Chapter 7 Encounter at the Hospital

The rear window rolled down, revealing half of Katelyn's fair face, with a faint handprint still visible.

Katelyn said, "Miss Gill, are you just getting off work? Would you like Vincent's driver to give you a ride home?"

Before Katherine could respond, Katelyn added, "I left my bag in Vincent's office. Vincent was too tired to go out, so he asked the driver to bring me back to pick it up."

What a conveniently vague explanation.

Unfortunately for Katelyn, Katherine knew Vincent well enough to understand that his stamina could keep her up all night; he definitely wasn't staying in because he was tired.

Katherine looked at Katelyn as if she were a clown, a mocking smile playing on her lips.

Katelyn struggled to keep her emotions in check, her expression unchanged, but her hands resting on her lap clenched into fists.

At that moment, the driver got out of the car, walked around the front, and approached Katherine.

He nodded in greeting, "Miss Gill, the previous car broke down, and this is Mr. Murphy's new car. I was delayed picking it up. Please get in, and I'll go upstairs to fetch Miss Todd's things, then take you back to Maple Villa."

Hearing this, Katherine was a bit surprised.

She had thought the driver not picking her up was Vincent's doing.

She quickly shook her head at the driver, her face returning to its usual polite smile, "No need, Carl. You go get the things. I'll just take a cab."

Upon hearing this, Carl immediately ran to the roadside, hailed a taxi, and opened the door for Katherine.

Katelyn watched the entire exchange through the rearview mirror, barely able to hide her fury.

So, Katherine was indeed Vincent's lover!

Why, after thirteen long years, could she still not rid herself of Katherine?

The taxi headed towards Maple Villa.

Midway, it suddenly turned and eventually brought Katherine to Sacford's largest private hospital-Sacford Health Hospital.

Sacford Health Hospital is a high-end facility combining medical care and rehabilitation, similar to a private clinic with luxury amenities.

Two years ago, Katherine had transferred her brother, Nolan, to this hospital and rented a place nearby for their mother, Emily.

Katherine had arranged a meeting with the doctor a few days ago to discuss Nolan's surgery today.

She first went to the ward to visit her brother, Nolan.

She didn't stay long before declining Emily's offer to accompany her, heading alone to the conference room where the doctor had told her to meet.

The conference room was on the other side of the hospital.

To arrive on time, Katherine decided to take a shortcut through the medical department.

Unexpectedly, as she reached the medical building, she caught a glimpse of a familiar figure at the end of the corridor.

It was Katelyn!

Katherine's heart tightened.

After the accident years ago, everyone thought her brother was beyond saving.

For years, she and her mother had kept it a secret, not letting anyone from the Todd family know that her brother was still alive.

If Katelyn discovered her brother's secret, Katelyn's mother, Miranda, would surely cause trouble for them!

Although there was no evidence, Katherine and her mother were convinced that Nolan's accident was no mere mishap.

Miranda, in her pursuit of wealth and status, had no qualms about targeting a five-year-old child. What wouldn't she do?

Katherine clutched her bag tightly and resolutely followed in the direction Katelyn had disappeared.

She needed to find out why Katelyn was at this hospital and whether she knew about her brother's secret!

Katherine kept a careful distance, watching as Katelyn entered one of the wards.

To find out who was inside, Katherine approached, trying to eavesdrop through the door.

"How are you feeling? Does your head still hurt?" Katelyn asked Vincent, who was sitting on the hospital bed.

Earlier that morning, Vincent had brought her to the hospital for a sprain check-up. As he was leaving, he suddenly felt dizzy and nearly fell.

It was only after hearing the driver's explanation to the doctor that she learned Vincent hadn't picked her up from the airport as planned because he'd been in an accident.

Katelyn believed Vincent had the accident because of her and had delayed his treatment to accommodate her, leaving her both touched and guilty. She stayed at the hospital to care for him.

Vincent, guessing Katelyn had misunderstood, didn't bother to explain.

In response to her concern, he replied in a low voice, "I'm fine."

Just as he finished speaking, a voice came from outside the door, "Miss, are you going in?"

A nurse then entered, and there was no sign of anyone else outside.

Curious, Katelyn asked, "Who was just outside?"

The nurse replied honestly, "I don't know, just a very pretty lady."

Hearing the word 'pretty, ' Katelyn frowned slightly.

Beside her, Vincent narrowed his eyes thoughtfully.

...

Katherine quickly hid in a nearby storage room.

Leaning against the door, her mind replayed the voice she had just heard.

Though brief, she was certain it was Vincent's voice.

So, the person in that ward was Vincent, and he was sick, yet she, his executive assistant, didn't know?

Katherine frowned slightly, glancing at her watch repeatedly. After waiting a full five minutes, she turned and opened the door.

A tall figure blocked the entrance.

Looking up, who else could it be but Vincent?
