Chapter 2 Why will my father give me this hard task

Karie's POV

As I was walking towards the door, I heard someone call my name. "Karie," the voice said, and I turned around quickly.

"Why are you late?" she asked, her eyes looking at me closely.

I didn't want to tell her the truth, so I quickly made up a lie. "I was sick," I said, trying to sound convincing.

"Are you okay now?" she asked, still looking concerned.

"Yes, ma," I answered quickly, wanting to end the conversation.

I quickly left her and walked inside the restaurant. The sounds of plates clinking and voices talking around me made me feel a little better. At least I didn't have to explain myself anymore.

As soon as I walked in, I saw my friend Jenny standing nearby. She saw me and walked over.

"Why did you come late?" she asked, sounding a little annoyed.

"I slept off," I said, shrugging as if it was no big deal.

"You're lucky the boss isn't angry with you," Jenny said, glancing toward the back where the boss was standing.

Just as she said, we saw the boss walking towards us. Both of us quickly rushed to attend to the customers, making sure we didn't get in trouble.

Tyler's POV

I walked slowly into the room where my parents were already sitting. I knew why they had called me in. My dad had been asking me to get married for a while now, but I wasn't ready for that. I wasn't even dating anyone seriously.

"Good morning," I said, trying to sound normal.

"Morning, my son," my dad replied, smiling at me. "How was your night?"

"It was fine," I said quickly, feeling nervous.

I sat down in front of them, waiting for the conversation I knew was coming.

"Tyler, you're not a kid anymore," my dad started. "You're grown now. Your mother and I have been telling you to get married for a while, but you've ignored us. You bring different girls into this house all the time, like they don't mean anything. You need to settle down."

I felt embarrassed. I wasn't a player like he was making me seem. I just hadn't found the right person yet.

"We've decided that you must get married before your next birthday, which is next month," my dad said, his tone is serious.

"What?!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I didn't even have a girlfriend, let alone someone I loved. How could they expect me to get married in a month?

My mind was racing. My dad was serious, and when he said something, he meant it. The pressure was too much.

I stood up, my heart beating fast. I didn't know what to say. Without speaking, I left the room and went back to my own room. I shut the door behind me, feeling completely confused.

How was I supposed to get married when I didn't even know who I was supposed to marry? I had no answers, and the situation felt impossible.
