Chapter 7 A Familiar Face

Chapter 7

(Lysander's POV)

Lysander didn't usually go to the mall this early.

She had planned to sleep in, but her roommate had dragged her out, claiming they needed a break after their last brutal shift.

Now, walking through the bright, air-conditioned halls, she wondered if exhaustion was supposed to feel this normal. The hospital had a way of pulling everything out of her-her time, her energy, and sometimes, it felt like even her emotions.

But she didn't regret it.

This was what she had always wanted, even if it came with long hours and little sleep.

Still, there was something unsettling about today.

She couldn't shake the lingering tension from last night-the hushed voices behind the door, the sharp edge of a conversation that wasn't meant for her ears. She hadn't seen who it was, but she had felt it.

Felt the weight of someone's frustration.

The raw anger in his voice had unsettled her in a way she couldn't quite explain.

Her thoughts were interrupted when she turned the corner and saw him.

Her steps faltered.

Nolan Castille.

She recognized him instantly-the cocky stranger from the mall, the so-called VIP patient at the hospital. The one who had bumped into her, barely apologized, and walked off like he owned the world.

And now, here he was again.

He stood near a bookstore entrance, flipping through a book with an air of effortless nonchalance. As if he didn't have a care in the world. As if last night's frustration hadn't existed.

But Lysander had heard it.

And she knew-he was the one in that room.

A strange mix of curiosity and unease curled in her stomach. He hadn't noticed her yet, and for a brief second, she considered walking away.

But then, as if sensing her gaze, Nolan looked up.

His eyes landed on hers, sharp and assessing.

Lysander held her breath. Did he recognize her?

There was a flicker of something in his expression-confusion, maybe. And then, the slightest smirk.

He knew.

But he didn't know everything.

Not that she had overheard him. Not that she had seen past the arrogance he wore like a shield.

Her fingers tightened around the book she hadn't realized she was holding.

She had a choice: walk away or acknowledge him.

And for reasons she didn't fully understand...

She didn't walk away.
