Chapter 5 The Abuse

KAYLA.

I grew up in an orphanage and Life hasn't always been good to me. It was cold, cruel, and full of monsters disguised as people.

"Kayla, the dumb girl. Get on your knees now and lick my shoes off." Ariel said, sticking out her foot towards me, who was already kneeling, on the cold, cracked floor.

I bowed my head and she let out a satisfied smirk.

"Lick it."She commanded and I bent forward, doing as told immediately. I shivered, unable to stop the tears stinging my eyes, my tongue stretching out to lick the dirt on her shoes.

"Gross! So dirty." Other kids cried out as they watched me, their noses scrunched up into disgust. Just as I was about to continue, Ariel raised up her leg intentionally, hitting my nose hard.

I cried out in pain, falling to the ground and holding it, as other kids pointed at me and laughed.

"You are so weird and weak. Why can't you act normal like everyone else?" Ariel yelled, before spitting on me and departing with her minions, other kids following and leaving me behind.

I lay there on the floor, my little hands holding my nose which was already bleeding, tears streaming down my face as blood trickled between my fingers.

A sharp, throbbing pain pulsed through my nostrils, making it hard for me to breathe.

"It hurts... it hurts, mum....dad.....where are you?" I sobbed between gasps, my voice choked and trembling. I just wanted the pain to stop, but just then, I heard large footsteps coming towards my way.

"Kayla, Kayla, where is this little brat?" I heard Mrs. Popkins, our maiden, who looked after us, yell out my name. My eyes widened in horror, and I immediately tried to get up from the floor, ignoring my bleeding nose.

As soon as I got to my feet, trying to dust my clothes while letting my blood drip to the floor in the process, Mrs. Popkins arrived and immediately she saw the mess I made, she scowled.

"How dare you?" She yelled, gritting her teeth against one another as she dashed towards me and landed a slap to my face which sent me rearing backward.

It stung so much, my cheeks as I took my hand to them, trying to hold back my tears, my head bowed as usual.

"You just can't do anything right. What is the usefulness of your existence then? No wonder your parents had to abandon you."She said the same words; she never failed to tell me every day, and more tears gushed out of my eyes, my little heart clenching in pain.

"Clean this mess now, wipe every filthy blood that came out of you." She ordered, before walking past me, her head raised high, not battling an eyelid I was injured.

My legs grew weak and I collapsed to the ground, letting it all out.

'Why did I have to be so disappointing?'

'Perhaps if I wasn't weak and pretty like Ariel, they would love me, and my mum and dad wouldn't have left me here.'I thought to myself, feeling my eyes go blurry from too many tears, my hands wrapped tightly around my body as I blinked repeatedly, trying to stay conscious so I could clean up the mess.

Otherwise, Mrs. Popkins would punish me.

The next day.

"Yay!". Children screamed as they packed their things happily, not being able to control their excitement at the thought they had just been adopted, while I sat in a corner, my hands folded into my laps as my eyes dropped to my feet.

Every Thursday, at the orphanage, Parents always came to adopt kids, but sadly, I was never among the chosen ones.

Every week, I had to watch my mates or even older ones get picked as I was being ignored.

That made life even worse for me here at this place, as I was looked down upon because I was a weak omega. I had no scent of a wolf, more like a human so yes, I was despised here.

I became a maid, while other kids were treated like princes and princesses. Other children stayed far away from me like I was some sort of plague, while others, like Ariel, bullied me.

All these were all the more reasons I wanted to get out of here. Most times, I tried hijacking parents to show how kind and great I was, but still it never worked.

Rather, they felt disgusted often, and the heads of the orphanage, especially Mrs. Popkins, would punish me hard.

"Ariel, here is Alpha Kane; he went through your profile, and he is interested in adopting you." I heard Mrs. Popkins telling Ariel as she walked into the room with a tall, kind-looking, man who was smiling down at her.

My heart skipped a beat as I stared at him in awe.

'He was an Alpha? WOW! Ariel was so lucky.' I thought.

"As always." My subconscious whispered and I bit my lower lips hard, feeling my heart cracking.

"Stop looking at him, Elara. he is going to be my daddy, not yours. Nobody wants a loser like you." Ariel screamed noticing my stare, as she turned to glare at me, fierceness in her eyes.

My hands shook as I clenched tightly to my dress, shrinking further into the dark corner I was in.

"I am sorry." I whimpered, looking away from her immediately as goosebumps covered my body.

"Who is that?" I heard the man ask, his deep voice resonating through the room; other kids stopped what they were doing to turn and concentrate on him, their eyes filled with adoration.

I wanted to take a peek too but I was terrified Ariel would hit me again.

"No one important, Alpha Kane, here is Ariel, the girl you pick.....". Mrs. Popkins tried diverting his attention when he caught her off.

"I insist." He told her, his tone firm as he moved, his footsteps coming closer to me. My heart raced, tears rushing to the brim of my eyelids as I moved closer to the wall as if it would open and take me away.
