I'm sure they're doing well in the marriage," Chief Collins said, moving towards his bedroom his voice filled with confidence. "Trust me, my friend, with time they'll get used to each other and find love. David's a good boy, and Diamond's a lovely girl. They'll make it work."
Chief Henry chuckled on the other end of the phone call. "I hope so, my friend. You know I want what's best for my daughter. I just want her to be happy."
Chief Collins reassured him. "She'll be happy, don't worry. David will take care of her. He's my son and he is a responsible young man. Let's just give them some time to adjust to each other."
As they continued their conversation, they were oblivious to the reality of David and Diamond's marriage. Behind closed doors, David was treating Diamond poorly, enforcing the rules he had laid out on their first day together.
One day, Diamond approached David, looking unwell. "I'm not feeling too well, please I need to go see a doctor" she said, her voice weak.
David's response was immediate and brutal. He grabbed a belt and began to beat her, yelling at her for being weak. "You're my wife, and you'll do as I say," he screamed.
Diamond cried out loud,my stomach my stomach hurts please stop she said, before David knew what was happening blood started gushing out from Diamond's body,he quickly rushed her to the hospital because he was very scared at that moment.
Mr David your wife has a miscarriage how did it happen?Doctor Angel their family doctor asked
I don't know Doctor she was just taking a nap this afternoon when this happened "he lied" I guess she is stressed or something but please don't tell my dad about this I don't want him to be worried please,I promise to take care and watch over her the more,"Please do" Doctor Angel replied and David left the office to take Diamond home.
When they got home,Diamond was crying and David said to her "Hey will you just stop crying,I didn't mean to hurt you, I was just trying to correct you, I'm sorry, don't worry we will make new babies,"Diamond gave an hatred look but still nodded in agreement.
She left for her room heartbroken.
A week after the miscarriage, David and Diamond were getting ready to visit their parents. David's tone turned cold as he warned Diamond, "When we're at your parents' house, I want you to pretend everything is fine. Smile, be cheerful, and don't say anything that might raise suspicion. If you slip up, I'll make sure you regret your actions, read my lips."
Diamond's eyes welled up with tears as she nodded, but at the back of her mind she was thinking that at least maybe her father would be able to save this time around, knowing better than to defy David. She put on a fake smile, and they set off for the visit.
As they arrived at Diamond's parents' house, she tried to catch her father's eye, hoping to convey her distress. She subtly lingered behind David, trying to get a moment alone with her father. Chief Henry noticed his daughter's unease but attributed it to normal marital adjustments.
The family decided to have dinner together, the dinner table was filled with laughter and warmth as Chief Collins and Chief Henry beamed with pride at their children's marriage. David played the perfect husband, feeding Diamond bites of food and smiling affectionately at her.
"Baby do you need water? do you need more food? are you fine? "David asked Diamond." Pretending to be caring.
"I'm so glad to see you two getting along," Chief Collins said, patting Chief Henry on the back. "Henry, I told you they were doing well,i trust David."
Chief Henry nodded in agreement. "Yes, David's a great match for our Diamond. They're meant to be."
Diamond forced a smile, her eyes darting to David, who was watching her with an intense gaze. "Yes, everything is perfect," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
David reached out and took her hand, his touch sending shivers down her spine. "We're happy, aren't we, darling?" he said, his eyes glinting with a warning.
Diamond nodded, her heart heavy with fear. She attempted to drop hints, speaking in a coded tone about feeling trapped and unheard to her father Chief Henry. However, Chief Henry misinterpreted her words, thinking she was referring to typical marital issues. "Oh, darling, all couples go through that phase. David's a good man, he'll take care of you," he said, patting her hand.
David smiled, satisfied that Diamond's attempt to signal for help had been brushed off. As they left, Diamond's eyes locked onto her father's, pleading for understanding, but he just smiled and waved goodbye.
As they left her parents' house, Diamond felt a sense of despair wash over her. She had tried to signal for help, but her father had misinterpreted her cues. David's grip on her hand tightened as they walked back to their car, a subtle reminder of his control.
In the car, David's mask slipped, and he glared at Diamond. "You tried to embarrass me in front of your parents right, didn't you?" he hissed. Diamond shook her head I didn't she stammered, but David just laughed. "Don't lie to me. I know what you're trying to do but it cool at least no one can save you from me now,he laughed out loud."
As they drove home in silence, Diamond's mind racing with thoughts of escape and survival. She knew she had to find a way to get help, but her father's dismissal had left her feeling isolated and alone.
When they arrived home, David's demeanor changed again, and he acted as though nothing had happened. "Let's go to bed, darling, sweet dreams, sleep tight," he said, his voice dripping with sweetness. Diamond's skin crawled as she realized she was trapped in a living nightmare.
