Chapter 4 Return to the Devil's Yard

Chapter 4

Maya POV

"Congratulations Maya! You've done it again" Madam Lawson beamed with joy as she walked into the office.

"We got the deal?!" I jotted up the chair. I rushed towards her.

"Yes!!!!!! We got it! All thanks to you!" She placed her hand on my shoulder. I smiled still in shock at the big news.

"I couldn't have done that without your guidance, Thank you, Madam Lawson."

Working with Madam Lawson has been the best thing that happened lately. She took it upon herself taking me on every single step in the business world.

"You know what, let's celebrate!" She held my hand and walked out of my office. Everybody gathered, cheering with claps.

"To celebrate Maya's achievement, I declare today free! There would be enough food, cakes, and drinks to celebrate in the house!"

"Thank you, Madam Lawson!" They all chorused, applauding with a smile on their faces. I blushed, overwhelmed by the love. My heart is glazed with joy for the journey so far and for how far I have come.

I walked into Madam Lawson's big mansion centered on the great hill of Toronto. This has been my home for the past years, the only welcoming abode for me. Even after I had moved out, Madam Lawson still let me have the keys to the house.

"Welcome, Ms Maya, we miss you so much," One of the maids in the house greeted, her head slightly bowed.

"Thank you," I responded, a little smile on my face.

I found my way to the banquet hall in the mansion. One of the largest halls in the city, where the celebration party was held. The lights radiated like balls of fire, and the hall's arrangement was electric. I gazed around the hall, breathing in the impressive gathering held for me. I spotted Richard Lincoln, CEO of Langley Industries, and next to him was Senator Thompson. With them were billionaire investors; they were men who had the world at the tips of their fingers chatting with Madam Lawson.

"Madam Lawson wants you over there," one of the secretaries whispered in my ear. I gently got up from the chair, a proud smile on my face.

"Meet Maya, she is the reason why we are gathered!" Madam Lawson introduced.

"It's nice to meet you," I shook hands, exchanging pleasantries with the guests. I felt great inside of me, more like my confidence skyrocketed.

"Your success and growth is so inspiring. I would love to welcome you on board, I am sure we could have some potential collaboration!" Richard Lincoln stated.

"You are indeed a woman of leadership. We need people like you; your voice is needed." As the event unfolded, I found myself surrounded by powerful men; we all discussed engaging topics that could change my world.

Madam Lawson walked to me and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Power is not given; it is taken!" That was the last thing she said, leaving me amid greater people.

**********************

The sound of my alarm kept buzzing. I groaned, turning around the bed, difficult to get up the bed. I tried to shut it up, considering how exhausted I was from last night, I needed more time to gather myself for my day. While moving my hand around the table, my ringing sound overrode m the alarm sound, and immediately I jotted up. Whenever my phone rang, it was either two things, work or Sonia, and both are dear to me. Picking up my phone, it was my assistant on it.

"Mia, isn't too early!"

"We have a problem ma'am! We just got a call from Lintas," she responded from the other side of the phone. I place my hand on my forehead.

"It is always one problem or the other," I groaned.

"I am sorry, ma'am."

"Set up a meeting with the executive on board."

"Right away, ma'am." I ended the call and flipped my phone on my bed.

In no time, I freshened up and got dressed. Getting down the stairs, I saw Nana settling the breakfast.

"Good morning, Ms Maya," Nana helped with my bag.

"Morning Nana. Where is Delaney?"

"She is still in bed. Her Nanny should be attending to her now."

"Should?!"

"I will just go check." She gave a quick bow and then walked away. I settled in the dining room, sipping on my coffee when I heard the doorbell sound. Instead of having to call Nana back, I just go get the door myself.

"Madam Lawson?!" A surprised look appeared on my face seeing Madam Lawson in front of the door. She is not the morning person, seeing her here makes me wonder what could be so important that she couldn't just call or send one of the office assistants.

"I hope I didn't disturb your morning?"

"Not at all; I am dressed for work." I rested my back on the door.

"I know you, always prepared." She walked past me while I moved behind her.

"Here," she stretched her hand. In it was a folder.

"There is no other person fit for this deal," she added.

Going through each file, my eyes opened wider "Ventus Enterprises, in New York!" I whispered. My voice gripped with shock.

"Yes, I know! We can't lose to them, Maya." I clutched the papers, memories flashing through my head. Brandon's betrayal, his manipulation of taking my company away from me.

"You can see this as a means of revenge!"

I raised my eyes, staring at her. "Revenge? How do I take revenge on the same thing I owned? That company is mine! And I won't back down till I get it back!"

"Yes! That is the spirit!" She got up, sitting next to me. "Maya, You are not taking revenge on the company, you are taking revenge on that scumbag! You are showing that weakling how powerful you have become!" I grip tightly on the paper as I hear her talk.

"I will take it!" I responded, determination filled in my voice.

"You will have to face Brandon's new CEO, Lucas, I heard he is ruthless."

"I will show him I can be more ruthless!"

"I know I could count on you!"

"Mommy!" Delaney's comforting voice changed the whole atmosphere as I sighted her running towards me.
