Chapter 2 The unexpected reunion

Chapter 2

Lysander barely remembered the arrogant guy from the mall by the time her next shift started. The hospital had a way of forcing reality back into focus. Patients in pain, families waiting for answers, the constant rush of nurses and doctors trying to keep everything under control.

She checked the chart in her hand, scanning the next patient's details. VIP ward. Of course. The rich always got special treatment.

She pushed open the door-

And nearly dropped her chart.

Him.

The arrogant guy from the mall was sprawled out on the hospital bed, looking way too comfortable for someone in a hospital gown. His dark hair was tousled like he hadn't bothered to fix it, and he had the same lazy smirk she remembered.

"Well, well," Nolan drawled, propping himself up on one elbow. "Fate works fast."

Lysander inhaled slowly, gripping the chart tighter. Not this. Not him.

"You?" she said flatly.

"Me," he agreed, clearly enjoying this way too much. "Looks like we were meant to meet again, Nurse..." He flicked his gaze down to her name tag. "Lysander. Cool name, by the way."

She ignored that. "What are you doing here?"

"Recovering," he said dramatically, placing a hand over his heart like he was in mortal agony. "Didn't they tell you? I had a terrible accident."

Lysander skimmed the chart. Nolan Castille. "Mild concussion and a sprained wrist," she read. "Tragic."

He grinned. "You should see the other guy."

She didn't ask. She didn't care. But the last name Castille made her pause. As in the Castille family. One of the hospital's biggest investors.

Great. Just great.

Lysander exhaled, shifting into professional mode. "Do you need anything?"

Nolan tilted his head, considering. "Now that you mention it, I could use some entertainment. Know any good jokes?"

She stared at him. "Your entire personality is a joke."

His laugh was unfairly attractive. "Damn. You're going to be fun."

Lysander wanted to groan. This was going to be a long shift.
