" You got married to the Alexander King and you are telling me not to make a big deal out of it!". Amelia Baker, Sophie's best friend, exclaimed attracting the attention of people nearby.
Sophie looked at her best friend like she had grown two heads. " It was not planned". She said.
" What do you even mean by that?". She asked. " I am your best friend and I never got to attend your wedding! You owe me big time".
" Amelia, I really am sorry but it was just bound to happen this way". She said.
" How did you even get to know this man? I mean he is a freaking billionaire, girl". Amelia said.
Sophie played with her drink. " We met at the hospital actually when I took my mum for her treatment". She said absolutely looking for ways to avoid telling her the obvious truth.
" And for how long did you guys know each other again?".
" Uh, a month". Sophie lied.
" And I was not invited to my best friend's wedding, why?". She really was not going to let this go.
Sophie thought for a second. " He loves his privacy".
Amelia rolled her eyes. "It was literally all over the news and I called you several times young lady. Where was your phone?".
" You really need to stop acting like my mom". Sophie said playfully. " My phone was not with me. I practically forgot about it".
" I mean who would not forget about the phone when you have such a handsome man beside you. How is he like? Is he treating you well?".
Sophie felt absolutely bad for lying to her friend but it was clearly written in the contract that no one except the two people involved are to know about the contract.
" He is good actually. And yes, he treats me well". Sophie said.
" You have always wanted to marry a rich man after all. And good riddance to bad rubbish and yes, I am talking about that cheating ex of yours. You know I always warned you about him". Amelia commented, her fingers flying through her wavy brown hair.
" Yeah".
" He messed up really bad. I hope you are okay though with everything that happened".
" I am alright. I will be fine, Amelia. Quit worrying". Sophie said.
" Of course, you just have to be happy, girl. You have such a handsome man to yourself. I really want you to introduce us and just maybe he has a billionaire friend or something". She said with a huge smile.
" I doubt he has friends".
" You cannot be so sure. Although, he does look cold and all. He really deals ruthlessly with people according to what I heard but I support him as long as he treats you right. You deserve everything good things in life". Amelia said.
Sophie laughed. " Okay, I think I am ready to move to the next topic".
" Are you still working at the coffee shop?". Amelia asked.
" No, not anymore. Alexander pretty much loves his reputation".
" How do you intend to pay your mother's hospital bills then? Oh wait, of course he will pay for everything".
" Amelia, you need to start chilling".
" No way". She turned to the bartender. " Iced coffee, please!".
Sophie departed from Amelia and headed to the hospital which was few minutes walk from the restaurant they once were.
She entered into the hospital when the attending nurse called to her. " Miss Miller, right?". She nodded. " Your mother has been transferred to our VIP wards. If you would please follow me".
Sophie followed her absentmindedly. The nurse took her to an upper floor which looked better than the floor her mother was previously in.
The nurse opened a door and gestured for her to walk in. The nurse was about to walk away when Sophia asked. " Why was she moved here?".
" The payment of your mother's medical bills is now sponsored by Alexander King". She simply answered and walked off.
Sophie smiled a bit to herself and walked inside the spacious room. Her mother lifted up her eyes and when she saw her daughter, she smiled.
" Come here, Sophie. I was wondering when you will later show up. What has kept you busy all this while?".
Sophie sat beside her mother. " Mum, it has only been a few hours".
" You did not see me yesterday, Sophie".
Sophie's eyes widened when she realized yesterday was her wedding day that her mother was clearly not aware of.
" I am really sorry, mum". She apologized. " I caught Sammie with another woman. He was cheating on me, mum". She diverted her mother's attention.
Her mother's face twisted in pity for her. " I had always told you that I never trusted that man but you were so blindly by his words. I am really sorry, Sophie. How do you feel?".
Sophie shrugged. " I am okay, I guess. Do you like your new ward?".
" Yes, I prefer it a lot to that cramped little space. I was told a really nice man did this for me. I requested to talk to the man but he declined. Maybe you can talk to him for me". Her mother said with a happy smile in her face.
Sophie nodded. " I will try, ma".
" The man is certainly God sent, Sophie. All my prayers have been answered. Now you do not have to work so hard anymore".
" How are you feeling, mum?". She asked.
" I feel so much better. Although, I am still really weak and the doctor said I might be here for a while though".
Sophie spent some time with her mother and towards the evening, she hailed a cab back to the mansion.
On reaching the inside of the mansion, a very angry voice shouted at her. " Where have you been since morning?". Alexander asked with a death glare pasted on his face.
She calmed her mind down and replied. " I went out". She started to walk out of him when he stepped in front of her.
He backed her to a wall and held her gaze. " When I am talking you, Sophie, you dare not walk away from me! Do you hear me?".
She shivered and nodded. " I need a response from you, Sophie".
He backed away from her. " Where have you been?".
" I went out with my friend..."
" A guy?". He asked with a frown.
She kept quiet. " Answer me, Sophie!". He said.
" What if it was a guy, Alexander?!". She stood her ground.
He pinched his nose. " I know you might want to explore your options of guys out there but it clearly states in the contract that you are not allowed to date any guy until it is few months to the end of the contract".
" I went to see my friend, Amelia, who is clearly a girl and then I went to see my mother at the hospital". She simply said.
He looked down at her. " Why did you not take the car?".
" You never said I could take your car, Alexander". She said.
" Oh definitely not my car, you have your own car. Mike will be driving you to whereever you wish to go". He said.
" And also keep watch over me and report back to you, is that not right?". She deemed it necessary she asked why he was so interested in her life.
" I will advise that you do not place too much worth over yourself, Sophie". He said and stepped away from her.
" Why do you hate me so much?". She could feel the tears about to run down her face.
" You are too fragile, Sophie, I could break you if I want to. Stay away from me!". He said and finally walked out from her.
