Chapter 4 Glowing Face

Serena smirked as she saw their reaction.

She was very satisfied with it.

She hadn't searched for an outfit that long just to get a weak response.

The novel's Serena had no sense of style, so she had to dig around to find something worth wearing.

She made a mental note to overhaul the entire wardrobe.

She wore a baggy cardigan, shorts, and pink bunny slippers-looking adorably casual.

When she entered the living room fully, she cleared her throat, snapping the four people out of their momentary awe.

Nathan Vale seemed to suddenly remember his anger, which had briefly faded when he saw her. She looked so much like her mother-but that wasn't the point.

"How dare you come only now?" Nathan shouted, his rage renewed as he glared at her.

Rose, seated beside him, beamed with undisguised joy when she heard him shout.

She had feared he might let her off the hook after seeing that glowing face.

When did that wretched girl get more beautiful?

Rose's fleeting joy was quickly replaced with fury.

She, too, glared at Serena with open hatred.

Serena, however, ignored Nathan and found a seat far from the trio and their loyal servant.

She sat down, crossed her legs, and finally looked up at her "father."

She smiled sweetly and said, "Oh my... Mr. Vale, you're quite loud-just like Martha. Is lacking basic manners a family trait?"

Nathan was truly enraged this time.

This disrespectful girl not only refused to acknowledge him as her father or answer his question, but she had also just implied he was uncivilized.

He was stunned by her sharp tongue.

Rose and her son were stunned.

Even Martha was stunned.

Serena had always been timid. When did she become so bold and sharp-tongued?

Seeing the looks on their faces, Serena was pleased-but she kept a curious expression on the surface.

She was a Best Actress for a reason.

Nathan pointed at her, trembling with fury, stammering, "You... you..."

He collected himself and, still angry, said, "What is this I read? You're in the entertainment industry?"

Serena put on a shocked expression. "Mr. Vale, where did you hear such a thing?"

Technically, she was no longer part of the entertainment industry-she had no contract, no manager.

So she decided to gaslight them a little.

Hearing her call him "Mr. Vale" again made Nathan want to strike her.

"I am your father, not 'Mr. Vale.' And I read it in an article," he snapped, clearly not buying her deflection.

"You stopped being a father figure to me a long time ago, so it's natural to call you Mr. Vale. And as for the article-you're old enough not to believe everything you read online," she replied coolly.

At that moment, Rose saw the growing tension and stepped in as a supposed mediator.

"Serena dear, your father only wants what's best for you. Please try to understand him," she said gently, though the hatred in her eyes didn't match her voice.

Serena acted like she hadn't heard her. She kept her gaze locked on Nathan.

Seeing that she wouldn't yield, Nathan sighed in disappointment.

"I told you to forget about entering the entertainment industry. The waters there are deep," he said after a moment.

Serena smiled and leaned back in the armchair.

"You don't need to worry, Mr. Vale. I'm well aware the industry's waters are deep. But I'm venturing in-whether you approve or not. It's not like you care about me. Why the sudden concern?" she said steadily.

Her voice was calm, mature-like a full-grown adult's.

Which made sense, considering she was thirty when she got transmigrated here.

Thinking about her real life filled her with regret, but she didn't let it show.

She was entering the entertainment industry again-whether they liked it or not.

She would reclaim her past glory.

Just thinking about it gave her joy, though her face remained composed.

After she finished, she studied Nathan's reaction. It was exactly what she expected-not good.

"What do you mean I don't care for you? Are you trying to air the Vale family's dirty laundry in public?" Nathan thundered.

The more this insolent girl spoke, the worse it got.

As he shouted, Serena casually covered her ears.

Rose was furious, but she couldn't show it-if she cracked now, the act she'd kept up for a decade would fall apart.

She simply gritted her teeth in silence.

Still, she was pleased. The rift between Nathan and Serena had widened.

At this rate, Serena might not inherit anything-her own son would be the sole heir of the Vale family.

She glanced at Noah.

Unfortunately, the whole drama in the living room didn't interest him at all-he was still glued to his phone.

She looked at him affectionately, then turned her glare back to Serena.

Serena, still covering her ears, responded, "Mr. Vale, could you please stop shouting? You're starting to sound like Martha again. And if you sound like her, that makes you a shrew-and I'm sure that's not the image you want. Try speaking like a civilized person. You're the chairman of Vale Group, after all, yet you shout like some alley brawler."

She said it all with clear amusement.

This man was a terrible father.

Serena was sure Nathan was more upset about her scandal threatening the Vale-Reid engagement than anything else.

His concern was all self-interest.

Once again, Nathan trembled with rage.

"Are you insulting your father? Where do you get the nerve? Kneel down! I'll use the family law on you. This behavior must be corrected!" he shouted.

Martha, without needing a cue, hurried off to fetch the whip and board for the family law.
