"Congratulations, Mr. William. Your wife is now pregnant. She is only 4 weeks along." The young doctor congratulated him on the happy news he had just delivered.
"Thank you, doctor. How is Caterine's condition now? Have we been able to see her?" William was at a loss for how to express his feelings.
"Mrs. Caterine will be moved to the infirmary. For the time being, Mrs. Caterine must be admitted to this hospital so that we can monitor her condition and the fetus in her womb," the doctor explained in detail to William about Caterine's pregnancy.
"Do your best, doctor."
Honestly, William was not ready to be a father. Caterine's pregnancy was not on his life list. He also didn't bother too much when his wife couldn't give him a child.
Life as it is now is better for William; Catrine is not too demanding of him to be what she wants him to be. However, it would be different if they already had children. Forever, William would be bound to Catrine because of the child that his wife would give birth to.
"William, how is Catrine? She's fine, right?" Miranda and James had just arrived at the hospital. They came later because they had to prepare Catrine's belongings to be brought to the hospital.
"The doctor said that Catrine is currently pregnant. She is 4 weeks along." With a sad face, William told Miranda and James about Catrine's condition.
"Catrine is pregnant? Are you serious?" Miranda's happy face radiated clearly after hearing the news delivered by William.
"Yes, Mommy."
Miranda covered her mouth with both hands; the happy news had finally come. The sole heir of her family would soon be present, and Miranda could not wait for the birth of her first grandchild.
"Now, where is Catrine? Mommy wants to meet her; Mommy feels so guilty for making her sad." Miranda really regretted her behavior at home towards Catrine.
"Catrine will be moved to the infirmary. She will have to stay at the hospital for the next few days. The doctor will monitor the progress of Catrine's health and also the fetus in her womb," William explained what the doctor had said to Miranda and James.
Miranda was very supportive of Catrine having to be in the hospital for the next few days. Catrine was about to give birth to her first grandchild, and Miranda did not want anything bad to happen to her daughter-in-law and future grandchild.
"Give the best for your wife and your future child, William. Mommy wants you to do whatever Catrine wants; don't put her in a bad mood because it will affect the fetus that Catrine is carrying."
William only replied with eye gestures to what Miranda had just said. He was not sure he could be the husband his mother wanted him to be.
Catrine had been moved to the inpatient room, and the family was able to see her. Miranda immediately hugged her daughter-in-law and kissed both of Catrine's cheeks in turn.
"What's wrong, Mommy? You seem very happy?" Catrine was confused by Miranda's attitude.
"Honey, forgive Mommy and Daddy. We both have hurt your heart. Mommy asked William to find another woman, even though you are the perfect woman who deserves to accompany my son, William."
Catrine smiled, her face looking very pale.
"Mommy and Daddy are not wrong. I'm the one who's wrong; I shouldn't be selfish as a daughter-in-law. Mommy is right; William needs a successor. I agree if William finds another woman to carry and give birth to his child." Catrine did not want to bury the dream of her in-laws, who desperately wanted a grandchild in their midst.
Catrine finally realized that she had a flaw that could not be covered up with anything. In the end, she had to be heartened to let her husband have another woman, even if it was only for a short while.
"No, Catrine. Mommy and Daddy are taking our words back," Miranda shook her head.
"That's right, Catrine. You don't have to sacrifice for us because that successor will soon be born from your own womb," James also felt bad for his son-in-law.
"What does Daddy mean?" Catrine couldn't quite digest what James and Miranda were saying.
"You're pregnant, baby. Finally, the five-year wait has come to fruition. Soon, you will give birth to the successor of our family," Miranda delivered the happy news that Catrine didn't know yet.
Instantly, Catrine's facial expression changed. There was a feeling that could not be explained in words. Was it true that she was now pregnant, as Miranda had just said?
Catrine looked at William; her husband had been silent until now. William just stood nearby with his hands folded over his stomach.
"William, is it true what Mommy Miranda said? Am I really pregnant?" Catrine still couldn't believe that she was pregnant.
"Yes, Catrine. You are indeed pregnant right now," William nodded, confirming what Catrine had just said.
"Oh God, I can't believe this. I'm really pregnant."
Catrine's eyes glazed over; finally, the long wait had come to fruition. She felt very happy now; she could finally give William's parents what they wanted.
Catrine rubbed her flat stomach, feeling touched because she had finally achieved what she had wanted for a long time. This happy day should have come a long time ago; Catrine had been too foolish to wait five years to realize her dream.
"William, where are you going?" Catrine held onto her husband as he moved from where he stood.
This was their happy day, and Catrine wanted William to be with her and keep her company the whole time.
"I have important things to take care of. You be with Mommy and Daddy for a while." William looked at Catrine expressionlessly. "Take good care of your womb. If you want anything, just tell Mommy."
"Yes, dear, but you can't stay away for long. I don't want to be away from you, William."
As usual, William only replied with a slow nod of his head. He left Catrine's room, leaving his wife to be looked after by Miranda and James, as the two couples were the happiest at the news of Catrine's pregnancy.
William walked down the hospital corridor; he didn't really have any important business. Right now, he needed peace. It was very difficult to accept the fact that Catrine had to be pregnant when he was not ready to be a father.
"Why do I have to be trapped in a life like this?" William complained about the fate that had befallen him, his parents' arranged marriage binding him to a woman he did not want.
"I'm sorry."
William was walking in an uncertain direction; he didn't even realize he had bumped into a woman. He extended his hand, helping her to stand up.
"You!"
Sharp eyes looked at William with a hateful gaze. She saw William's figure in front of her like a very dangerous monster.
