I never really thought about dating apps and websites until Fred came up with the concept. But because my father threatened to fire me from my position as CEO, I think I'm justified.
"Have you called her yet?" My query is answered by Fred, who is seated behind me on the aircraft.
Looking at the other people seated there made me feel nauseous. I had to take an ordinary trip since my dad had seized my private jet.
This is something I haven't done before in my entire life. I should have reserved a first-class ticket because they weren't available until two days later, and I don't have two days.
I was rushing horribly. Everything has been awful for the last several days. "Sir, this jet has no reception."I'll phone her as soon as we touch down.
Fred answered. I exhaled an exasperated breath. It's all so bad. I just stared out the window next to me and watched the fluffy white clouds.
Soon later, the jet touches down at our destination. Fred follows me as my bodyguards unload my little possessions as I speed through the airport.
With his phone pressed to his ear, Fred said, "I'm calling her now, sir." All I could hear was the ringing of a mobile phone while I waited for a response from the other end.
I'm starting to lose patience right now. My father gave me till tomorrow to locate a wife, so you can't hold it against me. Isn't my predicament a sad one?
"Give me that!" When I take the phone away from Fred, he flinches. I pressed the phone to my ear and punched in the number again. Fred will be dealt with later.
On the first ring, it was selected. "Where are you?" I didn't wait to renew pleasantries before asking her a question. "Hey, I'm here. "David Gages?" Oh, huh? The lady I was marrying did not have this voice.
Furthermore, why does her voice seem jittery? "Hello, what's going on?" I ask. This person's frequent stuttering is starting to irritate me. "Well, Rachel instructed me to inform you that...um...she-"
What on earth did she say? I yelled angrily, and whomever was on the other end of the telephone gulped. The individual stumbled, I didn't have time for all that stuttering, I'm about to lose my position as a CEO if I didn't get married. This is a position I have worked so hard to get and retain, so it won't be taken away from me because I didn't have a wife.
"She–she said she's ba–backing...out..." I abruptly stopped moving because I was so shocked by what I had just heard. Was she kidding? All i have to go through in that plane and getting here, I'm hearing a different story. "What?" I asked. "That's what she said,
Sir –" I thrust my words into her before she could finish. "What? Is she retreating, are you saying?
At this point I know that my loud voice may wake up the dead, but I don't care if someone goes by and asks what I'm doing.
"So, by tomorrow, where do you want me to find a wife? Tell me. A wife is not something you go to the market or store to purchase. I'm sure I could smell the lady I was speaking to was scared as I yelled again.
"I–I'm sorry...sir b–but that's all I can...say–" was her last statement before she suddenly hung up. "What the–" she even had the guts to hang up the phone on me after all the arrangements that were made. I look at the phone's screen in disbelief, as if I'm still processing what occurred.
I kept shooting confused glances at Fred. He just looked back at me, not knowing what to say.
I can't believe this is happening, so I run my hand through my black hair, attempting to come up with a way to get a wife before tomorrow.
"Excuse me, sir!" Suddenly, a woman's voice came from behind me. I had already turned around before I realized I shouldn't have, so who would be calling me so rudely?
I couldn't help but notice how a young woman's hips swung excessively as she came into view. I made myself gaze up at her, beyond that. But then I turn to face Fred. "Who's she?" The lady answered, rather than asking him.
"I'm the lady interested in getting married to you," she blurts out, and I freeze in place again.
Okay, I am starting to get too many shocking revelations today. "Rachael?" I thought my online fiancé was lying, so I inquired. But judging by her puzzled eyebrows, she wasn't.
"No, I. My name is Ava, Ava -" I don't have time to introduce myself. "Why do you want to get married to me?" I questioned her coldly. Her chest swells as she says, "Be–because...I want to get revenge on my ex". You mean you're confident? That's nice. Unconsciously, my thin lips formed a little grin.
"I see, can we get to it now?" I quickly waved my hand to Fred and asked her, and he quickly understood and began making calls to prepare for the wedding. "What, like now?"
She asked, obviously surprised. "Yeah," I say with a nod. "What about my kids?" she asks, as I lift my head and wrinkle my brows. Does she have kids? She didn't seem like a woman with kids, she was really beautiful even if I won't admit it to myself.
There are a lot of odd ladies in the world nowadays. "Kids?" She gestures to two similar kids and says, "Yes, Aria, Archie, come over here." They both walked over to us. She put her arms over their shoulders and smiled at me.
So far, her introduction of "this is Aria and Archie, their five" has disgusted me.
Is it really my destiny to marry a mother? Can my day be any worse? "Do... do we have a deal?" I'm startled out of my self-pitying trance by her question.
I exhaled deeply, I didn't have a choice. If I refuse to take this opportunity now, I might lose my position as the CEO. nodded my head, and then held out my hand for a handshake. "Sure, deal," I replied.
