Chapter 4 One Night Regret: Claimed By The Don: 04

Catherine:

It took from me another half hour before I finally step out of the room, my knees barely holding me, and I can't even take one steady step downstairs.

"My favorite new girl!" The old lady says. She's standing at the reception, her makeup is different from last night, and the smile that's covering her face makes me realize she got a nice payment because of me, or else why would she call me her favorite new girl?

"If you need a shower, new clothes..." She starts, but I shoot her one deadly glare, making her smile vanishing.

"Someone is grumpy" She stops chewing gum then starts walking toward me all of a sudden.

"Why didn't you stop it? You knew I was drunk!" I say, on the verge of tears. She opens her mouth to say something, but I only walk away from her, not giving her the chance to defend herself.

I can hear her cursing under her breath, but all I do is point my middle finger toward her without turning back to look at her.

I can't believe there are actually horrible women who are willing to sacrifice other innocent women!

My feet drag me outside the dirty place, the place where I lost my virginity at, and the place where it cost me everything!

I tighten my grip around my little purse, as if the money inside it will fly away. I wonder if this amount will save my mother, and pay the huge bills waiting for me.

I reach for my phone to call the hospital and ask about my mother, but I'm shocked to see that my phone died. My eyes almost pop out of their sockets as I realize this could be the end of the world. What if they called me again and couldn't reach for me? What if something bad happened to my mother?

I freeze, my eyes scanning the empty, calm street for any cab, but it's early in the morning and I don't think I can even find any cab at the moment.

After ten minutes of running, I finally manage to catch a cab and head straight to the hospital, praying and hoping I'm not late, that my mother is awake from her surgery, and that she survived.

As soon as the cab stops in front of the hospital grand entrance, I open the door and jump out, not even thinking I have time to pay the driver. "Can you please wait here?" I plead, and he simply nods in understanding.

My feet carry me inside the hospital, heading straight to the lady at the reception, grabbing the money from my purse, I don't hesitate for a moment on throwing them on the counter.

"Miss...please..." She starts to calm me, but I don't even listen to her.

"It's Catherine Moretti, my mother is a patient in here, and they told me she needs an urgent surgery" I explain to her, I give her the information and watch her as she starts typing on the computer.

"It says here you still didn't pay..." She says with a sad look on her face.

"Here" I point to the money on the counter, "We owe you three thousand...but after last night surgery, the total will be nine thousand" She says, her eyes still fixed on the computer screen, as if she feels it's an awkward timing to ask me to pay.

I count the money to realize it's not only enough for the bill, but to cover all our debts...Seriously, who's that guy? Starting to think I might've slept with the president's son.

My eyes are staring at the void for a few moments before realizing that the receptionist is still waiting for me to pay.

After I pay, the receptionist provides me with more information, such as where I can possibly find my mother and what floor her surgery is on.

I sit on the bench outside and start to wait impatiently, worry is eating me alive as I keep replaying last night. I cover my face and I suddenly remember his black features, his dark eyes staring down at me.

I suddenly gulp nervously, what the fuck is happening to me? Why can't I just let this go? It's just a one night thing, he's from Italy, and I'm aware of the fact that our paths will never cross again!

Then why am I still thinking about it? I run my fingers through my hair, shaking the stupid memories away. Lots of girls lose their virginity this way, what's the big deal?

It's not a big deal...I continue to convince myself, but it's still doesn't feel right. That's why last night is going to be my secret, a secret no one will ever find out about.

My eye suddenly spots a strange guy from afar, wearing black and holding his phone. That's not even the weirdest part, because he was staring at me, and once my eyes catch him looking, he all of a sudden turns his head to the opposite direction, avoiding looking at me.

I frown, and I suddenly start to stand from the bench, my feet driving me toward him. "Are you following me?" I shoot before I even get closer to him.

The guy freezes for a few seconds before he hands me the phone. "It's for you..." He says, a serious look on his face as I hesitate for a moment before reaching out for the phone.

I place the phone on my ear, but once I do, my heart starts pounding, and I freeze at my spot. "My sweet daughter..." His voice sends terror in me as I start to breath heavily.

"What do you want?" I freak out, but I keep my voice cold and sharp.

"You're my daughter, what could I possibly want?" His voice is all of a sudden soft, but I don't buy it, he definitely wants something.

"Stop stalking me, I'm no longer your daughter..." I remind him, since I already gave up his family name.

"Giving up my name doesn't change the fact I'm your father, accept that!" He yells over the phone, but I take a deep breath, calming myself.

"We don't need you, not anymore!" I say, but he laughs once he hears my words.

"We'll see about that" His threatening tone makes me even angrier, so I hung up and throw the phone hard to the ground, watching it shatter into pieces.

As soon as I look around me, I'm surprised to see the guy who just gave me the phone has already disappeared, leaving me by myself.

Just as I'm about to sit back on the bench, I watch the doctor stepping out of the surgery room, his pale face makes me more worried and terrified.

"Doctor, how was the surgery?" I run to him, but he shakes his head silently, making my frown deepens.

"I'm sorry, we couldn't save her...It was too late" The doctor says the words, leaving me frozen on the same spot, still can't process his words, what does he mean?

My knees can't hold me anymore, my whole body is all of a sudden sliding on the floor, a few tears falling down as I still denying the ugly truth, the fact that my mother left, she couldn't make it, she didn't survive! The only person that's left for me, she's gone...
