Chapter 4 The Glittering Flower

Outside the cave, the moon hung high in the sky, full, round, and unusually large. The entire Gloomwood Forest was bathed in a layer of silver light, making everything appear both mysterious and magical.

Cara stood at the entrance of her cave, tilting her head back to gaze up at the steep cliffside. About fifteen or sixteen feet above her, a strange plant clung to the rock face. It was a grass-like herb with long, lance-shaped leaves sprouting directly from the stone.

But what truly caught her attention was the pair of flowers growing from it. One was still a tightly closed bud, while the other had fully bloomed. The open blossom was as large as the fist of a full-grown werewolf, resembling a lily in shape, except its petals were a deep, blood-red hue.

Even more astonishing, under the pale moonlight, the flower shimmered as if sprinkled with stardust, glowing with an ethereal beauty beyond words.

'Mate, bloomed!' Cara sent an excited mind link to Grey Wolf.

She had lived in this cave for a long time, and the plant had always been there, unchanging. Year after year, through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, it neither bloomed nor withered.

Then, just over a year ago, she noticed it had begun to bud. The process was slow, almost imperceptible, as the flower grew little by little.

And now, on the very day she brought her Mate home, it had finally bloomed.

Cara knew this had to be fate. Her Mate needed this flower to cure the poison, and on this very night, it had finally bloomed, almost as if it were welcoming him.

Grey Wolf was captivated by its beauty. "Cara, what kind of flower is this?" he asked.

'Don't know,' she tilted her head, thinking for a moment before grinning. "The Glimmering Flower? It sparkles... so pretty!'

That was just how Cara named plants, on a whim, calling them whatever felt right in the moment.

Grey Wolf chuckled at her innocent way of thinking.

"So, you wanted to show me this flower?"

She nodded and explained, 'Mate eats, poison gone, wolf stronger!'

His eyes immediately lit up.

"You're saying if I eat this flower, the poison in my body will disappear... and I'll become even stronger?"

Cara squinted her eyes in a joyful smile and nodded enthusiastically.

Grey Wolf was beyond excited at the news, but there was a problem. The flower was in a nearly impossible spot. The cliff face was almost vertical. If he were in human form, he might have been able to climb up using the small ledges as footholds.

But right now, he was in wolf form. And like this, there was no way he could reach it.

He looked at Cara and met her unwavering gaze. A surge of anxiety gripped his heart.

"Cara, no! It's too dangerous!"

His mate was a delicate Omega, how could he possibly let her take such a risk?

But she shook her head, her stance firm as she responded with determination.

'Mate... cure poison.'

She meant that Grey Wolf needed this flower, and she would get it for him no matter what.

Before he could stop her, she pushed off the ground and leaped onto the rock face, gripping the cliffside as she began to climb. Her bare feet found purchase on the narrow ledges, and sharp claws extended from her fingertips, digging into the rough stone to keep her steady. She moved slowly but with unwavering control.

Grey Wolf's entire body tensed with worry. Every muscle in him was coiled tight, ready to spring forward and catch her the moment anything went wrong.

The cliff was steep and unforgiving, with barely any footholds. Then, without warning, a loose rock beneath Cara's foot crumbled away.

She lost her balance and fell.

A startled cry escaped her lips, and for a brief second, fear flashed in her gray-blue eyes. She braced herself for the sharp pain of impact, but instead, she landed against something warm and solid.

Thick, soft fur enveloped her, carrying the familiar scent of pine resin and forest wood - her Mate.

She was lucky. Aside from a few scrapes on her arm from the rough rock, she was unharmed.

Grey Wolf, however, was anything but calm. His heart pounded wildly, his mind consumed by the image of her small form tumbling down the cliffside.

Through their mate bond, Cara could feel Grey Wolf's unease and distress.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, nuzzling her face against his muzzle as she reassured him.

'No pain.'

Grey Wolf pinned her beneath his massive form, his rough tongue sweeping over her repeatedly as if trying to soothe the lingering fear in his heart.

Cara remained still, allowing him to lick her face until it was completely drenched. Only then did she sit up, ready to climb again.

But Grey Wolf bit the edge of her leather dress and pulled her back.

She had to comfort him once more.

'No fear. Mate here... no pain.'

She meant that with him below, even if she fell, she would be fine.

Seeing her unwavering determination, Grey Wolf had no choice but to relent.

He watched as she climbed the cliff again, his sharp eyes wide, tracking her every movement, scanning the surroundings as if he could ward off any danger just by sheer focus.

This time, Cara reached the plant without trouble. Clinging tightly to the rock with one hand, she stretched the other out, fingertips grazing the vivid red petals that shimmered under the silver moonlight.

Only then did she realize there were actually three flowers on the bush. One was still a tiny bud, barely noticeable unless seen up close.

Carefully, she plucked the fully bloomed flower. Then, with a bright, triumphant smile, she held it up for Grey Wolf, proudly showing off her prize.

Crack.

The rock supporting her weight suddenly gave way, and Cara plummeted again.

But this time, Grey Wolf was ready. He lunged forward, catching her effortlessly. With the strength of an Alpha, breaking her fall from sixteen feet was nothing. He didn't even flinch when their bodies collided.

Cara landed in his thick fur, a little dizzy but absolutely thrilled.

"Mate, eat." She was so excited that she spoke out loud, holding up the vibrant red flower right to Grey Wolf's mouth.

He let out a sigh but didn't argue, opening his jaws to take the delicate bloom from her hand. As he chewed, the soft petals melted on his tongue, carrying a faint sweetness, just like their scent.

The moment the flower slid down his throat, a sudden heat spread through his entire body.

Grey Wolf shuddered. But the warmth wasn't unpleasant, it felt like an ancient power awakening inside him. It flowed through his veins, wrapped around his muscles, and merged with his wolf blood. His heartbeat pounded harder, his blood roared like wildfire, burning with raw energy.

Cara watched in awe. Under the silver moonlight, his ash-gray fur looked even thicker, each strand catching the light like it had been dusted with stardust. His amber eyes flickered, and for a split second, a spark of lightning flashed deep in his pupils.

Strength surged through him, flooding every inch of his being. The lingering pain from the poison was completely gone, replaced by a rush of power, like he'd been reborn.

Overcome with exhilaration, he leaped onto a high boulder, threw his head back, and let out a long, thunderous howl.

The trees of Gloomwood shuddered as flocks of startled birds burst from their nests, their wings flapping wildly against the night sky.

On the ground, small creatures scattered in fear, fleeing from the call of a primal Alpha.
