Chapter 5 Stabbed right in the heart

Chapter 5

She stood in absolute pain as the scald on her hand began to spread, courtesy of the redhead's grip dragging her up from the seat.

Why would this woman pour hot coffee on her when she'd done nothing to offend her?

She sighed, struggling to release herself from the redhead's grasp.

"I am the new Fashion Manager, and I am newly employed by the CEO," Karen stated, trying to assert her authority.

The redhead scoffed, her expression disdainful. "Hah, the CEO, what a joke? He would not employ the likes of you. He must have thrown you out, and you sneaked your way in."

The other three employees in the office watched the drama unfold, their faces unapologetically happy about the scene.

This was not the first time she'd been put in a bad position, to make her lose everything she'd just gained.

But this woman underestimated her.

"Do you know that you not only soiled my dress and burnt me, but also the documents on the desk you just spilled your worthless coffee on. They are the recent draft work the company has with a well-known brand across the country." she retorted, her anger rising.

The redhead began laughing hysterically, her fingers twisting her hair. "And so, who's obviously going to take the blame for that?"

She realized that the only witnesses to this were those conspiring against her. What would she say if the secretary to Lucas found out what had happened to the documents? She rushed to the desk, trying to save the soiled papers, but they were already soaked brown.

Just then, a familiar voice interrupted the chaos. "What's going on here?" It was the secretary, approaching from the entrance.

Her heart skipped a few beats as she contemplated her explanation. The secretary's eyes widened as she observed the scene, her eyes settling on the soiled papers and the burn on her hand.

"I'm asking what happened here!" the secretary demanded.

The redhead quickly played the victim card, trying to stir up the situation further. "Miss Dee, it was her, I tried to greet her, but she was so aggressive with me and pushed me, and my coffee burnt her by mistake. As I tried to explain, she hit me and said a lot of mean things."

"No, that is not true. She did this on purpose, there are no marks even on her face. I'm new, why would I want to endanger my position" she retorted in defense lifting her gaze at the secretary

The secretary interrupted her, her expression sternly frowning at the redhead.

"Why would you burn someone with your coffee, and it has been a policy to never bring in liquid drinks during work hours."

Deena knew Karen was telling the truth, all of the workers could be saucy but this redhead actually kept pure malice for anyone and everyone she disliked. Other workers could bear testimony to that.

She tried to defend herself, but the secretary cut her off. "Your weekend break is off till the third month, and no break for the holiday periods for you. Those soiled papers, replace them with a new one, and work on the draft."

The redhead's face contorted in horror as she tried to plead her way out of the punishment. The secretary turned to Karen, her expression softer. "You, you're a new employee. You should know to handle company properties with the utmost care. I could sue you for damage to property, but I will not, since Lucas personally gave you this job. Now, come with me."

She followed the secretary, feeling a sense of calm rush over her as the situation died down. They stopped at a restroom, where the secretary tended to her burn, applying Band-Aids and ointment.

"Be careful over here; so many do not like your presence," the secretary warned, a smile on her face as she left.

She gathered her thoughts, feeling frustrated.

Why was everything so complicated?

As she moved back to her desk, she felt the cold stares of her coworkers. This was not the start she'd hoped for

"What a way to have a first day at work"

She muttered within herself, her hands still sore from the impact of the scald.

She imputed some data into the system but the majority of her work was already handled.

With no work left to do, courtesy of Miss Dee's decision, she packed her bags about heading out when she recieved an email on the system.

"My office in 2 minutes" CEO MILLER!

Was he really asking to see her at this point, maybe it was something concerning work but if it was he would have probably texted.

Her heart sank, she thought she would not have to see him at all but fate had other plans for her.

The stream of guilt tugged at her chest, tightening it further. Her heart was racing, her palms frosty as she approached the receptionist in guidance to the CEO's office.

The receptionist was wide eyed at the request. She was a newbie, why would the CEO want to see her?

She gave directions but did not fail to spread the news like a radio station.

Karen walked to the elevator as it chimed open and she entered into its luminating warm brightness.

She pressed the buttons leading to the last floor.

Once she got to the last floor, she stepped out once the doors reopened, moving to the door that bore the Chief Executive officer as the sign.

The moment she looked down at her feet the temperature dropped several degrees lower.

"Karen Eve Spencer" the cold, husky voice said her name, his tone flat and indifferent and his voice sending a shiver down her spine.

When she looked up to reply, his face was visible and her eyes widened...It was Lucas...it was really him. Her thoughts that he was the CEO were confirmed.

Her whole body stiffened at the sight of his imposing figure, and her once held confidence began to waver as she struggled to meet his gaze.

"Yes...Sir" she managed to mutter a reply and soon stood straight to face him finally.

"Why do you look like a person on the verge of death..." His icy tone caught her off guard. He called her to his office stating she had to be here in two minutes, her mind had run to serious work or projects.

"I do not understand what you mean by that sir..." She responded with the utmost confusing and oblivious tone but she knew there was no fooling him. She turned around quickly and let her decisive spirit take over as she attempted to leave the office.

"Stop and do not take another step..." he stopped her from moving further as she felt his figure closing in on her.

Her weight began to shift as she struggled to maintain her stance.

"I thought you ran off with King, where is that bastard and why are you looking like this." His voice began building up almost with a hint of rage. His footsteps deemed he was getting closer and before she could take off, he grabbed her aggressively pushing her back against the wall.

"I did not run off with king and I have no idea where he is" she struggled to let the words out as his hands dangerously pressed against her face. In a fit to get away from his grip, she bit hard on his hands but that hardly had any effect on him.

His face only grimaced as he pushed her away and stared condescendingly.

"I see you're still as disgusting and selfish as you were five years ago, You've probably been jumping from one man to the next" he lashed at her coldly as the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes triggered a calm smile on her lips. This however made him even more disgusted as his face contorted at the reaction.

"I did not expect to see you again, but since you're here, why don't I make it worth your while" he smirked evilly with his intense gaze on her screaming danger.
