Chapter 2 Debts and their Pressure

The girl said walking out of the room, he dressed the curtains and left. Jade smiled at her, she was grateful for the help she rendered she pulled off her jacket and dusted up the bed before lying down. The girl excused herself and left her to rest. Jade heaved a sigh and turned to the other side of the room. They was alot on her mind she didn't want to do this job, because of how risky it seemed, she didn't even know what the work was all about but the pay was good and she needed the money, she will literally do anything regarding how desperate she was.

She had debtors going around And looking for her, it wasn't just an ordinary debt and she have to pay with her body. Her house have already been placed as conleteral, she took another deep breath and drifted off to sleep.

THE PREVIOUS DAY;

At exactly noon, loud voice was heard out side the house. Mrs Dominica was cooking in the kitchen when she heard voice of u familiar people raging around the compound. She turned to her left and peeped through the window, she recognized one of the man.

It was Mr Andrew a loan shark, it was obvious what his mission was, it was for his money, they owned him by force. He have been sending them warnings and queries to get the money but they never adhered to him not because they wanted to ignore him or snub him but because they didn't have the money. The money they owed him was huge, it wasn't just some amount that was easy to acquire a solid 200,000 dollars. They had actually borrowed 150,000 dollars but since they weren't able to meet up with the payment the interest multiplied. Mrs Dominica a 60 year old woman had to run into the hands of loan shark because of desperation.

Five years ago, when Jade's parents had an accident, they were rushed to the hospital. The doctor said that he wouldn't start treatment untill a deposit was made, she cried and begged them to help her son and wife that she would run around and get the money, to make matters worst the man they ran his car over asked for the payment of the repairs. There was a lot on the old woman's head, her granddaughter Jade an 18 years old girl cried out her eyeballs when she heard her parents tragic news, out of desperation Mrs Dominica went to the loan sharks and borrowed the money from the loan sharks.

She deposited the money to the hospital and they started the treatment, she also compensated the car owner after he threatened to involve a lawyer to the case. Few days later, Mrs Dominica was invited and told that the couples health have worsened and they needed an emergency surgery, she prayed and weeped silently. The doctor brought another devastating news that Mr and Mrs Paulo Alex couldn't make it after the surgery, they passed earlier that morning. Mrs Dominica's heart beat dropped immediately, she immediately had a cardiac arrest and was rushed into the emergency ward, they managed to revive her, she couldn't cry because she didn't want to look weak in the eyes of her granddaughter.

She took in Jade at that age and catered for her, the companies that the couples work for donated some money to the deceased families but the money was small compared to the huge debt that was acquired for the sake of the deceased after which they still couldn't make it. After the burial, Jade decided that she would quit school and even though her grandma was very much against it but she wanted to help her grandma clear up the debts, when the agreed payment time approached, they couldn't gain the money so couldn't pay back.

Mr Andrew sent in some thugs to harass the old woman publicly, they even destroyed Mrs Dominica's stall and took away every valuable thing Inside the stall. They told her that the next time they would come, the house would be next and since then they've been trying every possible means to pay back this huge debt they owed. In a twinkle of an eye five years have passed since that incident and yet they were still unable to pay back the Debts that they owed.

Mrs Dominica quicky turned off the cooker and went outside, she thought of hiding but they will do more damage than harm , she walked outside slowly and meet Mr Andrew

"Old woman, why haven't you paid me my money, haven't I given you enough time, I see now that there is nothing good in pitying the wretched"

"Good day Mr Andrew"

Mrs Dominica greeted, she offered seats but they were angry to sit, she swallowed her saliva and trembled in fear. Her hands shaked terribly because of their terrifying looks. She knew that for Mr Andrew to come by himself to take his money there is no way he would go back without it, or even listen to her pleads. She could totally relate to him, five years was enough to pay back this Debts but after they destroy her stall and she could barely make ends meet.

Jade on the other hand, had gone out to do her delivery works she had gone out very early to work, she didn't even take her breakfast when her grandma yelled at her she promised to come back on time that was why she was preparing a food that afternoon before Mr Andrew's men invaded the compound, and thanks to that they were able to save up money to take care of the bills and some other necessities even though her pay wasn't much, the 23 year old girl have been hustling from a very young age.
