Chapter 5 Day Saves Night.

Two weeks passed very quickly after that. Jayden had long pushed Marcus to the recess of his memories the way he always had.

Jayden was startled awake by his alarm clock. He rolled around a bit before putting it off. With a sigh, he dragged himself off the bed.

If he did not have to redraft his proposal this morning, he would not have even bothered waking up this early. Jayden hurriedly dressed and left his house. Even though Jayden was very early, he dared not take a bus. He flagged a taxi just outside his apartment and entered.

After indicating where he intended to go, Jayden took out his laptop and started working. It seems he was bound to bad luck, the moment he stepped into the office; he met Fin from team two.

"You should have stayed back and gotten some beauty sleep," Fin said.

"If you have time to worry about me, you should put more effort into your proposals, maybe you would have more notable works by then," Jayden said, walking away from Fin's desk to hers.

"Just a few proposals and you think you are the director. Look, I have been here longer than you, rushing will lead to failures." Fin said and took his seat. "But I think you should be in a hurry though, you have been here so long without a promotion. I would be frantic if I were you," Jayden snorted and continued with his work ignoring Fin, who sneered out a curse.

Before Jayden could immerse him in his work, the Director walked out and invited them both to his office.

"I have seen both of your drafts. Though you are not done, we are already going to pick which direction we will be going," the director said to them.

"But Sir..." Fin started to say.

"Hear me out," the director stopped him, "the higher ups have approved going with yours, Lucy," he said and Fin launched the air in victory

"May I ask why?" Jayden asked.

"Yours is too hard to execute," he answered, and the slight smile on Fin's face widened even more.

"I already have an appointment with the creative director, Ronald Hayes; can't the decision wait till my meeting with him?" Jayden asked and the director paused.

"As in, Ronald Hayes? Do you really have an appointment?" he asked.

"Yes, confirmed by his assistant," Jayden answered, and the director nodded. "I will inform the higher ups, so go ahead to your appointment, but until then, you are helping Fin out," he instructed, and Fin snorted.

"You actually think you can get Ronald Hayes to come on board? Keep dreaming." He sneered and walked past Jayden. Jayden looked away. He knew he could get Ronald Hayes. After all, Ronald was his friend.

The afternoon went on till all the staff gathered at the lobby to welcome the new boss. Jayden had heard word that the company had been bought. Many people gathered, but Jayden just happened to be in front.

He was discussing with a colleague when the Vice president stepped forward to greet someone.

Jayden looked up to find it was Marcus Night. His face immediately fell.

He was not sure if Marcus had seen him, but he was betting on the company being massive. But fate laughed the second time. Jayden stepped into an elevator and Marcus and his assistant were already inside.

Jayden stepped back out to let the door close but Marcus held the door with his feet. For what felt like a minute, they had a silent standoff till Jayden stepped into the elevator.

Jayden kept his face forward and did not bother acknowledging Marcus but he could feel Marcus's eyes on him. Before stepping off,

Marcus closed the distance between them by taking two steps forward till he was towering right behind Jayden.

Then he lowered his head and whispered into Jayden's ear.

"You don't need to avoid me so much. We are not kids anymore.

Why are you afraid I will eat you?" he said, his breath grazing Jayden's ears, making him turn stiff. Marcus did not wait for his answer. He straightened and left the elevator.

They did not meet anymore after that as Jayden became more careful. Jayden had no intention of ever meeting Marcus again afterwards, but fate laughed the third time.

On one night returning from delivering documents, Jayden strolled into a part of the city he had never been to before. He cursed his boss with every step he took.

Suddenly, he caught sounds of gunshots and froze. Jayden wasted no time in breaking into a run. He soon felt that running on the open road was too risky so he dashed into an alley and continued without stopping.

Just when Jayden thought he could not run anymore as his energy was low, he tripped over something hard on the floor and almost fell face first into the concrete.

He struggled to get up, only to notice that something gripped tightly to his ankles. The low street lamp shuns a light on Marcus's bloody form.

Jayden's head spun. Marcus? Why was he here? No he could not think about him right now, he needed to leave. Jayden attempted to free himself but Marcus's grip was tight.

"Let go!" Jayden said though his teeth, but Marcus's grip was like a steel clam and Jayden's weaker hands could not pry them off him ankles. Jayden suppressed the urge to curse.

"If you don't let go, I will punish you," Jayden warned. The barely conscious Marcus opened his eyes sharply and met Jayden's.

Just when Jayden thought he would let go, he held in tighter.

"Alright then, punish me," he said and Jayden stilled and gulped down spit. If Marcus wants not literally on his last breath, Jayden would have thought he was flirting.

Jayden had to admit that for a dying man, Marcus looked seductive. Or was he not dying and just slightly injured? He looked too alert to be bleeding out.

"No?" Marcus asked, "Then come closer." He said, dragging Jayden to himself in one big motion.

"Then, I'll punish you," Marcus said and claimed his lips.
