Chapter 5 Threads of Betrayal

The next day at Thorne Group of company, Cassian was already seated by his desk going through the monthly report of the company.

Veronica hadn't arrived yet and he was glad that he could have this moment all to himself.

Suddenly, his eyes latched unto something.

"What!" He said, rising to his feet and staring at the document.

There was so many accounting errors that has been done and the accounting department didn't even try to make correction to it.

He picked up his cell phone and called the head of the department, Miss Lina.

"Good Morning sir" A soft feminine voice came through the phone.

"What is the meaning of this madness on my desk?" Cassian asked, trying to control his temper.

"I don't know what you are talking about sir." She replied with a confused tone.

"Since last week, there has been more credits than debts but your department is trying to prove otherwise." He said.

"Mrs Veronica reached out to us and claimed that she needed her twenty five percent dividend for a very important project. As a top investor, we had no choice than to give her what she wants." She replied.

"And you didn't bother telling me or my father about it?" He asked in anger.

"We are sorry sir. She was very strict and we didn't want to get into her bad book"

Cassian knew she had a point. Veronica is the type of woman to threaten people into doing her bidding because she has the money and power.

"Very well then, make sure the department take note of these loopholes." He instructed and hung up afterwards.

Cassian sat back down, his eyes looking at the beautiful frame of his wife Aurora. His heart was heavy because of the things he did to her.

Ever since the arrival of Veronica into the company, a lot of things had changed but his love for Aurora was beyond strong.

Cassian still believed that she could be alive somewhere even though his father had informed him about Aurora's death.

It was moments like this when he was loosing his mind that he needed her warm touch.

His thoughts get pulled away by a knock on the door after which the door opened. Caleb walked into the room with a smile on his face.

"Aren't you supposed to be busy with your mistress work?" He teased as he made his way to the chair.

"She is not my mistress and watch your mouth." Cassian warned.

"You look really angry." Caleb observed his brother's countenance.

"Can you believe that Veronica took money from the accounting department without informing anyone." He said.

"What is she using it for?" Caleb asked.

"I just called Lina. She said Veronica wanted money for some strange project that she was working. She took the money from the dividend and now she has left this company without any valuable income."

There was a brief silence followed by Caleb clearing his throat. "Father has given this woman so much power and it is absolutely embarrassing."

For the first time, Cassian agreed with Caleb.

His father has gone soft and even though he claims to be step ahead, it is almost looking like Veronica was smarter.

"There are other things we should be worried about right now." Caleb informed.

"What are you talking about?" Cassian asked.

He pulled out his phone and showed a picture to Cassian.

His eyes widened in shock as he read through the head line of the news.

"Why will Mack fashion industry do such a thing!"

"Because Veronica controls that industry. They failed to deliver the tailored suit and now they are lying to the media that father is a big fraud." Caleb said.

Casssian didn't want to believe Veronica Steele was sabotaging their moments and lying to the media. It was too much of a wickedness to be ignored.

"And that is not all. Dominic has acquired a right to Smiths Oil Company and they have sent a letter out there to remove this company from the list of directors."

"This is absolutely stupid! Veronica is doing too much." Cassian spoke in anger.

"We need to come up with a plan. Either we stop Veronica and her husband right now or they end up taking everything we worked for." Caleb replied.

Cassian has never been in this situation before. His role was simply on administrative control. Caleb was the one carrying out the dirty job.

"What is Dominic record in the underground world? Does he have strong back up with the gangs?" Cassian asked.

"I have made my enquiries and they do. Right now the only person that can help us is father. We need to let him see the bigger picture." Caleb revealed.

Cassian sat back on his chair scanning the room while his mind was processing so many thoughts. His eyes landed on Aurora's picture and he noticed something familiar.

He picked up the frame and noticed a mark on her left wrist and then an image of Veronica flashed across his mind.

They also share the same mark.

"Why are you still sulking over her." Caleb observed.

"I think there is some sort of connection between Veronica and Aurora. I cannot point it out right now." Casssian said.

"Do you want me to run a background check?" Caleb asked with a smirk on his face.

"That will not be a bad idea."

After their meeting, Cassian was heading back to his car when his phone begins to ring.

He checked his phone and realized his father is on the line.

"Hello father." He said, hoping into his vehicle.

"Why has Veronica chosen to be a pain on our neck?"

"I don't know father. The only reason why that bitch is not dead is because of the respect I have for you." Cassian admitted.

"You and Caleb will need to sit down and talk about it. Something has to be done or else this company will fall apart." Reginald revealed.

"You don't have nothing to worry about. Caleb has promised to handle it. All we have to do is wait."
