Chapter 6 I don't have the qualifications, but you do

She handed the photo back to Jason. "Did you really have someone follow me? Next time, if you want to know something, just ask me directly. No need to go through all this trouble."

Jason's deep-set eyes grew even darker as he fixed his gaze on Madelyn. "I wouldn't stoop so low as to have someone tail you."

He had only received the photo and didn't even know who had sent it to him.

The cold indifference in Jason's eyes stung Madelyn.

The countless stings in her heart had left her almost numb to the torment. She raised her hand and slipped on her sunglasses. "Aren't we going in? Let's not waste time."

It was only then that Jason noticed her outfit-a rare, striking red dress.

He had never liked women dressing too flamboyantly, so Madelyn had always stuck to beige tones-elegant and demure.

But now, standing there with her dress billowing in the breeze and her hair dancing in the wind, she exuded a unique allure.

Jason's jaw tightened as he said, "If you regret this, it's not too late. I can still offer you one last chance."

"Don't worry, Mr. Miller. I won't regret it, " Madelyn replied without a moment's hesitation, her tone almost impatient. "And I certainly wouldn't want to stand in the way of your pursuit of true love. I hope the person you like gets divorced soon too."

She flashed a mocking smile, throwing his words right back at him.

Jason's face darkened visibly, his expression stormy.

Without another word, he strode into the courthouse.

The two of them signed the divorce papers and scheduled a date a month later to finalize the divorce decree after the mandatory cooling-off period.

As the divorce proceedings officially began, Madelyn let out a sigh of relief. She got into the white Audi that Daniel had let her borrow and drove off.

She didn't say goodbye, nor did she spare Jason even a glance.

Jason's face darkened further as he stood there, his eyes fixed on the Audi's taillights until they vanished around the corner.

Only then did he return to his own car. After leaving the courthouse, Madelyn drove back to Jason's house.

When she had left before, she had only taken a single suitcase of essentials. There were still some work-related items she needed to retrieve.

As soon as she stepped inside, she saw two maids cleaning the living room while gossiping in hushed tones.

"So, they really got divorced? And it was Mrs. Miller who initiated it..."

"Don't call her Mrs. Miller anymore. They've been on the verge of divorce for ages!"

"A country girl like her just doesn't know what's good for her! Mr. Miller has such a prestigious status-so many women would kill for a chance to be with him. But she throws tantrums and wants a divorce? She'll regret it later, just wait and see!"

Madelyn cleared her throat lightly and walked into the living room.

The two maids immediately fell silent. Realizing she had overheard them, they didn't panic but instead stood there with an air of defiance.

Madelyn asked calmly, "So, because you work for the prestigious Miller family, you think that makes you prestigious too? Does that give you the right to gossip behind someone's back without fear of being fired?"

The two maids froze, exchanging nervous glances, but they stiffened their necks, thinking Madelyn was bluffing. After all, she was about to divorce Jason and wouldn't have the authority to fire them.

As Madelyn walked upstairs, she added, "The divorce isn't finalized yet, and you're already disrespecting me. What's the matter..."

She smiled faintly. "Do you really think that once I'm out of the picture, you'll have a shot at him?"

At that, the maids' faces turned pale with panic.

"We're sorry, Mrs. Miller! We didn't mean anything by it!

Of course, we respect you!"

At that moment, the sound of the front door opening echoed through the house.

"Mrs. Miller?"

Jason had returned, bringing with him a cold, imposing air.

It was clear he had overheard the conversation, and his icy gaze landed squarely on Madelyn.

"Do you honestly think you still have the right to call yourself Mrs. Miller? What right do you have to discipline the Miller family's staff?"
