Chapter 2 Five years later

Five years later...

"William, you two should try harder. We both want grandchildren from you so badly."

Mrs. Miranda, William's mother, a 56-year-old woman, had been yearning for a grandchild in the midst of her family-the heir who would take William's place in the future.

"Mommy, is there nothing else to talk about?" William was tired of the demands from his parents.

"Nothing is more important right now than Caterine's pregnancy. Your wife must get pregnant as soon as possible." A little pushy, Miranda asked her son-in-law to try even harder.

"I'm sorry, Mommy and Daddy. I haven't been able to give you what you want."

Caterine felt very guilty; it had been five years since she and William had been married. However, up until this moment, they had not been able to give William's parents a grandchild. She didn't know what sins she had committed in the past; God was punishing her by not giving her the chance to be a mother.

She and William were in an arranged marriage arranged by both of their extended families. Caterine herself was the daughter of William's parents' best friend and business partner. William, who never brought his girlfriend home to meet his parents, made Miranda and James decide to find a wife for their son.

Caterine is a woman who is very suitable to accompany William, who has a hard character and is difficult to manage. Caterine, who is loving and gentle, can compensate for William's hard attitude. As evidenced by the fact that five years have passed, their household is fine and looks harmonious, fulfilling the hopes and dreams of both families.

"Caterine, Mommy and Daddy didn't mean to make you sad." Miranda gently rubbed Caterine's back. "We just want you to try harder. Do everything you can to have a child. If necessary, allow William to find another woman who can carry his child."

"Mom...." Caterine shook her head softly; she did not expect that her in-laws would think so far ahead like that.

"What Miranda said is true. It doesn't matter whose womb the child is born from; what matters is that William has a successor who is his own flesh and blood." James agreed with what Miranda said. They could hire a woman to conceive and give birth to William's child.

"I disagree, Mom, Dad. No matter what, I don't want William to have another woman besides me. I don't want to!" Caterine firmly refused; she loved William very much and did not want to share her husband with another woman.

Until then, Caterine would not agree to the advice of her parents-in-law. There were still many ways they could find a solution to the problems they were facing. Caterine would try even harder to get pregnant as soon as possible.

William didn't really bother to think about the requests of his parents. From the moment he decided to marry Caterine, he didn't truly mean it. Everything that happened in his life during these five years was organized by Miranda, who managed whatever William had to do.

Five years ago, when Miranda and James asked him to return home, a marriage was prepared for him that he could not refuse. His parents chose Caterine as the woman who would accompany him, and William could not refuse what Miranda and James had decided.

"William, tell them that you don't want to look for another woman. Tell them that we will try even harder so that I can get pregnant as soon as possible." Caterine held her husband's arm; she knew William was of the same mind as her, and her husband would obviously refuse the request of his parents.

"I can't do anything, Caterine. I leave all decisions to Mommy and Daddy. Let them manage everything."

"So you agree with their decision?"

Caterine looked at William with teary eyes. Her hopes were dashed in the blink of an eye. She thought that William would reject Miranda's crazy thoughts. But in fact, William seemed to support his parents' wishes.

"I have no reason to refuse their request. In fact, I have done so since the beginning." William looked at his parents, implying a hurt that was not conveyed directly to either of them.

"You heard it yourself, Caterine. William has agreed to find a woman to carry his child, and you must agree to that as well." Miranda smiled.

"This is only temporary, Caterine. The woman will only conceive and give birth. Once her job is done and we pay her for her work, then she will be gone from your lives forever. That way, you will have a child, and our family will have a successor who is the flesh and blood of my son, William."

Caterine shook her head; whatever the reason was, she still did not agree with her in-laws' decision. As William's wife, she had the right to reject the decision. Caterine would not allow any other woman to enter into her domestic relationship with William. Not without reason; Caterine did not want to do it all. Until today, she had not been able to succeed in getting William's love.

With the presence of a new woman in her and William's household, Caterine was afraid that the woman would snatch her husband, especially since William would often meet the woman later. Caterine was afraid that she would slowly be removed from William's life forever.

"I'm sorry, Mommy and Daddy. As William's wife, I strongly object to your decision. I will never agree to my husband having another woman other than me as his wife." Caterine stood up; she better go inside the room. The longer she was with her in-laws, the crazier Caterine would be made by Miranda and James.

"Sit down, Caterine. We haven't finished talking yet." Miranda ordered Caterine to sit back in her seat.

"No, Mom! No matter what Mommy and Daddy want to say, I will never change my decision! I don't want William to have any other woman besides me as his wife." For the umpteenth time, Caterine emphasized that she was the only woman in William's life. There was no other woman.

"Caterine, wait!"

Caterine ignored Miranda's shout; she walked quickly towards her room. However, suddenly her head felt very dizzy. Her vision looked blurry. Caterine held her head for a second, and then the woman fell down because she couldn't keep her balance.

"Caterine!"

"Caterine!"

Miranda, James, and William ran over to Catherine. The woman had fallen on the floor and was unconscious.
