Chapter 4 HANG IN THERE

HANG IN THERE

"Hello, How did you get here? It's so dangerous at night, Can you hear me? Ophelia asked with a little panic

When she didn't get a response anymore, she knew she had to act quickly if she wanted to save this man. How can she save him? She was just a girl and didn't have much ability; she had been learning how to fight for defense lately, but it didn't mean she could lift a grown adult. She thought of stopping the bleeding first; she took out her scarf and wrapped it around the injured leg, then summoned the courage to carry him on her back.

Though the man was not fully conscious he could still hear the sound of someone lifting him up. The sweet fragrance of Ophelia hit his nostrils. "This scent,," he thought.

"Hang in there a little longer. I'll get you to the hospital as soon as possible ", Ophelia said, breathing heavily because of the weight. She flagged a taxi immediately after she got to the road, and luckily for her, there was one coming in her direction

"Where are you heading to Miss?" The taxi driver asked

"Take me to the nearest hospital right now, and help me. He's bleeding profusely,," Ophelia said with a rus,h, almost shouting.

The taxi driver, sensing the urgency, helped her hop in and drove towards the nearest hospital.

There was a full moon that night, and the street was buzzing with so many people. The street light made it brighter and gave the night a profound view. The street light shone on the man through the window of the taxi and she could get a clearer view of his face. His eyes were closed and his lashes were as long and soft as that of a feather, His well-chiseled face and defined lips, smooth skin made him look like he was just carved out of a beauty cave though he was sweating and winced here and there, one cannot deny the air he carried, his outstanding aura, making him look like a demi-god.

Ophelia swallowed hard. She shouldn't be thinking of sorts when his life was at stake, but it wasn't her fault that he looked so handsome. Before long they arrived at the hospital and were rushed to the ER center

The nurses hurriedly brought out the gurney also known as a stretcher coupled with a first aid kit, seeing the emergency of the patient everywhere became disorganized

"Administer morphine to him immediately; there's a bullet in his shoulder area." Call the doctor on board and tell him the situation on the ground, we'll be needing immediate surgery to remove the bullet" One of the nurses said hurriedly after examining him

"Bullet?" That was when it dawned on Ophelia. She looked at her clothes, it was drenched with so much blood that she almost spat out.

"Gosh! How come I didn't notice? Will he be alright? She thought.

Who is his family member? I'll need you to sign in this space so we can proceed with the surgery. Before Ophelia could even process the question she heard a sharp hurried voice.

"I am," A man in his mid-twenties said with a hurried step. He appeared as an important figure and you cannot mess with him. He wore a gray color suit and pants; he took the document and signed it. Just then the doctor in charge of the surgery came out. After observing the patient he furrowed his brows immediately.

" Milton!" This is unusual he thought to himself

Into the Operating room now! Let's proceed with the surgery immediately, he said. He lifted up his head and nodded at the man in gray pants. The man in gray pants felt a little bit uneasy, like they knew each other, with clear observation, one could notice the tense atmosphere between the two.

************************

Ophelia sat in the corridor of the Operating room. She needed to go and change but one part of her wanted to be sure that he was alright before heading home. The man in a gray suit and pants walked up to her when he got to know that she was the one who brought him; after sorting out the room, Mr Milton was going to receive the rest of his treatment.

"Hi, I'm Roland by name; thanks for saving him on time. I really appreciate it; I owe you a lot. He said smiling as he sat down close to her.

"My pleasure. I just happened to be of help because of the state of emergency, and I am glad I was there on time. Ophelia replied slightly tired

Roland brought out a check and gave it to Ophelia "Mr. Milton doesn't like being indebted to people, Please take this check as a token of appreciation"

"No thank you, I just did it out of genuine concern and please don't force it on me," Ophelia said smiling

Roland felt deeply touched; in normal circumstances, people would always prefer money over anything,g, but she seemed different.

"Alright then, I wouldn't force it against your will, but you wouldn't mind accepting this business card, right? You can call the number on it whenever you need help or assistance" Roland said

"Okay, this feels much better. I'll take it," Ophelia replied, collecting the business card, but she noticed that this card was different from a regular card; the inscription and all was screaming elegance and wealth. Who are these people, she thought to herself? Just then, the Operating room opened, and Dr Rollins came out, removing his gloves. Roland walked steadily to him and asked "How is he doing?"

"The surgery was successful, and he would be transferred to the ward any moment from now," Dr. Rollins said and was about to leave when Roland said, "I must not find anything out of the line." Dr Rollins stopped in his tracks and said to him, "At least not for now." Then he left afterward.

The nurses rolled out the stretcher in the direction of the VIP ward that was reserved for Milton and placed everything in order, which included prescribing the drugs to Roland to give him when he woke up and then went out.

When Ophelia was sure that he was alright she headed straight home to wash up and bath, luckily for her it was the weekend the next day

When Roland came out of the ward, he didn't see Ophelia and was a little bit disappointed, knowing his boss would ask the person who saved him if there was a little consciousness left before he passed out-he sighed and then went ahead to give instructions.

"Team C should be on standby at the ward and must not leave until the boss is well-fit; nobody is allowed to enter the ward. Do you understand?" Roland said

"Yes sir" they replied in unison

When he had heard their reassurance he went straight to the company to sort things out. At this time, the company was in chaos, and the phone line was ringing nonstop.
