Chapter 4

After I guessed that my baby was still alive, it grew fiercely in my heart.

That very day, I quietly left the hospital.

Daisy's social media was updated ten minutes ago and showed her location at a cafe.

When I arrived there, Daisy was leisurely sitting there and playing with her phone.

The stroller was right beside her.

Instinctively, I rushed over to see the baby, but Daisy noticed me before I could do so.

The moment she saw me, she quickly pulled the stroller closer to her.

"What do you want?" she asked warily. She looked a little nervous.

I took a deep breath and tried to keep my voice calm. "I want to see the baby."

She was momentarily stunned. The next moment, she picked up the baby and looked at me with a mocking smile. "It is my baby. Why should I let you see it?" She said with provocation and smugness, "Your baby was born dead, and you're not lucky enough to raise it. Don't think about taking mine."

Daisy's words pierced my heart like a knife.

But as soon as I looked at the baby, I knew it was mine.

My rationality crumbled instantly, and I lunged forward to snatch the baby from her arms.

Unexpectedly, Daisy held the baby tightly and pushed me away forcefully.

I stumbled and nearly fell.

Everyone around us was immediately focused on us.

I steadied myself and glared at Daisy tearfully.

To my surprise, she shouted to the crowd, "This woman is trying to take my baby away. She's crazy! Someone helps me!"

Daisy's voice was sharp and panicked. The crowd was drawn and gathered around us.

In the chaos, several people restrained me, and I became the focus of everyone's attention.

Eventually, the police took me to the station.

In the interview room, I gripped the edge of the table tightly and tried to calm down and explain everything to the police.

The officer briefly understood my situation and made a phone call to someone.

He then asked me to wait there.

Before long, Jeremy arrived.

Seeing me, he didn't get angry. Instead, he looked relieved.

"Theresa, why did you sneak out of the hospital? Come on. Let's go back. Look at the trouble you've caused the police," he said gently. His hand was trembling slightly, and his eyes were full of concern.

I shook off Jeremy's hand, and my eyes were red as I looked at him.

Even now, he was pretending to be concerned about me.

I took a deep breath, and my chest heaved violently.

"She took my baby! Did I do anything wrong to take my baby back?"

Jeremy looked helpless.

"Theresa, please stop saying that. Our baby is gone. Calm down, and let's go home and talk, okay?" he said gently while slowly approaching me. He reached out to touch my hair.

But I slapped his hand away forcefully. "Jeremy! Do you continue to lie to me in front of the police?"
