This was West Street, territory belonging to the Tiger Head gang. The two punks had tiger tattoos on their arms, so it seemed they were indeed part of it.
The thugs paused for a moment, and one of them asked, "You know Camden?"
In North Street, there was a guy known as Leopard Head who ran the local thugs, while Camden was the leader of the West Street crew. The two gangs often clashed over territory.
Elinor Fernan suddenly remembered that Tristan Edwards had mentioned he often dealt in second-hand goods around West Street and was quite familiar with the local thugs. Last time, he had helped her track Gethin and Bridget Foster, thanks to those thugs' assistance.
"I'm a friend of Camden," Elinor said confidently.
Because of her words, ten minutes later, she found herself led into an abandoned warehouse, where she saw a muscular man sitting in a chair.
"You're the one looking for me?" Camden's voice boomed, full of energy. "I don't remember knowing you."
This was Elinor's first encounter with someone from the underworld, and she instinctively tightened her fingers. Taking a deep breath, she said, "I'm here to discuss business with Camden."
The man known as Tiger Head burst into laughter. "You want to talk business with me?"
The surrounding thugs couldn't help but burst into laughter, mocking her for being so overconfident.
Elinor Fernan ignored their jeers and continued, "As far as I know, there's been a longstanding conflict between Leopard Head on North Street and Camden. You both want to take over each other's territories, but you've been unable to eliminate one another, resulting in this stalemate. If I have a way to help Camden get rid of Leopard Head, would Camden be interested in this deal?"
As her words hung in the air, the laughter around her faded away. Tiger Head furrowed his brow, looking at her skeptically. "Little girl, don't talk big. You think you can help me take down Leopard Head?"
"I'm not talking big; I really do have a way," Elinor replied confidently.
Tiger Head sneered, "Why should I trust you?"
"I'm a friend of Tristan Edwards,"
Elinor said, mentioning Tristan's name. She wasn't entirely sure how close Tristan was to Tiger Head, but at this point, she had to give it a shot.
"You know Tristan Edwards?"
Elinor nodded eagerly. "Yes, I do. Before he left, he told me that if I ever needed anything, I could come to Camden, saying that Camden is the most loyal person around."
She carefully chose her words of praise, knowing that in the underworld, loyalty and camaraderie were highly valued; flattering someone was always a safe bet.
"Come on, do you really think that punk Tristan Edwards would say anything nice about me?" Tigerhead spat, his face twisted in disdain.
Elinor Fernan was momentarily at a loss for words. Could it be that she had misjudged the relationship between Tigerhead and Tristan Edwards?
"I've never heard of Tristan Edwards having a friend like you," Tigerhead said, still skeptical of her.
Elinor gritted her teeth and blurted out, "I'm his new girlfriend. I'll be moving to the city soon for college, and we've agreed to meet up there."
The words slipped out before she could think, and she felt her face flush with embarrassment. Thankfully, Tristan Edwards wasn't there; otherwise, she would have wanted to disappear into a hole.
Tigerhead paused for a moment before bursting into laughter. "So, what can you do to help me get rid of Leopardhead? Let's hear it."
Elinor felt a wave of relief wash over her and shared her plan.
It wasn't complicated; simply put, it involved catching Leopardhead and his crew in the act of doing something illegal so that the police could arrest them on the spot, making it easy to put them behind bars.
Leopardhead and his gang were known for their shady dealings. Back in school, Elinor had often heard stories of female students being harassed by those thugs from North Street after classes.
This was exactly why Joshua Scott insisted on picking up and dropping off Sylvia Fernan every day. He was worried about her being harassed by thugs on her way home, while Elinor Fernan was completely off his radar.
Elinor had been harassed a few times in the past, but she was lucky enough to encounter passersby on her way home each time. Those thugs didn't dare to go too far and would let her go.
Eventually, she learned to be cautious. Whenever she walked through that area, she would wait until there were adults around before heading out, ensuring her safety.
Sylvia Fernan was hanging out with those troublemakers, and Elinor could easily guess what kind of trouble they might stir up.
Elinor Fernan decided to play along and let them reap what they sowed.
After returning from Tiger Head's place, she got back to the Su family late. Joshua Scott had already returned and was upstairs cursing at Bridget Foster. Elinor quickly washed up and went to bed.
The next day, the boy from her stall came back, asking her to help fix the fan again.
This time, Elinor readily agreed. "I'm sorry about yesterday; I had something to take care of."
The boy quickly shook his head, saying it was no problem, and led her toward the abandoned repair shop on North Street. Elinor pretended not to notice the flicker of avoidance in his eyes, maintaining a calm demeanor as they approached the shop.
Soon, the small-time thugs hiding around the corner emerged and dragged Elinor Fernan into the repair shop.
Sylvia Fernan was snuggled up next to a guy with a leopard tattoo, a cold smirk on her face as she looked at Elinor. "Elinor Fernan, didn't expect to find yourself in my hands today, did you?"
Elinor rolled her eyes. What was there to be surprised about? With Sylvia's pig-headedness, this was the best she could come up with.
"What do you want?" Elinor asked, feigning calmness despite the panic creeping in.
"You little brat! You ruined my chance to go to college, got me beaten by Dad, and turned me into this mess. It's all your fault! Today, I'm going to make you wish you were never born," Sylvia spat, each word dripping with venom.
Elinor was too tired to argue with her. "You don't need to beat around the bush. Just say what you want."
Sylvia smirked coldly and glanced at the guy with the leopard tattoo. He nodded, and soon a few thugs started dragging Elinor toward the back of the abandoned repair shop.
Behind the shop was a small grove, and with the sun setting, it was clear what those thugs intended to do with her.
Even though everything was part of her plan, Elinor Fernan still felt a wave of anxiety wash over her. If things went wrong, she might truly fall into an abyss.
The two thugs who had brought her to the small grove revealed their malicious smiles as soon as they arrived, rubbing their hands together and lunging toward her.
Elinor's heart sank, making it hard for her to breathe. She glanced around, feeling increasingly uneasy. They had agreed to meet with Tiger, so why hadn't he shown up yet?
Could it be that Tiger had changed his mind and decided not to come?
The thought made Elinor frown tightly, and she couldn't help but feel regret. She shouldn't have trusted Tiger so easily; she should have prepared for a backup plan. Now, she had really gotten herself into a mess.
At that moment, the two thugs were leering at her, their eyes filled with predatory intent.
Elinor's heart raced, and she instinctively clenched her fists.
"Hehe, don't even think about running away. Even if you sprout wings today, you won't escape. Just be a good girl, and my buddy and I promise to be very gentle with you."
