Chapter 4 Cracks in the Throne

Cassian was angrily flipping through the pages of some of the documents that has been mailed to him by Veronica.

He was frustrated after she had publicly humiliated him on different occasion. Sometimes he wished the company was never sinking, he wouldn't have found himself in this dilemma.

His telephone begins to ring and he picked up.

"Where are the documents that I sent to you?" Veronica asked angrily.

"You just mailed them moments ago. How do you expect me to be done skimming through the entire thing?" He asked, rolling his eyes angrily.

"You are becoming incompetent and lazy. I don't like when my assistants are lazy." She remarked.

"I am not your assistant. I am only helping my father do what is necessary to save this company." He replied.

There was silence from the other end and Cassian thought she had ended the call, until her voice came through once again.

"Come to my office now." She ordered and hung up the phone.

Cassian dropped the telephone angrily and sat back on his sit, thinking through the whole mess that he found himself.

The door opened and Reginald stepped into the room. The moment he laid eyes on his son, he takes a deep breath and shakes his head.

"What has she done this time?" He asked.

"Father, when are we going to end this deal with her? I am sick and tired of her ordering me around like I am some sort of a child."

Reginald walked to the chair and sat down. He paused for a second, allowing the words of his son sink in.

"We just have to endure her madness. I understand that you are angry but we cannot let this company go bankrupt. When the time is right, she will be sent out of the company." Reginald assured.

"And you think a woman like Veronica Steele will let go of the company easily? Father admit it, you made a huge mistake signing some of the rights to her." Cassian said to his father.

"I don't make mistakes son. I am always one step ahead." He said with a smile and pulled out his phone from his pockets.

"Yesterday, I reached out to Mack fashion industries to purchase a lot of tailored suits. I read through their rules and they have regards for people, who purchase higher deals. If I am able to buy some share with them, then I will purchase the entire industry"

Cassian knew his father had a good plan but he was still weary of Veronica. She seemed to be smart to find her way out of the situation.

The telephone begins to ring aggressively, prompting Cassian to pick up his laptop and get up.

"I have to go. She asked me to bring some of the documents." Cassian said to the father.

"I will be waiting when you come back." Reginald replied and watched his son move out of the office.

Cassian made his way down to Veronica's office.

No investor has ever demanded for an office in the company. She is the first to do such a thing and each time he thinks about it, Cassian is angry.

After knocking on the door, he walked inside the room and noticed Veronica seated with a familiar person.

"Andre Jackson!" He called in disbelief.

"You too know each other?" Veronica asked, seeing Jackson smiling heavily.

Andre Jackson was a top executive producer in the film industry and a highly respected man. Seeing him in Thorne group of companies was surprising to Cassian.

"Have you finished working on the document?" Veronica asked.

"I was working on it but you interrupted me with the call." Cassian explained but even his explanation didn't sit well with Veronica.

She stretched her hand demanding for the documents in Cassian's hand.

He hesitated and after taking a quick look at Andre Johnson, he hands the documents over to her.

"I am tired of your incompetence. How can you be so dumb?" Veronica yelled, while staring at the paper.

Cassian wished he could disappear from the face of the earth with the embarrassing statement she was issuing to him.

He couldn't look at Andre Johnson in the eye because he was ashamed of himself. Being reduced from the top guy in the company to a puppet.

"Mr. Andre needs a driver. So I was thinking you could take the job and drive him across the city." Veronica revealed.

"What!"

"Mrs. Veronica, you don't have to bother about it. I am sure Cassian Throne has bigger duties to perform in the company. I will find someone else." Andre said with a gentle smile on his face.

"Are you sure about it? He could be a good driver." Veronica asked.

"I am sure." Andre said and immediately checked his wrist watch. "I have an appointment with the Mayor. I will be on my way."

Andre rose to his feet and approached Cassian. "Also can I have a word with him?" He asked, turning to face Veronica.

"Absolutely Mr. Andre." She said with a smile.

Cassian and Andre both walked out of the office. They said no words to each other as they head over to the elevator.

As the elevator door opened, Cassian comes face to face with his father who was stepping out.

"Mr. Andre Johnson. What a pleasure to meet with you once again." Reginald said, extending his hand.

"The pleasure is mine." He replied and shook his hand. "Why is your son an assistant to one of your investors?"

Reginald looked at Cassian, who sighed and looked away. He felt absolutely ashamed because he had always been held in high regards.

"My company has been undergoing a strange face over the past few months now. Miss Veronica came in and made a good offer to float my company with the condition that my son be her personal assistant."

After his explanation, there was an abrupt silence and Andre looked at Cassian. "You have to find a way out of this mess. I felt really ashamed for you when she was yelling."

"Something will be done about the situation. For now we just have to endure." Reginald replied.

Cassian couldn't believe the words of his father. He tried keeping it cool after Andre bade them a fair well and walked away.

"A time is going to come father and I am going to handle Veronica Steele by myself." Cassian warned and walked off.
