity, a high nose bridge, and soft, rosy lips.

At the corner of her eye, a small mole stood out.

Donna, dazed, reached up to touch her face.

The delicate,

velvety sensation under her fingertips left her stunned,

unable to even describe the flood of emotions within her.

Her mind was blank.

At that moment, another girl rushed in, her face etched with worry. Seeing Donna standing in front of the mirror, she exhaled in relief and hurried closer.

"Bonnie, you're awake. You nearly scared me to death."

"How could you be so foolish? Just because you found out that bastard Randor was cheating on you, you starved yourself for three days until you fainted."

"He won't regret anything just because you harm yourself, wake up already..."

The girl spoke while shaking Donna's shoulders endlessly, leaving her dazed as she tried to absorb the information. She blinked.

"What are you saying? Randor?"

"Who is he?"

Lily, bewildered, touched Donna's forehead and muttered,

"Bonnie, are you alright? You don't have a fever. Did starving yourself make you lose your memory?"

"Randor is your fiancé, the man you love so passionately."

"He just stormed out of here in anger, remember?"

"..."

Lily kept speaking, while Donna listened in silence, piecing everything together.

She was Bonnie, fiancée of Randor.

That very same ugly man from earlier.

And she, supposedly, loved Randor deeply, more than her own life.

The very thought sent chills crawling over Donna's skin.

"Insane."

"Completely insane..."

Donna whispered.

And then,

Overwhelmed, she fainted in shock.
