"What is he doing here?" She thought. She faked a smile and maintained her composure cause immediately she saw his face she trembled a little bit out of nerve, suppressed anger and lots of mixed emotions.
Greg was the last person she'd expect to see in her house especially on a day like this, they'd been living in different space since the past eight months under the decree of the court, all their meetings has been with lawyers and law enforcement agencies personnel, the final seating in court before today was weeks back and the court had issued documents for both parties to sign to begin the divorce processes and as such, both parties were to sign the divorce documents separately at different locations. She walked past him as if she didn't see him and went straight to her lawyer and shook his hand.
"Good morning vee" Greg greeted to announce and verify his presence to be sure he wasn't invincible.
"Let's get this over with" she said without turning towards Greg's direction. Her guard drew out a seat for her and she sat. "Would you like some coffee?" She asked the lawyer.
Before he could answer she signalled to the maid to serve them.
"Let's commence with the signatories" she said with a final note in her tone, she was done and tired and eagerly couldn't wait for this to be over and finally she can drop the title of being Mrs Thompson, it was good while it last due to the benefits that came with it but the burden out weighed the benefits and it truly wasn't worth it.
"About that" the lawyer cleared his throat. "The other party has annulled the divorce entry, according to the legal marriage rites and terms, if the other party does not consent then the processes cannot begin. We are sorry Mrs Thompson."
Vanessa blinked hard to steady her vision cause the lawyer's words shook her off mental balance a bit, she wanted to be sure it's not her mind acting out her 'what ifs' in front of her and it now looked so real. But when she confirmed it wasn't imagination but reality, she furiously boiled with rage and anger but she did her best to keep her cool, she excused herself to the bathroom. As soon as she got there she couldn't stop the rage anymore, she punched the mirror and blood spilled from her cut and splashed on the ground and the basin.
The sound was heard in the sitting room. The guards and staff rushed to the bathroom but Greg stopped them and went instead to check on her.
When he got there he found her crying and shaking as blood dripped from her knuckles and the mirror cracked from the force of the punch. Immediately she saw him she wiped her eyes quickly.
"What are you doing here?" She asked in a teary tone.
"What have you done to yourself vee?" He reached for her hand but she drew back.
"It's fine. What are you doing here?"
"You'll get your answers as soon as you let me tend to your hand."
"My hand is fine, WHAT IN TWISTED WORDS ARE YOU DOING HERE?" She yelled.
He looked at her without responding, he saw an anger he'd never seen before. All their time as married couple, Vanessa has been a sweet devoted wife and never in a glimpse has she raised her voice before, what he's seeing now is very strange to him. He's turn her into a monster through his actions.
"Can we talk?"
"I'd rather bleed to death than listen to one word from you" she tried to walk past him but he held her arm, she stared at him with all the hate and pain in her heart.
Greg knew he done eff up whatever chances he thought he stood with Vanessa, she despised him now more than ever and there's no going back now.
"I'll sign the papers if you let me tend to your hand" he said.
"Fuck you and your conditions Greg, i've had enough of those, you reserve no right whatsoever to be feets close to me. You're signing those papers and that's final!" She stormed off.
After few minutes, Greg walked into the sitting room and sat at the table. Vanessa had clean up and looked ok now, she took deep relaxing breaths as soon as she saw Greg. Finally he'd sign the documents and it will be official, she can go and start off where ever she pleased and her life would be great again.
The lawyer cleared his throat and continued. "The reason for the other party's consent is stated in the papers and he insisted he would like to share that in person, Mr Gregory." The lawyer gave Greg the room to speak.
"The reason i conceited signing the document is because my wife Mrs Vanessa Knightly Gregory Simpson, is pregnant."
Vanessa laughed hard at his last statement. "Oh Greg, that is the most ridiculous statement i've heard all morning. Me, pregnant? How?" She continued laughing.
"It's true Mrs Gregory, it's written in the report that came back from the lab".
Few weeks before the divorce processes starts, both couples were asked to conduct natality test to ensure there's no existing heir(s) before they both become separated to prevent future bills and shares that may arise and terminate already existing documented agreements that affects financial bonds and trusts, and the test came back positive, Vanessa is with child.
"How in the world is that possible? The last time we had sex was eight nine months ago and i don't produce asexually. Unless you drugged me and planted a baby in me"
"Ma'am how it happened is non of the court's problems, the other party has conceited based on this reason and the court has paused the divorce process until the other party is ready to proceed with it. Thank you Mr and Mrs Greg, have a good day." He stood up and left.
