Chapter 6 The Big Scandal

Bridget Foster returned home just as dusk was settling in, her good mood making her feel like she was walking on air. As she stepped inside, the delicious aroma of food wafted through the air, and she saw Elinor Fernan coming out of the kitchen with a plate of dishes.

"Mom, you're back! Come on, dinner's ready!"

Elinor had been at odds with Bridget for the past few days, so this sudden change in attitude caught her off guard. She glanced at the table, noticing the spread was quite generous.

Joshua Scott and Sylvia Fernan came down the stairs, and the four of them sat down to eat together.

Today, Bridget was in a good mood and surprisingly didn't cause any trouble, making for a relatively peaceful dinner.

After the meal, before Bridget could say anything, Elinor took the initiative to head to the kitchen to wash the dishes. Bridget felt even more at ease with her daughter's thoughtfulness.

The next morning, Bridget slept in until the sun was high in the sky.

As she came downstairs, she saw Elinor walking in through the front door, holding a bouquet of flowers. "Where did those flowers come from?"

"I don't know. I found them at the door when I stepped outside, and there was no one around," Elinor replied, shaking her head as she placed the flowers on the table. "Oh, it looks like there's a card inside!"

As she opened the card, Bridget Foster read the words, "The most beautiful flower, for the most beautiful you in my eyes."

Suddenly, a spark ignited in Bridget's heart. Just yesterday, Gethin had told her she was as beautiful as a flower. Could it be that these flowers were sent by him?

Thinking this, her heart raced with excitement. She walked over and snatched the card from Elinor Fernan's hand, glancing at the words with a blush creeping onto her cheeks.

Bridget cradled the flowers as she headed upstairs, while Elinor watched her retreating figure, a cold smile playing on her lips.

"Enjoy it while it lasts; you'll be crying in a few days."

In the following days, a bouquet would appear at the Su family's doorstep every morning, right after Joshua Scott dropped Sylvia Fernan off at school. Thanks to these flowers, Bridget's mood improved significantly, and she even managed to stay calm when dealing with Elinor.

Joshua noticed the increase in flowers around the house and casually asked during dinner, "What special occasion is it? Why are there so many flowers?"

His offhand comment seemed to strike a sensitive chord in Bridget's heart. She quickly replied, "There's no special occasion. I just thought it would be nice to have some flowers around to brighten up the place."

Joshua Scott usually didn't pay attention to these matters, so he remained silent at the remark.

Bridget Foster stole several glances at Joshua during the meal, confirming that he was not suspicious before she finally relaxed.

With the college entrance exams approaching, she needed to make the most of her study time. Although she had a strong foundation, it had been years since she last reviewed this material, and picking it back up was no easy task. Therefore, she had to work even harder.

Bridget had arranged to meet Gethin on the tenth of every month. Normally, it didn't seem like much, but lately, the flowers had been making her anxious.

As usual, the flowers were left at her doorstep. Bridget had timed it

perfectly, so she was waiting there right on schedule. However, today she waited for a long time without seeing the flowers arrive, and just as she was about to turn back, someone called out to her.

"Excuse me, are you Miss Bridget Foster?"

"I am. Who are you?" Bridget turned around to see a stranger standing behind her.

"A man said he would be waiting for you in Room 302 at the Golden Pavilion Hotel at 4 PM." After delivering the message, the person walked away, leaving Bridget Foster standing there, her face growing redder by the second.

At 5 PM, Joshua Scott finished his shift and stepped out of the factory. After saying goodbye to a few coworkers, he was about to head home when someone called out to him at the entrance.

"Someone asked me to give this to you."

Before Joshua could respond, the person rode off on their bike.

Confused, Joshua opened the envelope and a key fell out, along with a piece of paper. As he read the words on it, his mind exploded with rage.

"Bridget Foster is with her lover in Room 302 at the Golden Pavilion Hotel."

That single line sent Joshua into a fury, and he hopped on his bike, racing toward the hotel.

Inside, Elinor Fernan was reading. Just after nine, she heard some commotion outside, followed by the sound of a man cursing and a woman crying.

As soon as Bridget Foster entered the room, she fell to her knees with a thud, grabbing Joshua's sleeve and begging for forgiveness. "Joshua, please forgive me! It was my fault, all my fault."

Joshua roughly shoved Bridget away, disgust written all over his face. "You filthy woman!

Don't touch me!"

Bridget Foster kept slapping her own face, pleading, "Joshua, I really know I was wrong. I won't do it again. Please, for the sake of the kids, forgive me!"

Joshua Scott let out a cold laugh and raised his hand, delivering a sharp slap to Bridget's face. "Now you're scared? Did you think about the kids when you were with that other man?

You shameless woman!"

Earlier that day, after seeing that letter, Joshua had rushed to the Golden Court Hotel. Upon opening room 302, he was met with an unbearable sight that sent him into a furious rage.

He never expected Bridget would dare to cheat on him.

Bridget covered her face and cried uncontrollably, begging for mercy between sobs.

Upstairs, Sylvia Fernan heard the commotion and rushed down, only to freeze at the scene before her. "Mom, Dad, what's going on?"

"Get back to your room!" Joshua shouted in anger. Sylvia, who had always been sensitive and never faced any hardships, couldn't handle the harshness. With red eyes, she covered her face and ran back to her room.

Elinor Fernan, who was staying in a small storage room on the first floor, couldn't help but smirk as she listened to the commotion from behind the thin door.

Tonight's show was all her design.

Elinor Fernan planned for Joshua Scott to catch Bridget Foster in the act.Joshua Scott was the typical weak man-tough at home but timid outside. He had a strong sense of pride, and now that he had discovered Bridget with another man, her good days were numbered.

Elinor felt a rush of satisfaction. Tristan Edwards was quite reliable in his work, but she couldn't help but wonder how the other matter was progressing.

She was getting a bit impatient.

Three days later.

As soon as school was over, Elinor was stopped by someone. The person was dressed in a casual, rebellious style typical of the local youth, and without saying a word, he grabbed her hand and pulled her along.

They arrived at the entrance of the Hongxia convenience store near the school. Tristan went inside and bought two bottles of soda, handing one to her.

"Drink up!"

In this era, drinks weren't as varied as they would be in the future. The most popular choice was orange soda, especially in the summer. The bright orange liquid, contained in a clear glass bottle, was filled with cheap artificial flavoring. The shopkeeper casually fished it out from a bucket of ice water and wiped it with a towel, while colorful straws bobbed up and down in the drinks.

This was the unique taste of summer, where even the sound of cicadas seemed to bubble with the scent of oranges...

"The job's done," Tristan Edwards said, raising an eyebrow at Elinor Fernan, a look on his face that clearly said, "Now, how are you going to thank me?"

"What about the photos?" Elinor replied, extending her hand toward him. "Let me see how they turned out."
