Chapter 4 4 - Foe or Mate

ADONIS POV

A half human robbed me!

I still could not wrap my head around the events of last night. But I had woken up this morning and found my protection pearl gone.

I knew it was a bad idea to go to a party with Fang to 'wind down' , but Fang had insisted and I gave in eventually.

Somehow I got drunk and ended up taking a half human to bed with me. A mistake I would never had made in my right mind.

And she ended up robbing me of my most precious possession.

I still reeked of her scent, no matter how much I had scrubbed my skin this morning, and it disgusted me. Humans always disgusted me.

I always knew humans were real monsters, but I expected half human to at least be a little decent compared to pure humans.

But I was wrong. Being half wolf made no difference. Their human gene is a disease And corrupted the wolf in them. Most half breeds live their entire lives without ever knowing what they truly were.

I will make sure this human pest pays dearly for daring to steal from me.

A strong bout of cough racked my body, squeezing the breathe out of my lungs. I spat into a handkerchief and stared at the blood stains.

This darned moon fever was draining the life out of me. The protection pearl was the one thing keeping me strong in spite of the moon fever and now it was gone.

"This should keep your lungs functioning until the protection pearl is found," Helga, the pack healer, said as she handed me a cup containing a brown liquid with an awful smell.

I hesitated as the awful smell filled my nostrils. And then in one gulp, I downed the liquid. The disgusting taste filled my mouth and throat, making me gag. But it soon became a distant memory as my lungs felt much better almost immediately.

I stared at the empty cup, as a question I did not want to know the answer played in my head.

Helga gave me a knowing look. Somehow she always knew what I was thinking even without me saying a word. "You only have a year at most, even with the pearl," she said in a sympathetic tone.

I nodded. "There is still hope. The cure can still be found before a year is up."

"But you have been searching for your mate for five years now. Maybe it's time, you appoint a new alpha to take over once you are gone."

I stood to my feet. "Thank you for the serum Helga. But I have other matters to attend to". And without waiting for a response I left.

I mounted my horse and rode back home in silence.

Helga may have given up on finding my mate, but I haven't. I will continue to search for, even till my last breath and I will find her.

When I finally find her, she will save me. I just have to extend my search to other packs in the West, even the underworld if need be. But I will find her.

That witch thought she could stop me by inflicting this cursed disease on me. But I will show her that no one can stand in my way, not even her. And once I am cured of this disease, I will take what is truly mine and no one will be able to stop me!

I patted my horse, Edgar, on the back as soon as I dismounted her. The best thing about Edgar was her glorious black skin and mane and she was as fierce as any wild horse you could find. It had taken me three months just to tame her.

Even now, no one else is still brave enough to mount Edgar, just me.

"Take care of my girl, Ty," I said to my ranchman.

"Yes Alpha," he nodded, taking her by the reins.

I watched Ty disappear with her into the stables before I left for the main house. There was still no news from Fang and I was becoming a bit worried.

Just before I got to the main building, I saw Fang, my beta, walking towards me. From the deadpanned look on his face, I could not tell if he was able to track down the pearl or not.

"And?" I asked.

"We found her," he handed the pouch to me. I snatched it almost immediately from him and touched the pearl. I felt its power almost immediately running through my body, filling my veins and strengthening my weak muscles.

I let out a sigh of relief.

"I knew I could count on you," I replied still out of breath. I returned the pearl into it pouch and strapped it to my belt holder.

"It was my fault you lost it in the first place," his lips curled up in a small smirk.

"Yea, that is certainly the last time I would be partying with you," I continued towards the main house.

"What about the girl?" Fang asked.

"Tie her to the pole and shoot her," I said with finality in my voice.

"I thought you would want to see her or something."

I glanced back at him. "I want nothing more to do with that filthy woman."

He nodded and headed towards the execution ground.

I almost made it to the main house when I felt a slight tug in my chest. I stopped abruptly, a grimace forming on my face.

I turned towards the direction of the execution ground. For some unexplainable reasons I felt the urge to go there.

I hesitated for a second and then started towards the ground. As I got closer, my wolf became very restless.

Could it be what I was thinking?

It couldn't be.

The only woman in that direction was that disgusting thief. So why am I feeling this overwhelming pull?

Mate! Nate, my wolf, howled.

Mate!

My eyes widened as I ran towards the ground. If their was a slight chance that the half human is my mate, I had to stop them before the killed my only hope of beating this cursed disease.

Boom!

I heard the gunshot fire.

"No!"
