Chapter 5 THE PAINFUL REJECTION

Darius

I was fuming. This must be some sort of sick karma because of all people why did it have to be her? What had I ever done to offend the moon goddess that she had to do this to me? To give me this weak useless, liability as a mate. When I smelt her I was so happy. It was the most comforting scent I had smelt in my life, a mix of silver dew and wild lavender, coupled with an undertone of rose water. Leo's constant chanting of "mate" in my head sent me in a frenzy with only one mission in mind. To find her, and make her mine. I rushed after the scent hoping to find Marlene or anyone else, someone who was worthy to stand by my side, as Luna. Someone who will be able to defend the pack if when the time calls for it, but instead of a warrior, I got this. Ayla freaking Stable. She was my childhood crush, but she also turned out to be a useless omega who didn't even have a wolf. I couldn't have this, such a weak fucking person with no wolf by my side.

She looked broken as she scrambled to take my hand "Please I'm begging you don't do this to me. I'd do whatever you want I'll try to be stronger just don't leave me" she said and I pushed her off me

"Get off you fucking mutt!!!" I growled, because of the bond I really didn't want to see her hurt but this had to be done. I couldn't be tied to someone so weak, so completely incapable of defending either herself or the pack if the time came for it.

"You are pathetic, a disgrace weak and you think that you are worthy enough to be my mate? To be the Luna?" she didn't reply her eyes were bloodshot. The dress looked good on her, even with no makeup on she was far more beautiful than anyone else that was her, she was a goddess mesmerizing and all mine... No, fuck no! She could never be my mate, she was too weak.

"Please don't" she begged tears leaving from her eyes. She already knew what was going to happen. Hell even she knew that this had to be done, maybe in another life or if she was stronger, things would have been different. But she had to be a damn weak runt of an Omega

"I Alpha Darius Vale of the Blood Fang Pack reject you, Ayla Stable as my mate... You're pathetic" I said, with no emotion in my. There were loud gasps around us followed by whispers all around.

A piercing scream burst out of her mouth. She clutched her chest tightly tears pouring from her eyes in their torrents. The pain was probably more excruciating for her since I was the one that broke the bond and not the other way around. I should have felt bad about this but I didn't even flinch. She was weak, nothing if not a liability. I ignored my wolf's howling in my head, scorning me for rejecting our mate. He didn't understand it now but he would when the time comes. Having Ayla as a mate was going to doom us all in the nearest future. She wouldn't be up to the task she could barely function as a normal wolf, not to talk of perform accordingly as a Luna of our pack. After a few pained howls from my wolf, he disappeared, retreating somewhere into the deepest parts of my consciousness.

"Now get out of my sight. You embarrassment" I spat.

She looked up at me her eyes were dead, the most emotionless I've ever seen her. The look on her eyes was empty. Her eyes looked dead, like she had completely given up. "I accept your rejection" she said coldly. I felt the pain of our bond breaking, shattering into nothingness. My wolf howled in pain, the pain of losing the other half that he didn't even get to meet. That was the only sound my wolf made before disappearing back into my mind. I dare not show it though, I couldn't afford to show any emotion. I was Alpha, I couldn't afford to show any emotion. With that she turned and ran. The rest of the pack members were murmuring, hurling insults her way. Some were against what I had done but didn't dare say it. I turned to everyone with a stern look "get back to the party" I said and the crowd dispersed, going back to their little groups. The music came on again and things continued like nothing ever happened.

I went on a hunt for Marlene. When I finally found her in the crowd, she stood staring into thin air, with a distant look on her face. "Marlene we have to talk" I said and she jerked back into reality. "What is it?" she asked. We hadn't really talked since our earlier quarrel.

"I know that you're not really happy with me right now but I need to ask have you found your mate." I asked. A beat of a second passed before she shook her head "no. it seems like the moon goddess thinks I'm pretty unlovable" she said with a sad look on her face. "God, I waited so long so sure that you'd be mine. I mean we've been through a lot together but then..." she trailed off turning away from me, she probably didn't want me to get a glimpse of her weakness.

"Marlene"

I called out and "what is it?" she asked still facing her back to me "Look at me please" I said and she turned to me.

I took her two hands in mine "will you be my Luna?" I asked and she looked at me mouth agape. I didn't blame her though this was a fucking uncanny request to make.

"Do you know what you're saying" she said and I nodded. "Look I know things may not be ideal but I really need you. I'll treat you right" I said and she nodded "Yes. I'll be your mate" she said and I gave her a ghost of a smile "thanks babe" I said and bent down slightly to capture he lips in a deep kiss. Marlene engulfed me in a hug "I love you Darius" she said and I smiled at her "me too."

"Alpha" my Beta Christopher said, breaking the moment between Marlene and i. "I swear to the moon goddess Christopher if it's not important" I said. "The Alpha requests to see you and your mate" he said. "Ok" I replied and he bowed and turned to go.

"Cristopher?" I called out "Yes Alpha?" he asked "Did you meet your mate?" I asked and he shook his head "it seems the moon goddess doesn't have a mate for me this year." He said sadly. "Don't give up Christopher probably she just isn't eighteen yet" I said.

"Right" he replied and bowed his head slightly in respect and with that he was gone. What the fuck was that?
