Chapter 6 Go hunting

The night was still long, and their pleasure had only just begun. As two inexperienced wolves tasting the forbidden fruit for the first time, they reveled in the overwhelming joy of intimacy and naturally had no intention of stopping.

From the cliffside to the depths of the cave, they clung to each other, instinctively exploring countless positions to make their union even more exhilarating. It wasn't until dawn approached that Cara, completely spent, nestled into Gray Wolf's arms and drifted into a deep sleep.

The next morning, as sunlight streamed through the leaves, the two of them woke up to a gnawing hunger. After last night's intense activities, their energy had been drained quickly. Even though they hadn't gotten enough sleep, their empty stomachs still pulled them from their slumber.

Cara sleepily opened her eyes and found herself nestled in a warm embrace. Instead of sitting up, she instinctively snuggled closer against his strong, heat-radiating body. Waking up with someone beside her was a completely new experience, but she didn't resist it. On the contrary, she felt a surge of joy and excitement. From now on, she would no longer be a lone wolf. She would hunt for him, bear him many pups, and together, their pack would only grow stronger.

"What are you smiling about like that?" Grey Wolf had been awake for a while, quietly watching Cara. When he saw the joyful smile on her lips, he couldn't hold back his curiosity and asked.

Cara looked at him, her eyes filled with nothing but affection and trust.

"Mate, I love you." It was a phrase she had just learned last night. Since her mate seemed to enjoy hearing it, she didn't mind saying it a little more.

Grey Wolf couldn't resist her innocent and adorable expression. He lowered his head and kissed her lips.

Cara responded with passionate enthusiasm, immediately wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him back. Their bare bodies entwined on the bed, reluctant to part.

But soon after, the sound of two hungry stomachs rumbling broke the moment. Cara pouted and sent a mind link to Grey Wolf,

'Mate, hungry.'

The instinct to hunt was deeply ingrained in the blood of a powerful Alpha wolf. Hearing his mate's hunger, Grey Wolf immediately felt the urge to prove his strength, to bring her the fattest, most delicious prey. He wanted her to know just how capable he was. As his mate, she would never have to go hungry.

At Grey Wolf's urging, Cara reluctantly sat up, still reluctant to part from his warmth. She slipped on her leather dress, then carefully picked out a large hide and wrapped it around his waist.

The two wolves stepped out of the cave as the morning sun filtered through the treetops, casting a golden glow on their vibrant bodies. The crisp air carried the fresh scent of grass, leaves, and the faint traces of wildlife.

Grey Wolf took the lead, his sharp amber eyes sweeping over the forest, ears tuned to even the slightest sound. Cara walked beside him, resting a gentle hand on his strong arm, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.

Suddenly, Grey Wolf stopped, his ears twitching. A strange yet enticing scent drifted into his nose. Cara caught it too, and her eyes lit up with excitement as she looked at him.

No words were needed, they understood each other perfectly. Silently, they crept forward. Pushing through a dense thicket, they spotted a massive moose grazing by a small stream.

Grey Wolf lowered his stance, muscles coiled in anticipation. He waited patiently, ready to shift into his wolf form and strike the moment the prey let its guard down. His fangs eager to tear into its throat.

But before Grey Wolf could do anything, Cara had already made her move. She pulled out a pouch of powdered herbs from her leather bag, positioned herself upwind, and sprinkled it toward the moose.

The faint rustling sound caught the animal's attention. Sensing danger, it panicked and tried to run. But after only a few steps, its legs gave out, and it collapsed onto the ground.

Cara jumped up in excitement, while Grey Wolf stared at the scene, unconsciously muttering,

"Witch."

Cara tilted her head, confused.

'Witch? What's that?'

Grey Wolf frowned, searching for the right words. A few seconds later, a thought surfaced:

"Dark magic. Dangerous."

Realizing what he meant, Cara quickly shook her head.

"It's not magic. It's dried stink bug leaves."

That was the name she had given the plant since its smell reminded her of stink bugs.

Without another word, she dashed toward the motionless moose. When mixed with certain ingredients in the right proportions, stink bug leaves could temporarily paralyze muscles, making the victim unable to move. But the effect didn't last long, if she didn't act fast, the moose would get back on its feet and escape.

Once she was close enough, Cara used a knife carved from bone to finish off the prey.

Grey Wolf stood there, completely stunned. He hadn't even had the chance to show off his hunting skills, and the hunt was already over.

Cara had no idea he'd been hoping to impress her. Through their mind link, he heard her excited voice calling out,

'Mate, eat! Mate, eat!'

He let out a helpless smile, walked over to her, and praised,

"Cara is amazing!"

Cara straightened up proudly, her chin lifted high, clearly pleased with herself.

"But Cara, hunting is my job. From now on, you just need to sit back and enjoy the meal."

She frowned, looking at him in confusion.

Through their bond, her puzzled voice echoed in his mind,

'Why?'

Grey Wolf smiled, gently running his fingers through her dark hair as he said softly,

"I don't want you to struggle. Before, when you were alone, you had to do everything yourself. But now you have me, I want to take care of you."

Those words were so comforting. What he meant was that she was no longer alone, she had her Mate by her side, someone to take care of her, so she wouldn't have to work hard anymore. The thought filled Cara's mind, bringing her immense joy.

"Mm!" She nodded enthusiastically, showing her wholehearted agreement.

Grey Wolf let Cara rest while he handled the prey, then expertly started a fire and roasted the meat. But Cara wasn't one to sit still. She ran into the forest to gather some wild berries and greens to eat alongside the meat.

Once the meat was cooked, Cara took out some coarse salt from her pouch and sprinkled it on top. The preparation was simple, but the fresh meat still tasted delicious.

By the time they finished breakfast, it was already midday. Grey Wolf carried the leftover meat back to the cave for their evening meal.

With some free time in the afternoon, Cara pulled Grey Wolf along to gather stink bug leaves. She dried them over a stone pan, then mixed them with various minerals she had previously collected to create a muscle-paralyzing poison.

Even though her Mate had said he would take care of hunting, old habits were hard to break. She had spent years surviving on her own, and without a few poisons on hand, she felt uneasy.

It was only then that Grey Wolf finally realized the so-called "magic" Cara had used was nothing more than a mixture of herbs and minerals. It wasn't mysterious or dangerous at all, nothing like what he had imagined.
