I held back my tears, and my eyes were red as I questioned him. "You deceived me into a secluded place to give birth to the baby. Then you stole it, lied to me that the baby was dead, and gave the baby to Daisy. Wasn't it enough for you to cheat on me with her behind my back? Why did you have to take away my baby?"
The last sentence was almost spoken with a sob.
Everyone present was drawn to my words and turned towards me.
Jeremy looked at me, and his lips were trembling slightly. "Theresa, please don't do this..."
He tried to comfort me and then apologized to the police officers. "I'm sorry, my wife is grieving the loss of our baby and had a mental problem."
The female officers standing opposite immediately gave him a sympathetic smile and gestured that it didn't matter. Then they whispered among themselves.
"I was wondering why this woman was trying to take someone else's baby openly. It turns out that she lost her own baby. It's really pitiful."
"Luckily, her husband loves her dearly. She's caused such a big scene, but he isn't angry."
Hearing their words, I bit my lower lip hard with a heavy heart. I almost couldn't breathe.
Jeremy stepped forward and helped me up from my seat. He lowered his gaze and said, "Alright. Let's go home. Let's not cause any more trouble here. I was wrong when dealing with the baby. I should have let you see it before the cremation. Try to let it go. Don't be sad. I know you are sad after we lost the baby. If you listen and get better, we can have more babies in the future."
"I don't want any babies in the future. I want my baby now!" I slapped him across the face with all my strength. The female police officers were startled and gasped in sympathy. They quickly walked over.
Two of them hurried to calm me down, while the other pulled Jeremy aside and said, "Her condition seems quite bad. Perhaps you'd better take her to the hospital."
Her voice was low, but I still heard it.
"I don't have a mental problem. I'm telling the truth. You have to believe me. He really gave my baby to another woman." I trembled, and my eyes were red from crying as I tried to explain to the female officers beside me.
But they just looked at me with sympathy and pity.
Jeremy pulled me into his arms and said, "I'm sorry. I'll try to persuade her again."
Then he took me aside and leaned close to my ear. His voice was cold as he said, "If you keep causing trouble like this, I'll have to consider getting you to a psychiatric hospital. Your parents already knew what you did today, and they've asked me to ensure you get proper treatment."
I understood the underlying meaning of his words.
If I continued to cause trouble, I would end up being locked away.
I bit my lip hard, suppressed my anger, and let go of my defenses.
"I'm sorry. I was too sad. I really can't accept that our baby is gone like this. I'm sorry..." I choked on my words, and tears ran down my cheeks.
Hearing my words, Jeremy was instantly relaxed. He said softly, "It's alright. We'll have more babies in the future. l promise."
I forced a smile, which looked more painful than crying.
