Chapter 3 Weird Interview, Eavesdropping

Violet POV

After the explanation was done, father had left me all to myself for the first few days but came to see me again yesterday and we talked it out, even going as far as to take a bottle of champagne each.

But today, I was going to find a job for myself. If my father's company was going down that fast

then I needed to do something to help the company but first of all, I needed to find a job. After dressing up, I left the house without having breakfast then took a cab and was soon standing before a large building.

I had seen numerous companies looking for different workers and had saved them all up after applying to them before deciding to meet with them today as specified in three companies's interview dates. One of them would hire me and I was so excited to start working.

As I walked into the building, I was sent to the reception area where many others sat waiting for their turn to be interviewed and that was when I felt nervous. Many of these people might have a better chance at this than me and I just hoped that I did not mess this up. Sending that prayer up, I heard my name being called and stood up.

My nerves were firing up as I took quick but confident steps to the door and walked into the

room."Have a seat Miss Violet" the woman there gave me a warm smile that I quickly reciprocated before passing her my file and taking a seat.

"Looks good." She praised me and I fought with a smile, looks like this one might have a

positive response.

"But what makes you think we should choose you despite all the others who are thought to have

a much better CV than yours?" She fired out as soon as she snapped the file shut and I

swallowed before I began.

I had prepared for this question and knew what to say beforehand so it didn't come off as a

surprise to me.

"I'm a dedicated worker, I strive to always complete my goals before their due date. I don't dilly dally during work periods and I follow orders quite well. I'm a peace maker of sorts and I know how to handle myself in a crisis or maybe even when a fight breaks out in the office

"I breathed in with a smile, hoping not to have messed it up with that last sentence.

"And how sure are you that a crisis might occur or as you said, a fight?" She asked with a

raised eyebrow and I breathed in slowly.

"In a work area, there is always diversity there. Not everyone thinks or is expected to act the

same. This might cause different problems if many are not interested in doing what is asked of them, this creating a crisis or a fight in severe cases

"I hadn't thought of being asked this, although I wanted to prepare for it, my mind told me to just

let my originality flow and that was cheers to the hopes that I did not screw it up.

"And you have methods of solving this how?" She asked with interest and I smiled before

launching into my own version of how the office crisis should be handled."

.... And should be taken as such" I finished and she smiled before standing and passing me my

CV .

"You would be an interesting addition to this company, Miss Violet. I will be in touch"she smiled and I nodded before accepting her handshake then turned to leave with a happy smile on my face.

I decided to try the second one and came out in smiles also but at the third one, as soon as they

heard my name they immediately turned me away much to my confusion.

I strolled down to the Café nearby and took a seat by the front porch where the outdoor tables

were arranged and a cute waiter came to take my order.

"What would you like to order Miss?" He asked and I smiled but my mood was still deep with

thoughts."I'll take a cappuccino, scalding and a chocolate cake to go with it please" I ordered and henodded before turning and leaving.

What could have made them throw me out of the company that fast without hearing any other

thing apart from my name.

I chided myself not to think about it much before I gave the waiter a smile of gratitude who had

returned with me order, he was fast and dit seemed I was beginning to like this spot.

When I finally got home, I found my father in my room going through my photo album with a

cute fond smile on his face. He smiled as soon as he saw me and I took off my wedges to go

seat between his open arms and together, we began to watch the album.

We were silent for a long while and once we were done laughing at my photos, both the silly

ones and the ones that carried so much memories. Father finally spoke up.

"How did the interviews go?" He asked with clear concern in his face.

"Two went well, I don't know what happened to the last one

" I scrunched up my nose at him and he bumped it, making me force a sneeze to which he

laughed.

"Not everything goes out way silly girl, two went good and that's something" he consoled me

and I smiled.

"Still thinks the last one was clear on weird but I will take your words for it" his face suddenly

turned serious and I sat up quickly.

"Is everything okay?" I asked with worriedness and he gave me a grimace which I was sure was supposed to be a reassuring smile.

"Really?" I asked with a raised left eyebrow and he laughed, genuinely.

"I will be having visitors from the office today's evening in the living room, could you stay up?"

He asked and I immediately nodded.

"Of course father, no need to ask. I'll get my needs up here and let you be" I promised and he

gave me a look.

"Should I trust that?" He asked and I laughed lightly.

"This time, I really promise. I won't throw ice creams into the face of your partners again" I said in between laughter and he nodded with a smile.

"Alright, I'll take your word for it" he nodded before standing up to drop off the album by the

table-stand then turned to me..

"You'll be fine?" He asked with crossed eyes."Oh I will be. It's time I grew up, not too high though" I walked up to him and hugged him to me, ever since mom left, dad and I had been inseparable and we loved each other so much. He was my rock and safe place and I was his comfort

"I love you kiddo" I hit his chest lightly.

" Alright alright, I love you young lady" father laughed with amusement.

"That is more like it. I love you dad" I snuggled into his chest and his arms tightened around me.

"If you don't let go, we would be here for the night" father chuckled and I smiled before we

disengaged from the hug.

"I missed that" I mumbled and she smiled faintly at me.

"I do too"

After he left, I went downstairs to take some snacks and then locked myself up in my room,

binge watching Netflix and waiting for any message.I opened, refreshed and closed my email multiple times as the hours passed, biting at my nails every now and then before going back to my movie.

When it was close to ten, I felt a gnawing feeling rise within me and I glanced at the door, recalling my earlier promise to my father on how I would stay in my room all night. But the thought of getting to know any more piece of information about the company had me tiptoeing out of my room and towards the stairs.

I bent down, hiding by the side when I heard voices that I did not recognise nor recall ever

hearing. Father migh have joined with new partners over the months I was away.... Or risk the company's total downfall"

Heart pricked in my chest. This was all my fault came a voice and I heard father sigh loudly. He

sounded tired and my

"Mr saints, we need to find potential investors ready to help bring the company back to its

former glory and promise them their profits in the long run" another said and I heard a few

affirmations.

"Then that's what we will do" Father said with resolve and I took that as my cue to go back to my room.

There across my screen were two emails waiting for me and with excitement and nervousness, I

pulled down the first one and it was just simple.

"We're sorry" Fair enough, I guessed. I headed to the second one, from the first company and it

had more words but also the same disappointment."We know this might come off as a shock to you and also a disappointment but we regret to inform you that, although we find you to be refreshing and exactly what this company needed, we have a better candidate already taking the position. Have a nice weekend ahead" I took in a deep breath as fresh tears rolled down my cheeks and I signed before wiping them away. A day of disappointment was not going to stop me. I patted my growing stomach and whispered to it softly.

"We will get a job, I just know it." How wrong I was.
