Chapter 5 5. Non existent boyfriend

Rajveer stared at his daughter with a blank expression, his mouth hung open like he couldn't believe he heard whatever that came out of her mouth right.

"What did you say?" He asked, taking a threatening step towards her.

She immediately stiffed, fear gripping her heart in a choking hold.

"This reaction is the same reason why I didn't tell you in the first place" She pointed her finger at him, trying not to show the fear she was feeling at that moment.

His brows furrowed hearing the accusation in her tone. He never reacted in a well mannered way when it came to boys in her life, so he knew she was right.

Ishaan sat there quietly, observing the interesting exchange between his dad and his sister, who rarely fight until it comes to boys, trips too long or Kiara's past that she's not aware of.

"Let me say it out loud and you correct me" Rajveer paused, glancing at Kiara to make sure he has her attention.

She narrowed her eyes hearing the calmness in his tone. Running her mind quickly, she braced herself for the impact of her own lie.

What would she say if he asked for the picture? Or details? She destroyed Enzo's life and is currently single right now.

She saw her dad take a deep breath, like he was trying to restore the peace and patience he needs for this conversation. She scratched her head, very well knowing that she's going to use up all of his patience within seconds.

"So you're saying you are not ready for marriage, but you are already in a relationship?" Kiara bit her tongue internally before composing herself.

She hates her father's logic. They are always on the spot.

"Did your brain ever tell you that I am in a relationship, so that's why I don't want to get married? Or that just because I am in a relationship doesn't mean I am ready to get married too?" Kiara asked, squinting her eyes like she got her shit together, which was far from the truth.

"How many months have you been in this 'said relationship'?" Rajveer air quoted sarcastically, testing if she was telling the truth or lying about it completely.

"Two years," Kiara replied without missing a beat.

"Did you know about it?" He asked, glancing at Ishaan who had been dead quiet about this.

He raised his hands in the air like he was surrendering, shaking his head sideways vigorously. Knowing something like that and not snitching on it to his dad meant a death wish, and Ishaan had none of those.

"Sure?" Rajveer pressed on it again, glaring at Ishaan who nodded sincerely.

"You've been in a relationship since you were nineteen and you never told us?" Rajveer asked, eyeing her suspiciously.

"You react like I am defusing a bomb every time I bring my guy friends home, what was I supposed to do, dad?" Kiara sighed frustratedly, ready to pull her own hair.

"Because not everyone is safe for you, not everyone has good intentions for you, you have to be careful" Rajveer threw his hands in the air , not knowing how to make her understand better about it.

Kiara looked away immediately. Her dad was right. Enzo and Bianca definitely didn't have good intentions for her. And in that moment, she felt like he was throwing that right into her face.

"You're unbelievable. You scare every single male out of their brains if they talk to me. And then you're pissed that I hid something from you that involves a male." She paused.

"If you don't want me to hide things from you, maybe you should have created a safe space for me to talk about them to you instead of making everything a big deal" Kiara huffed like a bull, getting out of her bed like it was the reason her life is such a mess.

"Don't walk out when we are having a conversation, princess" Her father said calmly, sitting on the bed.

"I am not walking out, but I will be flying out tomorrow. I don't want to keep arguing with you about marriage. Or about my relationship. I am an adult and I can do as I please" Kiara turned around and placed her hands on her waist, cocking her head to the side, eyeing him like she was assessing him.

"Oh so your plan is to run away instead of dealing with the problem? Mature move" Her dad rolled his eyes, provoking her.

"You know what's not a mature move? Trying to force your daughter into a marriage she doesn't want to be in, all because you want to get out that responsibility. Shouldn't have given birth to me instead, would have saved you a lot of headache." Kiara was beyond furious at this point.

Rajveer froze in his seat hearing her.

"Kiara Singhania" Ishaan shouted, waiting for her to realise that she crossed a line right there.

"Shut up Ishaan, you know nothing. All you can think about is getting me married because I have some invisible threat over me for being a Singhania. Marrying me to some guy you think is safe for me would actually lighten the weight on your shoulders, but look at me, I have to live in fear for the rest of my life, clean up after a mama's boy, make babies for him, do chores in his house and fear if I ever get cheated on, try to be the best daughter-in-law and wife because my family is not capable of protecting my sorry ass, and no one knows a person's reality until we live with them and I have to be the one bearing whatever guy you find for the rest of my life. And oh what if he tries to groom me or something because I am too young to get married? Do you realise how scary that is? And you won't even be able to do something about it because I will no longer be your responsibility" Kiara spoke in a single breath, letting go of everything she had been holding in her heart ever since her father started trying to convince her about getting married.
