Chapter 2 Crashing down

Sonya's POV

*****

Callum finally seemed to come back to his senses after I barged into his office, his eyebrows furrowing into a frown as he gently shoved Amanda off his body while glaring at me.

"What the fuck do you think you're doing here?" He queried, dimming his eyes as he walked around his table and headed toward me, not even bothering to arrange his slightly undone buttons.

I felt my attempt at breathing getting harder and harder as I watched the man I called my husband walk toward me with contempt in his eyes as his gaze trailed my body.

"Well? Have you suddenly gone deaf or mute?"

I clenched my jaw, glancing back only to see Amanda standing behind Callum on the other side of the office with a sly smirk on her face.

Enough is enough.

"C– Callum, you cheated on me. You've been cheating on me all this while?" I queried, my chest tightening and my stomach turning as if I was about to throw up.

I shouldn't be subjecting myself to this kind of stress right now that I am pregnant.

Just then, Callum scoffed, the disdain and spite in his gaze clear as he responded. "Cheat? How's it cheating when there was barely even a marriage in the first place? Not to mention the fact that you have never been the one my heart wanted."

He glanced back, smiling at Amanda who giggled before she waved at him playfully, ignoring my existence entirely.

My heart felt like it was failing and at this point, I didn't know what to say or do anymore.

Tears began trickling down my face like a waterfall as I slowly stepped forward and stretched my hands toward Callum, my chest heaving with each breath I took.

"And what do you think you're doing now?" He questioned mockingly, disregarding my tears as he scoffed. "Why are you still here anyway? Ugh, this bitch is ruining my birthday!"

He sounded pissed off but fortunately for me, he didn't do anything when I finally grabbed his right arm with both my hands, forcing him to look into my eyes as I kept on crying and sniffling.

I parted my lips repeatedly to speak, but my voice came out in croaks filled with my sobs, and it was getting harder to breathe. It was as if my lifeline had been cut.

"Babe, get the bitch to stop holding you already!" Amanda's voice echoed from behind Callum as if to add insult to my already festering wound.

I couldn't take any more of this.

"C– Callum," I muttered, sniffling hard to clear the snort in my nose and also to catch my breath. "D– Do you even love me? Even if it's just a... Even if it's just a li–"

Suddenly, without warning, Callum yanked his arm out of my grip, causing me to lose my balance since I'd subconsciously been putting my weight into holding him.

I fell face first to the floor, landing hard and even sending a sharp pain in both my arms and also my head.

"You delusional little bitch." Callum spat on my body despite my position on the ground, his voice dripping with hatred. "Get this into your thick skull. What we have is nothing more than an arranged marriage from our parents. I was never under any obligation to love you. How could I?"

I gasped, struggling to catch my breath as I heard Amanda's footsteps approaching just then.

My right hand went to my stomach, clutching it tight as my eyes fluttered weakly. A sharp pain shot through my stomach, causing me to squirm and gasp from the pain as my lips trembled.

"H– Help me," I said weakly, my voice weak.

It was then that my right hand went underneath my legs, and I discovered something that sent shivers down my spine.

I was bleeding!

"Oh, babe. Just drag the bitch out of your office and dump her there." Amanda's annoying voice remarked but it was becoming distant with each passing second.

I tried raising my head to get a view of the office and the people towering above me but that was almost impossible as my eyes turned.

"I didn't even touch her." Callum sneered with contempt, but those were the last words I heard before everything went black.

~~~~~
"She's waking up, doctor!"
"Oh, thank goodness. The poor thing is lucky to be alive."
"Call her husband and get him in here, please."
My eyes struggled to open as I felt my attempts at breathing getting better again. However, when I smelt the unwelcome scent of drugs and stared at the white ceiling, I realized where I was soon enough.
I was in the hospital.
"Madam?" A calm female voice spoke up from beside me just then, forcing me to slowly turn my head to its source.
Standing beside my bed was a female doctor with short black hair, a stethoscope around her neck, and a smile on her face as she brought down the log book in her hands.
"How are you feeling, madam?" The doctor asked, her voice soft and patient.
How am I feeling?
It was at that moment that I began remembering my encounter with Callum and how I had fallen on the floor and... And the blood!
When I remembered all that, a skull-splitting headache assaulted my head, forcing me to grit my teeth as I struggled to even look at the doctor.
"You don't have to sit up." The doctor said reassuringly, placing her hands on my shoulder. "Just relax. We're going to–"
Just then, I heard the door swing open and footsteps approaching, followed by another female voice speaking up.
"Her husband refuses to show up, ma'am." The voice whispered, but I was still able to hear it, and my heart broke once again.
Callum had dumped me here in the hospital and wasn't bothered in the slightest to check up on me.
Anyway, after a back and forth between the doctors and nurses, the kind female doctor finally came to my side and broke some news that shattered my heart once again.
"Madam, I'm sorry to say you miscarried and we could not save the baby."
My world came crashing down completely with these words.
