CHAPTER ONE: The Revelation

SOPHIA POV

"Harder!" The Head Maid yelled as I scrubbed the staircase with all the force and strength in me. Of course, all the maids were going back and forth trying to make sure everywhere was well tidied. Because today was the Alpha's special banquet, and all his special guests were arriving in the next two hours. And yet everywhere had not been perfected.

The Head Maid was so frustrated as she whipped any maid who dared to slow down while I tried my best. I hated anytime her attention was fixed on me because it felt like she hated me the most. But yet I remembered today was my 18th birthday, and it amused me so much. I felt so joyful that I could almost jump in excitement. But I held it in. After all, what is the use of being so excited if I can't even get my mate?

Yet I knew for sure he would be somebody spectacular. Somebody who would take me out of this bondage of being a maid. I just could not wait for him to come. After all, they always said once a wolf reaches 18 years, they would easily sink with their own mate and bond together. I just couldn't wait for it as I continued cleaning while the Head Maid was still going back and forth in frustration.

I was soon done, and of course, the banquet started within minutes. We, the maids, were told to stay in a corner and serve dishes to all of them. I stood in a corner watching as they all arrived, looking so grand, smiles on their faces and partners by their sides as they strolled in. And of course, the Alpha arrived last. He was smiling from both cheek ends, and of course, he clapped his hands to get everyone's attention.

"Thank you all so much for coming to my banquet," he said as I tried my best not to fix my concentration on him. After all, I had never really even stood in the same position as the Alpha before. So I feared him so much. And he looked so intimidating. Or should I say intimidatingly gorgeous? I smiled to myself because, of course, I was thinking rubbish.

And that was the instant my mate came to me again. I can't wait for him to come. Only God knows how long he is going to take before he shows himself to me, I thought to myself as I lifted another dish to serve. Of course, I was going to serve the Alpha's destined mate, the mate that was given to him by the people of his own choosing-Mates, Selena Blake. As they were slowly preparing to get engaged very soon, I dropped the dish platter in front of her as she looked at me, her hands folded.

She seemed to be in a bad mood, and I just bowed to her, turning around to leave, only for me to feel a pull. Suddenly, I looked everywhere because, of course, I had studied so hard so that if a situation like this would come up, I wouldn't be so surprised. I used my eyes to scan around, hoping that I would see whoever my mate was going to be. But there was nobody. Nobody was staring at me. I was meant to feel this pull, right? I thought to myself. But I still couldn't find who it was.

I decided to just wave it off and forget about it and walked slowly away. But I felt it again, this time even more intense. But still, I couldn't find anyone. I decided that I would not listen to my inner wolf anymore, and if my mate was destined to be with me, he would come and find me himself.

Only for me to hear a cup, a glass shattering on the ground as everyone gasped. I turned around, and instantly my eyes met with the Alpha as he looked at me like he had seen something worse, like he had seen his enemy.

"Who are you?" he said to me as I was at first confused, pointing to myself.

Me? I said to him as he nodded.

"Yes, who are you? Why am I feeling a pull with you?" he added as I felt confused. It can't be right. It can't possibly be. Maybe it is just him mistaken. He's playing a trick on me; after all, these wealthy wolves are used to playing tricks on the poor and the maids.

Selena noticed how he was acting and quickly rushed to hold onto him. "Why are you even bothering yourself with her? She's just a random person. You don't have to get bothered," she said to him as he laughed.

"No, no, no, no. It is never anything like that," he said and left his position as he walked towards me, staring at me from head to toe.

"You are my mate," he said as I nodded.

"Yes, my Alpha," I added as he laughed.

"Can you imagine?" he said loudly, getting everyone's attention as his beta moved closer to him.

"Sir Alpha, what is the problem?" he muttered as the Alpha laughed again.

"This maid was assigned to me by the Moon Goddess to be my mate," he said, and his voice oozed mockery as everyone laughed loudly, of course adding to the mockery as I felt so ashamed and humiliated standing there. My heart was broken instantly.

I can't stay close to someone like this. Even if I am forced on my dying bed, I would still not choose to be with him. I reject him even before he dares to because it's clearly what he wanted.

He held onto my hand and dragged me to the middle of the stage as I staggered, unable to get a grip of myself.

"What is your name?" he said to me as I felt a bit confused.

"Sophia," I said to him.

"Sophia Watts," he added.

"Sophia Grant," I muttered, feeling scared as he laughed.

"A weak omega like you. Not to talk of you being a maid," he added again and then laughed like he was unable to believe even the words he was saying.

"The Moon Goddess really knows how to play a trick on me, right?" he said and then looked back at me with a serious face.

"Sophia Grant, my own maid. I reject you as my mate and I don't want you around me. I don't want you to think anything can ever, ever happen between the both of us," he said, and of course, he was expecting something dramatic to come up, but I didn't say anything and just bowed.

"Yes, you're my Alpha," I said, even though I couldn't even walk. I felt weak. My legs felt all jello because I couldn't even move anymore. It felt like his words had broken my wolf, who was so excited this morning.

As I walked away to the backyard, I saw the Head Maid also going through a list as she stopped in front of me.

"Sophia," she said as I looked at her while biting my lips, hoping I would hold in the tears.

"What are you doing here? You are not supposed to be here," she said to me as I nodded and was about to turn around, only for her to pull me back.

"You are now assigned as Alpha Gabriel's personal maid."
