Catherine:
The old lady rolls her eyes at me, "Whatever..." She shrugs, before stepping inside, seeming a bit annoyed about my decision.
I kind of feel bad for turning down such great opportunity, I mean I'm really that desperate to get money, but the thought of mom finding out about this?
I take a deep breath as I continue to walk away from the nasty place, watching a few other men stepping in. Just the thought of the reason they're going in makes me disgusted and happy that I didn't step inside.
I pause when my phone suddenly starts ringing, my hand instantly starts looking for it inside my purse. I frown before my eyes spot the caller ID.
I roll my eyes as I decide to pick up. "Guess who's back to town?" Kim says, her high pitched tone makes me smile.
"You? I thought you said you're coming next week!" My surprised tone makes her silent for a few moments before she finally laughs nervously.
"Well, not anymore...especially when my best friend is going through a hard time" She says, reminding me of my mom.
The smile suddenly vanishes from my face. "Cat? Are you there?" Her tone holds concern as she waits for my response.
"Yeah..." I say, my voice barely audible.
Kim has been my best friend since high school, she knows about everything I had to go through...all of my secrets, and the strong relationship I have with my mom.
Even though I moved out, however we stayed in touch for the past few years, that's what makes our friendship so precious to me.
"I'll be waiting for you at Sol's" Kim says, but I shake my head. "I don't think food is what I need right now..." I sigh.
"Alright then...what is the closest bar near to you?" She questions seeming worried all of a sudden.
I look back and forth, my eyes scanning the buildings surrounding me. "I guess the dime?" I answer her, still unsure.
"Alright, I'm on my way, just wait for me inside" She hangs up before I even respond to her.
Kim has already lend me a lot of money, asking from her to lend me more won't be right! I take a deep breath and start to make my way toward the closest bar, The Dime.
It's been half an hour since I got inside The Dime, I even ordered two drinks, two strong drinks. But Kim is still nowhere to be seen.
I check my phone for the ninth time since I got into this place, wondering if my best friend just forgot about me, and decided to fool around in this huge city.
"Hey you..." Kim's voice suddenly attires my attention. My head snaps toward her direction, and it's only a matter of a few seconds before she rushes toward me, and pulled me into the tightest hug.
"I'm sorry I'm late, it's kind of late and it was so hard to find a cab!" Her apology makes me realize I've put her through so much, isn't she the nicest friend?
"Come on, I'll buy you a drink!" I invite her to sit on the chair beside me.
"Are you sure it's okay? I mean..." She points toward the two empty glasses on the counter.
"Oh..." I laugh sarcastically at her. "Come on, don't be silly..." I say, watching her smiling goofily at me.
"I mean, do you remember how much I used to drink at parties?" I say, and she only stifles a giggle as I call out the bartender and start to order our drinks.
"Maybe some other day" She says, making me frown, and just as I'm about to insist, I spot the ring on her finger.
"Oh my god..." I say, gasping as I reach for her finger. She smiles excitedly at me.
"It's even more beautiful in reality! That is the most beautiful engagement ring!" I say, and she only nods excitedly.
"I still can't believe you and Fill are engaged! I mean, it all happened too fast!" I say, watching her smile grow bigger.
"I mean you're not pregnant, are you?" I tease, but her smile vanishes all of a sudden.
I gape from the shock, placing my hand on my mouth, "Oh my god..." I say, but she shakes her head in annoyance.
"No, I'm not...actually that's what I wanted to talk to you about" Her voice is suddenly sad, seeming so crashed all of a sudden.
"I can't give birth..." She blurts, her eyes full of tears.
"What? No, don't say that...I mean, I'm aware of the huge responsibility, and the horrible changes your body will go through..." I start, but the serious look on her face makes me realize what her words meant.
"No, Cat...I can't give birth, there's something wrong with me" She explains further.
"It's what all the doctors confirm" She adds, her voice is now trembling with tears. "I guess I'll be drinking more than you will tonight" She lets out another tear as I reach for her and embrace her.
"I'm so sorry..." I cry, as we both continue to hug each other.
"It's okay, Fill understands me...He accepted me the way I am, he even said we can adopt" Another tear escapes her eyes. Watching her like this breaks my heart.
Kim and I continue to drink, but that didn't last long, because her fiancé appeared all of a sudden and took her to the hotel they're staying at.
He offered me a ride but I refused, I can't interrupt their first night together in this beautiful city...
I sigh, taking another drink, thinking of everything...
Even my father decided to show up, showing he still cares about my mother, but I know I can't accept his help, my mother would rather die before I take a dollar from him.
I'd rather sell my body before accepting his help! Do I need the money? Yes! Am I that desperate? Hell yeah! But am I ready to ask for his help? No fucking way!
"Miss?" The bartender suddenly says. "What?" I say annoyingly, shooting him a deadly glare.
"We're closing..." He says with a sad smile. I stand from my chair, a deep breath escaping my lips. "Can I at least take this with me?" I say, holding the bottle in my hand.
The bartender stares at me for a few seconds before nodding. "Do you need me to call anyone? Maybe a cab?" He offers, but I only smirk at him, "I'm not that drunk!" I say with a loud laugh before stepping outside the bar.
I continue to walk down the street, some guys whistling as I pass by them, but I don't even bother or react instead I laugh very hard at their stupid taste, they don't even know who I am, they don't know I'm a mafia boss' daughter...
My eyes suddenly are blinded by the sudden red lightening on top of my head, the same sign I've passed by earlier. 'For Gentlemen Only' I smirk, remembering the old lady's offer.
I start laughing so hard this time, not at the lady's offer, but at my stupid decisions, and my huge stupid pride! Why didn't I just do it? Why didn't I say yes to that lady?
My phone starts to ring again, the ringtone makes me even more annoyed and pissed. I panic as soon as I see the hospital's number on the screen.
"Hello? Miss Moretti, we're calling you at this late hour because your mother needs an urgent surgery, but unfortunately... You still haven't pay for our service" The nurse says with a sad tone.
I let out a deep breath, closing my eyes, a tear falling down..."I'll pay tomorrow..." I say, opening my eyes and staring right at the old lady who's now standing outside the house of pleasures, a wide smile on her face, welcoming me inside, and after that everything is blur...
